Iran Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal Delivered By Iraq PM — NYT by God1000(op): 9:54am On Jul 24
Tehran rejected proposal from Washington that was delivered by Iraqi PM Ali al-Zaidi —who recently met US President Trump at the White House — because it failed to resolve the issue of control over Strait of Hormuz, NY Times reports.

Iran has rejected a US ceasefire proposal delivered by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, the New York Times reported, as fighting between the two countries continued for nearly two weeks.

Citing Iranian and Iraqi officials familiar with the matter, the newspaper said al-Zaidi carried the proposal during a visit to Tehran after recently meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

The report said details of the proposal were unclear, but Iranian officials described it as the only proposal currently offered.

Tehran rejected it, they reportedly said, because it did not resolve the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Al-Zaidi’s trip was his first official visit to Iran since taking office in May. He traveled with a high-level ministerial delegation and met with President Masoud Pezeshkian as the two sides discussed bilateral ties, regional developments and efforts to strengthen security and stability.

Iranian officials said the talks also covered the implementation of previously signed agreements, with both governments calling for broader cooperation in trade, energy, transportation and regional affairs.

According to Iranian media, al-Zaidi also met with Iran’s chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Wider Red Sea war

The report said Iranian officials were preparing for the possibility of a wider conflict if Trump follows through on threats to attack Tehran and additional critical infrastructure.

The newspaper said two Iranian officials told it that such attacks would prompt Tehran to expand the war regionally, including by targeting Tel Aviv and asking Yemen’s Houthi group to close the Bab al Mandab Strait.

US forces launched strikes against Iranian targets for the 13th consecutive night early Friday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced.

On Wednesday, Iranian authorities put the death toll from the ongoing US strikes at 53, with 592 others wounded.

Regional tensions have escalated over the past two weeks after Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire outlined in last month’s US-Iran memorandum of understanding was no longer in effect.

Since then, the US and Iran have exchanged strikes, with Washington targeting sites inside Iran while Tehran says it has attacked US military facilities and equipment across several countries in the region.

The confrontation has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, threatened global energy supplies and prompted intermittent airspace closures and growing warnings of attacks on US facilities and interests beyond the Middle East.

Then let Tel Aviv attack Iran and let's see how that goes too. Funny how you talk like Iran just woke up one day and attacked someone first. History didn't start on the day you began paying attention.
Re: Iran Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal Delivered By Iraq PM — NYT by Razzness(m):
Trump is in a very tight spot. He wants this war to end badly but doesn't seem to have many options.

His first option is to escalate further; bring down the full force of the US military on Iran, destroy Tehran and as much infrastructure as they can. But this is his most dangerous option because this war does not have popular support in the US, thousands of civilians will die, and it still does not guarantee Iran will capitulate. Perhaps even more worrying for him is that Iran has the capacity to wreak havoc in Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha, Manama, Kuwait City and Muscat. These are very important allies of the US; they just can't afford to lose.

His second option is to send in ground troops to capture one or two islands. The problem is not capturing the Island but keeping it. The Iranians will happily let the troops land on the Island and start firing everything they have on them, meaning the US will suffer more casualties and it still doesn't guarantee the Iranians will capitulate.

His third option is to do a ceasefire. This will most likely be more humiliating for him than the MOU, because Iran will obviously not give up the Strait of Hormuz, and they will use delay tactics to kick the nuclear issue down the road.

His fourth option is to maintain the status quo. Sustained but restrained bombing of military targets and a naval blockade, hoping it will force Iran to come to the table. However, oil prices are now high and above; with the Houthis blockading the Bab-al-Mandab Strait, prices will likely continue to go up. So, this is not a sustainable strategy.

These are all bitter pills to swallow and Trump must swallow one.

But the uninformed Nigerian Zionists here are claiming Iran is desperate for ceasefire and negotiations.

Re: Iran Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal Delivered By Iraq PM — NYT by Axis313(m): 11:27am On Jul 24
Iran have closed the Strait of Hormuz,by the time the Houthis block the Bab-al-Mandeb Strait, the crude oil price will be hitting the roof like never before.
Strait of Hormuz and Bab el Mandeb Strait caters for about 50% of the global oil needs.
If those two are closed, the price of crude oil will surely skyrocket.

If only he stood his ground and did not let Benjamin Netanyahu persuade him into war, he would have focused on many better things right now than this unnecessary conflict. Nice analysis

Very funny, Nigerian Iranians.

America, which actually produces 50% of the weapons of war on the earth.
The only thing with America is that they are taking the IRGC to be a normal army.
They don't know that the IRGC is a terrorist group, and chaos is what they sell to their people as victory.

The only way to deal with Iran is to seek the chaos that they seek.
Dazz all.

Watching al jazeera few minutes ago, they were asking their reporter in Tehran why Iran is still fighting this War, when America has been wrecking heavy havoc on them on ever side. Looks like the mullahs will prefer their country to be turned into another Gaza than raise white flag for a country they see as an infidel nation.

Don't reliad on nairaland alone for your infor. Kindly go to other sources to get yourself updated about Iranian war with US.

Though, US is pounding Iran and Iran is retaliating in her own little way. Presently, US is seeking for another 10 days cease fire through Iraqian leaders which Iran has turn down.

This case is a case of beating a child and not allowing you go anywhere. You can't leave and you can't beg him as well.

The fifth option is bring in the Nemesis of Terrorism (Isreal) into the war. Isreal will bomb anything and everything that looks like terrorism.

The only reason Isreal is not yet involved is because of how Trump treated and excluded them during négociations. Trump forgot that without Isreal, US military can't fly over Iran. Isreal will take advantage of a dieing Iran and destroy the place.

.
US will be beating you and asking for ceasefire.

It's all for tactical and history purposes.

To those jubilations that US asking for ceasefire means Iran is winning, history deals with facts. And 30 years from now, those reading history will see the many attempts at peace by the US (even if it's fake), and the many rejections for peace by Iran.

Evidence go plenty. Citations na water. Plenty of materials for historians.

This will effectively make Iran the bad guy in the eyes of history, regardless of whatever today's sentiments are.
