Pep Guardiola has rejected an offer from the Italian Football Federation to coach the national team 🇮🇹

I love Pirlo to the bone but I am not sure this is the rght direction for the Azzurris.
They need a trusted hand and not experiments.

The last time Italia played at the world cup was 2014 and the last time they made it to the knockout stage was 2006 when they won. In 20 years, powerhouse Italy has never played world cup knockout football.

I feel for Italian soccer though, they face a cultural challenge. The traditional cattenacio (bolt the door) that Itaky excelled in is considered outdated. Their coaches and players are forced to play modern soccer, which does not really align with their philosophy

Looks like Chuck Norris/John wick or like a villain from a movie set.

It's a different ballgame coaching national teams from club football. In club football you have access to and have control over a lot of things.


National team is more like blending different patches together to achieve results.

I think that's primarily reason most world class club coaches would turn down an opportunity to coach a national team even if they won't admit it.
