Who’ll Visit Boko Haram, Bandits Like GEJ, Osinbajo Visited Militants – Gumi by Kuginzi(op): 9:31pm On Jul 25
Controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has questioned why no government official has visited Boko Haram terrorists and bandits to negotiate an end to their violence, the way past leaders engaged Niger Delta militants.

He made the comparison in a Facebook post on Saturday, recalling how former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo both visited militants in the creeks to broker peace.

He made the comparison in a Facebook post on Saturday, recalling how former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo both visited militants in the creeks to broker peace.

Gumi noted that both leaders had, at different times, gone into the creeks to meet militants and had returned with programmes designed to end the militancy in the region.

“The former President Jonathan visited delta militants in the creeks, so also the former vice president Osinbajo. They all came up with a program to tame the militants,” he wrote.

The cleric then asked who would extend similar engagement to Boko Haram and bandits terrorising parts of northern Nigeria, without facing public backlash.

“Who is going to visit BH and Bandits to tame them without fools castigating them?” he asked.

Gumi has for years positioned himself as an advocate for dialogue with armed groups in the North-West and North-East, repeatedly visiting bandit camps in Zamfara and other states to hear their grievances.

He has consistently argued that negotiation, rather than military force, worked to end militancy in the Niger Delta and should be replicated in the North.

The cleric’s interventions have drawn both support and criticism, with some Nigerians accusing him of legitimising armed groups responsible for kidnapping, killings and cattle rustling, while others credit his engagements with securing the release of kidnap victims.

The retired soldier has repeatedly denied backing terrorism, insisting his advocacy is aimed solely at ending the bloodshed through dialogue and rehabilitation.

The Niger Delta amnesty programme, launched in 2009 under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and sustained by Jonathan, saw thousands of militants disarmed in exchange for training, stipends and reintegration support, significantly reducing attacks on oil infrastructure in the region.

Jonathan first waded into the Niger Delta crisis in 2007 as vice-president, entering the creeks without an armed detail to meet ex-militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, in Warri, Delta State.

He later said the meeting laid the groundwork for the amnesty programme granted to militants, which remains in place today.

Osinbajo similarly toured Niger Delta communities as acting president in 2017, engaging militants and traditional leaders directly.

He justified the outreach by arguing that those in the creeks were citizens with genuine grievances, not merely security threats.

Nobody because they are not reasonable.....and besides you can't say because they grant amnesty to militants whose lands where ravage by oil exploration they should grant amnesty to idiots who don't have leaders and no cogent reason for their actions.
Ogbeni Bandits sympathetic

Boko Haram and Bandits have no genuine reasons to carry arms
Re: Who’ll Visit Boko Haram, Bandits Like GEJ, Osinbajo Visited Militants – Gumi by flokii: 9:51pm On Jul 25
Nobody will visit them because it's not stated anywhere in the constitution of Nigeria that Government Officials should visit or negotiate with terrorists.
If Gumi and his croonies in the North think a Yoruba man will acknowledge or embrace terrorism, they better think twice.. anything short of peace is a NO NO.

We South Westerners that embraced education are not fools, we understand the immemse power knowledge through education holds for nation building.

In the end of it all, the whole world will lay it bare that Northerners allowed the radicals among them destroy the fate and fortunes of their generations unborn. Nobody will point accusing fingers at Yoruba.

When the terrorists were visited,it got worse.
Why would a sane govt want to visit demonic terrorists?
Some state govts negotiated with them,it got worse.
Even the ones that said they repented have been reported to be as dangerous as the ones in the forests because we have seen how they beheaded our soldiers.

Don't mind the Northern islamic radicals with their hidden agenda to turn Nigeria to an islamic republic. Gumi must be day dreaming of becoming the Ayatollah kind of leader in Nigeria.. mu.mu man.

Gumi is talking rubbish because Jonathan never went to creeks to see any militants.
Secondly, the ideology of Boko Haram and bandits is not even the same. What is Boko Haram fighting for? Gumi is a very stupid man and a terrorist himself.

Terrorist! Madman!

My own question is; "Why has Gumi not been arrested and prosecuted like his fellow bandits and terrorists?"

Militants have legitimate reasons. What reasons do the bandits have to hold the nation to ransom?
Re: Who’ll Visit Boko Haram, Bandits Like GEJ, Osinbajo Visited Militants – Gumi by franchasng: 10:22pm On Jul 25
Visit which Boko Haram?

Have they even said anything about why they took up arms if not for Islamic Jihad?

If they took up arms because they want Islamic Sharia in Northern Nigeria, they already have it so let them lay down their arms.

Unfortunately they took up arms as part of Jihad war and to fulfill uthman dan fodio's mandate.

So maybe you Mr Gumi should ask Boko Haram, ISWAP, Lakurawa, etc the reason they took up arms against the Nigerian state and what exactly they want in order to lay down their arms

Re: Who’ll Visit Boko Haram, Bandits Like GEJ, Osinbajo Visited Militants – Gumi by Hezmatosky210: 10:22pm On Jul 25
But on the contrary, militants were aggitating for resettlement while boko haram are aggitating for settlement. Two different things. Secondly, the then president was from the region where militants were operating, making it more easier. Thirdly, we have seen a lot of northerners in the past going to talk to the aggrieved boko members, of which you were one, but not only you, just that I don't want to mention names.
Let me tell you sir. Tinubu can go there, Akpabio can also go, even the COAS, Minister of Defence can go too and nothing will happen. No one is afraid of them sad

If we are to be honest with ourselves, there are many like this Gumi in the North who use religion as cover to keep promoting terrorism and advocate for terrorists.

Until the Nigerian State sends a strong message by placing capital punishment as penalty for terrorism, instead of rehabilitation of repentant terrorists, we won't come out of this mess we are in.

Niger Delta militants had justifiable cause and were open to reason. They didn't go around killing people and sacking communities.

Gumi is evil! You can't compare Boko Haram and rampaging Fulani bandits to Niger Delta militants.

...as cause of insecurity, but quiet as a strong advocate of ISWAP and Boko Haram spews constant Rubbish?.

Anyway...GOD will keep blessing those that go the extra length to secure their region. Not content creators like Sunday Igboho, the content creator.

The amnesty programme for Militants in the Niger Delta set a bad precedence in Nigeria..you see the insecurity everywhere today is because some people in the North with backing of their political class think the national cake shared to Militants in the Niger Delta should be shared to their people as well.. so they started to create armed groups to be terrorizing their communities until when the amnesty will be extended to them too.

You can see the stupid mindset we have in this country.. if all the 350+ ethnic groups start fighting for amnesty, what else will remain to fix the country. We'll keep borrowing and taking loans to fund amnesty programmes for terrorists. Is that how a sane society should run?
