It's not too much. It's better than someone frolicking in a house for 90 days please. If rewarding a spelling champion seems excessive, perhaps we have simply become accustomed to overpaying for people whose greatest achievement is surviving a reality TV eviction.
Well said

Abi ooo, everybody must become a researcher.

You will be a happy man, if you learn how to respect opinion of others, everyone cannot go to school or Excel in educational activities, besides, nation is not build only in academic way, but in all ramifications.

Those same people you say are frolicking in a house for 90 days pull in an average of 12billion naira profit for the organizers out of which, they are given a paltry 100m or so…. So there is NO basis for analysis

Learn to evaluate your examples properly.
You, my friend have missed the point. You are talking about profit, I was talking about what society chooses to celebrate. Those are two completely different things.

Rewarding a spelling champion is about encouraging academic excellence, not turning a profit. If BBNaija makes ₦12 billion, then the prize money is a commercial decision.

The fact that both prizes are paid in money doesn't mean they are rewarding the same thing.
One is paying for commercial success while the other is recognising intellectual achievement. Same currency, different values.

My friend, the point was about what we choose to reward as a society, not whether everyone should excel academically. You have managed to argue against a point that wasn't made undecided

Yes na just like when Dapo Abiodun was sent to prison for credit card fraud and when Gbaja was banned from law practice in the US for fraudulent practices, was it celebrated?

But they were rewarded by your people with political post when they came back home.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

He didn't give the boy becoz he won.. that's clearly a publicity stunt,
Yes the boy deserves accolades but others that didn't participate, others that don't compete
.
Putting Delta state on the radar once again good 👍🏻
But government not follow.

On the contrary sir, I think it is you that have missed the point and muddle up things. So, let me put things in proper perspective so you understand my angle.

Do I have any issue against the reward being given to the winners of the spelling bee? None whatsoever. It is not just a personal academic feat but an achievement that brings both HONOR, RECOGNITION and maybe, FINANCIAL REWARD TO THE STATE. It is an achievement that put schools in the said state in positive limelight. Such feat should not only be rewarded financially, but given all the celebration the state deem necessary.

I have no issue whatsoever with that. It is a step in the right direction.

My point however is simple; there is no basis for comparison with those who appear or feature in reality shows and are rewarded handsomely. It is a different industry entirely and the players in such show brings value which is quantifiable in billions to their industry. We should stop comparing and trying to make it seem, those who do well in academic should be rewarded as much as those in the entertainment industry (especially when such academic feats are PERSONAL FEATS -like first class or BGS)….

The comparison is unnecessary, unhealthy and unreasonable

Where did the governor get the money from?
Although it seems right, is it really?

If it's his personal money, cool
If it's from taxpayers money, is there a budget for such?
