Nigeria’s Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has criticised Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, over his position on Sharia and governance.

In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, Gumi described Traoré as too young and inexperienced.

He further said that the Burkina Faso’s leader is very naive to fully understand the complexities surrounding religion, society and global politics.

According to him, Traoré’s approach could create opportunities for extremist groups to exploit public sentiment and attract more supporters.

He warned that leadership decisions require a deeper understanding of social and geopolitical realities.

“Captain Ibrahim Traoré (born 14 March 1988), with his anti-Shariah stance, at the age of 38, with nothing but military training on his resume, is too naive to understand even the complicity of the society he is ruling under the gun, let alone the dynamics of contemporary geopolitics.

“He has given the extremists the weapon they need to conscript more foot soldiers against his secular regime,” Gumi said.

People like Gumi can only live in a country like Nigeria where the government are too weak to take some bold steps.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré made a very valid point which I have been thinking about due to the way the people that went to Saudi Arabia behaves when they come back.

Many of them are the major problems we are having in Islam today in Nigeria, they will never do any dawah aside from attacking the efforts of past leaders in Islam.

They cannot differentiate between pure Islam and Arab cultures. They tried to force the Arab cultures on everyone and if you dare resist them, you will tagged Kafir and also sort of names.

Just so you know, the government of Saudi Arabia has deported Gumi twice, for terrorism.

He was arrested in 2011 and jailed. It was the visionless Nigerian government under Yar'adua who begged for his release.

He was arrested and deported again last year by the same Saudi when he went for Hajj.
