Nigerian Storms MTN Office After ₦45,000 "Unlimited" Router Data Finishes in Just 4 Days

A Nigerian man has gone viral after sharing a video of himself confronting staff inside an MTN "Y'ello" office over what he described as the shocking exhaustion of his ₦45,000 router data plan in just four days.

In the viral clip, the visibly frustrated customer questioned how a package he said was presented to him as "unlimited" could be completely used up within such a short period.

> "Where do you want me to get ₦45,000 to recharge again? It is becoming too much despite you telling me it's unlimited. How can ₦45,000 finish in just four days?" he asked.

The man repeatedly demanded an explanation from the MTN staff, insisting they check their system and show him exactly where and how his ₦45,000 subscription had been used within only four days.

A member of staff was seen struggling to explain the situation as the visibly angry customer continued pressing for answers. He questioned how a supposedly unlimited plan could expire so quickly and urged the staff to verify the usage records on their system.

"We are Nigerians; we shouldn't be doing this to ourselves," he said, expressing his frustration during the exchange.

According to the man, he visited the MTN office to demand answers after discovering that the data on his router had been exhausted far sooner than he expected.

The video has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences with MTN broadband and 5G data plans. While some users claimed their data appeared to deplete unusually fast, others advised customers to carefully read the terms and fair usage policies attached to broadband packages before subscribing.

Some commenters also suggested that multiple connected devices, automatic software updates, cloud backups, high-definition streaming, or background app activity could contribute to rapid data consumption, while others insisted they had experienced unexplained data depletion.

MTN has not publicly responded to the specific viral video at the time of writing.

The incident has reignited conversations online about data transparency, fair usage policies, and whether customers are given enough information about the conditions attached to broadband plans.

Na Fibre X ni? If it's Fibre X no problem. Na unlimited. Since I connected to it, it's been so amazing. If it another broadband of MTN then OYO remain his case.

Hacking WiFi is surprisingly easy. Last I investigated. There is an app that first identifies your WiFi and connected devices especially if you leave the WiFi visible. It then starts broadcasting gibberish to block any device already connected. Your legit device will disconnect and try to reconnect. It will then keep your router busy, and start posing as your router. Your previously connected device will end up giving it the password while trying to reconnect. Boom, it goes off, then use the password to connect to your WiFi router, further it adjusts router settings and will not appear on your list of connected devices.

If your router data is finishing fast, disable wireless connection to your TV . Go and buy a long ethernet cable or make one.

These companies are milking Nigerians dry yet our so call regulators don't care . Even if you report, they don't care. It will look as if you are just wasting your time.

Call them on phone or email them them . It all amount to nothing. No reply no action just I don't care attitude

Depends na, maybe he was watching Obi. That's data zapping, brain zapping and destiny zapping activity.
But on a serious note, the answer given by those guys was quite unserious and unprofessional. They should be able to explain to him how his "unlimited" data became limited instead of the zobo about fair use policy.
Upgrade your masts and installations, and improve bandwidth before advertising unlimited, when you know that you'll blackmail customer with fair access to bandwidth.

Hmm. This goes beyond money. Its a security risk. They are hiding behind your ISP to commit fraud.

Just like someone using your sim to make calls and scam people.

You never jam Fair Use Policy and unregulated family members

with the miracle of streaming videos you can blow through 10gb in an afternoon

my last born's youtube is blocked for this reason

i actually installed an app called glasswire on all the family computers so i could periodically confirm who was blowing through data

My MTN data connection hardly connects these days. Imagine two days ago, I was in the middle of a P2P trade, and my data stopped connecting. It was so damn frustrating!

this is actually why i use my own router rather than that provided by the telcos

with your own router you can manage access to your network , identify strangers and block anyone in the family who continues to abuse data or misbehaves

Hacking WiFi is very very easy. No need for sim or something complicated. Just one app from the dark Web. Read my addition to the post and you will understand. The security protocol is faulty. I believe it has been upgraded but only very recent devices will be running the new protocol.

I thought I am the only one that noticed such about some yahoo guys. They're rich but still want to borrow my charger and cord most times. Always telling you they forgot to buy.
And when I noticed it's sometimes for the usel*ss OS they brought to our hotel, I just stop giving them.
Re: Man Storms MTN Office After ₦45k Router Data Finishes In 4 Days (photo/video) by themanderon: 3:07pm On Jul 29
It's always MTN and Airtel that does this. I use both sims and I have always considered their data volumes to be a bit dodgy. It's only glo that gives the right volume but is just too expensive for my liking.

How can you say something is unlimited and still put in some fair usage policy? Isn't it a fraud? Some even throttle down the speed when a certain amount of data has been consumed. All these things cannot be in a functional country where the regulators are working.

It's the same thing. My own neighbourhood villain hacks into my MTN, Airtel and Third party Chinese router. As long as its using the classic security protocol, it will be hacked in minutes. Only latest phones (like 2025) etc run the newer more secure communication protocol. And yes telcos should upgrade their routers but they will be citing backward compatibility and support for legacy devices.
