Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Works has suspended the rehabilitation of a section of the Kara Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The repair work was previously scheduled to start Tuesday 28 July 2026 and last for a fortnight.

The suspension was announced on 28 July 2026 by the Acting Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State Engineer R. Adeleye, who also said a new date for the repairs will be communicated later.

“I am very sorry to announce at this 11th hour that we have put on hold the proposed Kara Bridge expansion joints repair scheduled to commence this morning 28 July 2026, on directives from above due to some very crucial reasons.

“A rescheduled date shall be announced in due course,” Adeleye said.

The previously planned rehabilitation would have temporarily reduced the 4-lane carriageway to only 2 lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch, in order to create a safe work zone for the construction company.
