I have noticed this trend in many Nigerian universities, and it is gradually becoming a norm. I wonder what the purpose of this uniform madness is. Very soon, MSc and PhD students would be required to wear uniforms. Uniform should be for students in specific departments or faculties, and it is even suppose to be for specific days when practical or field work is to be done. Now, every department in most Nigerian universities wear uniforms everyday. The photos below are from one particular university in Nigeria.

Are these public universities? When did all this nonsense start in Nigerian universities? During my time only law students wore uniforms. I wouldn't even even call it uniform, it was a specific dress code |

This is an eye 👁 sore 😫. Just because someone wants to cash out from uniform billing. |

![]() OP note that universities don't impose uniforms on students rather it's the students who decided to impose uniforms on themselves. These varies per department, perhaps to make them (the students of particular departments) look identifiable and unique among other students of the same institution. |

But isn't it better then wearing crop top and mini shirt to school. I stop going to a church when a lady comes in with mini skirt even ushers or security don't stop her. |

I doubt it's a nationwide phenomenon. It should be few unis (or even few depts). Between, the pictures posted by op looks like a single university (or two). The structures are identical, so there should be no basis for generalization. |

Hope it's voluntary by their department. May be they are training them to be workers. Dress code is cool but they have to be treated like adults. This is not secondary school. Soon they would flogging them for not wearing socks. 🧦👔 |

These types of universities the lecturers would act like demigods. |

These are probably final year students writing their final exams. No uniform would include polo or T-shirts... I can't seen a public university's school management endorsing this... |

Most universities nowadays are glorified secondary schools |

This shouldn't be a problem since you can wear your everyday clothes to school. Apart from using it uniformly you can as well use it anywhere. I sees it as one going market to buy wear. |

Rapmoney:What do you expect in mushroom schools, now called ''universities''? Just look at those classrooms in the picture and tell me they befit a proper university so called? |

Ridiculous. These are meant to be adults. They are meant to be able to think outside the box, be independent-minded, mavericks, trailblazers. Now, you have cookiecutter, clones, subservient graduates . |

UkoAnnang:Where have you ever seen students imposing uniforms on themselves asides jersey day during their final exams? Una sha sabi talk nonsense. |
| Re: The Annoying Trend Of Uniforms In Nigerian Universities (photos) by JASONjnr(m): 11:58am On Jul 30 |
This is a very serious issue.... But since the lecturers don't know what to do, they now push students to put on uniforms per department. |

I believe it's for identity and to curb the menace of indecent dressing. Everyone puting on uniforms in the university will not be a bad idea. Our gallant soldiers and police men are elders and yet they put on uniforms on duty. ![]() |

This is per the course for a country where people fear any semblance of originality, original thought, original behaviour, original actions etc etc |

Rapmoney:I don't think it exists in universities. Except for law, nursing, and few professional courses students which is understandable. This is peculiar to polytechnics. I don't know the reason for them doing it. But don't think it's a university thing. |
| Re: The Annoying Trend Of Uniforms In Nigerian Universities (photos) by Rapmoney(op): 12:03pm On Jul 30 |

Nobellight77:Is Nigeria the only country where students are prone to indecent dressing? Why don't we have this in other countries all over the world? |
