I am sure the hackers are North Korea's Lazarus group. Those guys constantly tries to breach financial institutions all over the World especially in developing Countries. Good to know Zenith bank team was proactive and their Core system remains secured and fully operational. |

Their cybersecurity team needs to be fired immediately. Imagine having your private financial details exposed to the world. Attacks like this are often not random. They are usually well planned. Attackers identify high-value, liquid accounts, take their time, and strike when the moment is right. If people knew how much money banks quietly lose every year just to hide their vulnerabilities and prevent public panic, you'd be shocked. |

Nice one. I hope the script kiddies were not sloppy like the zbeba that breached sterling and release it in google drive. They should put it up on torrent and target more boxes. |

ponlear:Even US government get hacked, nothing is hackproof in the world. But the problem is that most of the experienced Cybersecurity guys with advance experience in SOC operation and ethical hacking have left this Country for greener pasture somewhere else. |

As a precaution, we encourage our customers to remain vigilant against phishing emails, text messages or phone calls, and to never disclose their password, PIN, One-Time Password (OTP), or other security credentials to anyone. |

ponlear:No system is 100% secure. Hackers are actively seeking new ways to gain access to even the most secured system. 100% security is an illusion. |

This is the problem with pseudo-intellectualism. You have no clue what you are talking about. The ignorant ones may be impressed but no one involved in any cybersecurity program at any level will fail to see through your smartly veiled quackry. ponlear: |

ponlear:Nope. You don't fire a proactive security team like. The hit was primary and infos view were bio data. Even the FBI, CIA and Mi5 you all know gets hit often and on. Core issue is identifying an incoming attack and keeping it in check. |

Zenith Bank... 🤣 That bank whose ATM in Abuja dispensed a fake ₦1,000 note. When I reported it, they said it was impossible. How I know? I experienced it firsthand. I travelled from Lagos to Abuja for an interview. That faithful night, the last ₦1,000 left in my account was withdrawn from a Zenith Bank ATM so I wouldn't have to join the long queue the next morning just to withdraw ₦1,000. The next morning, I tried buying something and the seller immediately returned the note, saying it was fake. Imagine if I had been in an irate community. They could have beaten the living daylight out of me over money I withdrew directly from a bank ATM. I went straight to the Zenith Bank branch to complain. The staff I met insisted it was impossible, as if I was making the whole thing up. The story eventually made the front page that year. I closed my account shortly after and never looked back. Very useless bank. Here's a link to the thread that year. https://www.nairaland.com/4038695/fake-1000-naira-note-zenith |

ponlear:Most atimes this is through a phishing mail. A staff must of have ignorantly clicked a phishing mail for this to happen. |

ponlear:I used to know a cybersecurity guy who worked for Access Bank. We had conversations about how much money banks lose yearly to cyber attacks and attempted breaches. It's a lot more than most people imagine. Funny enough, he eventually left Nigeria for greener pastures. That's one challenge we don't talk about enough. Many highly skilled cybersecurity professionals leave because better opportunities and better pay exist elsewhere. I won't be surprised if some attacks are carried out by people who once worked within the industry. Former employees often understand how systems and processes work. Of course, that doesn't mean ex-staff are behind any particular incident. Many attacks also come from organized cybercriminal groups operating from anywhere in the world. Even where I currently work, we occasionally receive phishing emails with subjects like "Salary Increment" and attachments designed to trick staff into opening them. It shows how attackers exploit curiosity and trust. Cybersecurity isn't just about buying expensive software. It's about continuously investing in people, processes, monitoring, and retaining skilled professionals. Once organizations begin to lose experienced talent, they often become easier targets. |

A system where majority are under-paid but it reports trillions in revenue, it is a miracle it is holding up. |

One Israeli cyber security guy once told me that when he creates a website and wants to be sure it's hack-proof to a large extent, he uses Nigerians to test it. Kudos to Zenith bank's ICT team and many of our banking organizations. |
