NDC Edo South Nomination Controversy Deepens as INEC Publication Raises Fresh Questions

Fresh developments surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Edo South Senatorial nomination have sparked renewed debate after documents published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reportedly contained conflicting candidate information.

At the centre of the controversy is Hon. Sunny “BIBI” Aguebor, JP, who emerged as the winner of the NDC Edo South Senatorial Primary Election. According to his campaign, Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the primary election records, obtained through the appropriate legal channels, identify Hon. Sunny Aguebor as the successful candidate from the party’s concluded primary.

However, attention has now shifted to documents reportedly published by INEC on Saturday, 1 August, which allegedly display the passport photograph and personal credentials of Hon. Sunny Aguebor, while one of the nomination forms, EC9, bears the name of another individual, Bridget Epelle Asemota.

If confirmed, the discrepancy raises significant questions that deserve clear and transparent answers.

The issue is no longer about who won the primary. According to the campaign, the Certified True Copies already in its possession establish the declared winner of the election. The concern now is how nomination documents could contain the identity of one individual while carrying the name of another.

Several questions naturally arise.

* How did such a discrepancy occur in an official nomination process?
* Was this merely an administrative error?
* Was there an internal attempt within the party to substitute the duly elected candidate?
* Why would documents reportedly contain Hon. Sunny Aguebor’s photograph, educational qualifications, employment history and party credentials, yet bear another person’s name?
* Who authorised the submission of such documents?

These are questions that only the leadership of the NDC and those responsible for the nomination process can answer.

The development has also fuelled public speculation over whether powerful interests within the party attempted to alter the outcome of the primary after the election had been concluded. Some political observers have questioned whether there was an effort to impose a different candidate, while others have revived previous allegations made in the public domain concerning the transparency of the party’s nomination process.

These remain matters of public speculation and should be addressed through facts and official explanations rather than assumptions.

Equally concerning is the implication for Nigeria’s electoral process. Every nomination document submitted to INEC is expected to accurately identify the candidate it represents. Any inconsistency involving the identity of a candidate deserves immediate clarification in the interest of transparency, public confidence and the integrity of the electoral system.

Political analysts say the controversy is unlikely to disappear until the NDC provides a comprehensive explanation of how such an apparent mismatch occurred and whether the documents submitted truly reflected the decision reached by delegates at the primary election.

Despite the controversy, supporters of Hon. Sunny “BIBI” Aguebor remain confident that the documentary record favours their candidate. They point to the Certified True Copies obtained through lawful channels and maintain that the official records of the primary clearly recognise Hon. Sunny Aguebor as the authentic winner of the NDC Edo South Senatorial Primary Election.

As legal and political scrutiny continues, many believe one fact remains central to the dispute:

The outcome of the primary election itself is not what is in question. The real question is how conflicting nomination records came into existence after a winner had already emerged.

For now, attention remains on the NDC leadership and the relevant electoral authorities to provide the clarification that party members, supporters and the Nigerian public deserve.

Sadly, Dickson is running an operation that we can generously call illegal.

INEC need to do something about this party, I know there will be reluctance because Peter Obí is there and they don't want Obidients to drag them but based on what has happened in Edo south alone, with EJ Agbonayima and now this, the party is a fraudulent money making enterprise.

Look at the people Saint Peter Obi is aligning himself with.

Same thing they are doing in Lagos Governorship election.
NDC is nothing but scam HQ. They are collecting money and declaring losers as winners. That exactly what they did to Noheem in Lagos.
The story is not going away and it's getting bigger unless they declare thr true winner.

The NDC seems to be active only in Kano because Dickson has no real influence over Kwankwaso. In other areas, it appears he leveraged Obi mainly to improve his chances of gaining power.

In states like Delta, Edo, Abuja, and Lagos, they face about a 95% chance of losing the next election, largely due to what many see as the selfish interests of Dickson and Obi. Obi, in this view, appears focused solely on becoming president, even if it comes at the expense of his supporters.

Just like APC. Those who won the primaries were replaced with those who never contest in the primaries

Peter Obi will come up to accuse the government and APC of setting fire in NDC again.

I think it was the woman that was later announced as NDC candidate from Edo south. The party released conflicting publications after the conclusion of party primaries. They initially announced the woman for Egor/ikpoba federal constituency, even though she never bought form for that position.

I wonder how Peter Obi expects to win presidency when many of his true supporters names have been swapped at the primaries up to INEC level.

Ordinary party primary they can't organize

I rather have a cardoso, keyamo, tunji ojo as minister than have mama p, peter akan, serah Ibrahim near the seat of power

the major difference between tinubu n obi is that obi doesn't understand what leadership entails.

He doesn't believe in carrying his protege along n that singular act was what made tinubu win 2023 election despite stiff opposition.

Obi is just like a lone wolf that can be silenced easily, look at how Tinubu carried them fashola n co along since day one n today even if he's not there his men stand gidigba.

Right now Aisha yesufu n co have been totally neutralized n they no longer have a voice, if peter obi is to be dealt with by Dickson tomorrow it will b a very very easy game cos Dickson shows he's smarter than obi.

He stripped obi off his goons so when fight starts obi will b easy to defeat

In Edo they have 100% chance of not just losing but losing their deposit too.

I would have said NDC is dead but they never really lived, save for the 15 minutes of fame when Dickson handed Peter Obí and Kwankwaso their cards.

Sorry guys, I'll be voting APC for senate, house of assembly and Rep because of the performance of Gov Okpevbolo. More so, even if the Candidate of NDC wins, he will eventually decamp to the ruling party like we saw Labour party candidate did in Edo. The labour party senator in Edo south has no known project in Edo south to his name. It's a big shame.

God bless Gov Okpevbolo, he's doing well in road infractures. So I'll be returning the favour as a Benin Man.

Can you believe these NDC clowns 🤡?
They did primary on May 29th, till today they are still arguing on who won and who lost.
The same set of clowns expect INEC to organize, conduct and release national election results on then same day.
They are struggling just to organize common primary and announce results in a month grin

NDC is undeniably the frontrunner for Edo South. A solid, reliable choice.
