TEENAGE TRAGEDY Youth football star, 15, shot dead ‘after being mistaken for another target’ moments after playing in friendly

A YOUNG Brazilian footballer with dreams of going pro has been shot dead ‘by mistake’.

Former Sao Paulo youth star Micael Leandro da Silva was just 15 years old when he was struck by a bullet in Maceio on Saturday.

Police believe the shooting was carried out by rival drug trafficking gangs and that Micael, with no known ties to criminal activity, was hit after being mistaken for another target.

The teenager was rushed to hospital but he died from his injuries.

Several other people were also struck during the attack.

Minutes before the shooting, Micael had been playing in an amateur football tournament.

His dad, Marcos Antonio Leandro, told local media: “My family has been torn apart by two criminals who came and shot my son in the back.

“The match had just finished and he was getting changed, so he had no chance to run.

“I’m devastated. His siblings haven’t stopped crying.

“I brought all my children up with humility, showing them how to be good people. It’s not easy to lose a son who had so many dreams.”

Depends. While I share your RIP, most of the boys playing football in the favellas or indeed in brazil would not make it into the big time like Ronaldinho. Many of them would end up leaving football and getting a real life job, a tiny minority would make it into a football club in Brazil, talkless of a mega european club(and by a football club in Brazil, I don't just mean Flamengo, fluminense, sao paulo, corinthians, santos or botafogo....it also means a club somewhere in the remote western part of Brazil too...so far away that it is basically a rural area).

Even the brazillians that make it to Europe, most of them end up playing in third or fourth or even lower divisions self. Or in some obscure European countries like the Faeroe islands. Being a Brazillian does not guarantee you an automatic pass into the big european clubs. You fight for the right of club membership like everyone else...

Eh, our slums have nothing on the favelas of Brazil.

They even once had to use the army....the brazillian army...to clear out a favella of a violent drug gang. Literal war for several days. As bad as Nigeria is, government has not sent in the army to try to clear out Ajegunle for example.

You might be right. It is most likely due to the abundance of talents.
A Brazilian player once played for FC Ifeanyi Ubah if I am not mistaken. Several of them are in South Africa and other back water leagues the world over.

I however totally disagree that most of them that make it to Europe are playing for third or fourth division teams. I stand to be corrected, at least, all the 20 teams in EPL will have at least a Brazilian. I also believe the same applies to La Liga. There are so many of them in Eastern Europe.

Brazilian favelas are no joke. It's a crime riddled area full of violence blood and death.

Players like Endrick and Vini jr are the best of a very large number of players in brazil that number in the thousands every year.

Only a few make it to the top.Even doing well at youth level does not mean you would make it to the big clubs.
