Onaiyekan Didn't Recognise Tinubu As President In 23:bishop Adegbite by Lithiumite(op): 1:21am On Aug 07

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5q76PzqXgw?si=PpnEyh_BsfjIfCM8

In a recent Interview on TVC Entertainment, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, reflected on the relationship between religious leaders and politics, urging clerics to avoid actions that could further polarize the country.

While discussing reactions to the 2023 presidential election, Adegbite recalled that "In 2023, when BAT was declared the winner, Onaiyekan said, 'He will not recognize the president.'" He argued that although individuals are entitled to their political preferences, the outcome declared by the electoral process should be respected unless overturned by the courts.

According to Adegbite, Nigerians had already voted and a president had been declared, making it important for national institutions and influential figures to recognize the constitutional process while legal challenges were ongoing. He maintained that political disagreements should not undermine confidence in democratic institutions.
The cleric also stated that religious leaders are free to support candidates of their choice but should avoid attacking or discrediting other candidates. Instead, he encouraged them to present the strengths of their preferred candidates and allow citizens to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

Beyond politics, Adegbite spoke on the influence of social media, describing it as a powerful tool that should be used responsibly. He cautioned that careless public statements can spread rapidly online, making it difficult to correct misinformation or heal divisions once they have taken root.

He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to embrace constructive dialogue, pray for those in authority, and ensure that future elections remain peaceful. He added that national unity and development would be better served when political competition is conducted with respect, tolerance, and a commitment to the country's collective progress.

That's why I don't watch this TVC. They are usually very dumb. Look at the banner. Should clerics be involved in political matters? Really?
You had a Pastor Osinbajo as your VP
You had a Deacon Adesina as Special adviser
Even now, you've appointed Pastors as Efcc chairman, FIRS chairman, Ministers, etc
Even the Bishop they are interviewing is a political appointee cheesy
Governors on your party platform are pastors yet a dumb media outfit is asking if clerics should be involved in political matters
TVC don't even rate their zone Bees

Whats wrong with tge question? Its a debate that has been raging forever, your opinion yiu can only adduce to and let us all have a robust discourse rather than condemning anyone's views......the bisghop being interviewed infered same sentiments you are making that you cant separate politics and governance from the church, that even the church is being held together by its own politics.......but its worthy to note that both your views isn't the universal view and there are equally so many averse to your opinion on this matter.

You need not insult or demean any one or contrary opinion .

I have said it several times that Onaiyekan is a confirmed Obidient Bishop. He has never hidden it, he has through his actions been supporting Peter Obi since 2022.

Anyone claiming he is a neutral man of God is just trying to be clever by half

Adagbite is aso rock chaplain. What exactly were you expecting him to say. To say the cardinal was right and possibly lose his job? TVC should have invited a neutral Bishop if they wanted an unbiased opinion.

Just as a lots of redeem pastors and member supported Buhari and Tinubu despite their many moral baggages because of ethno-religio-regional political sentiments. The outcome is still plaguing us all.

What’s wrong is that the so called Bishop Adegbite doesn’t practice what he’s preaching.

If APC can have a number of pastors and religious leaders as politicians, why can’t clerics talk about the political, social and economic situation of the country?

Who has been debating it forever and with who?
Maybe in your WhatsApp group sha because even during military rule and in the 70s we've had clerics from both sides intervene in political matters and discourse and I've never heard anyone question their right to do so.
Sheikh Gumi the father of the present Gumi was a popular voice in political discourse in the north in the 70s. At least we all know Pantami during Buhari’s tenure.
So who has been debating the rights of clerics to express their opinions on public issues? Cardinal Okojie was also vocal against military rule. I didn't see anyone try to stop him then.
But once a cleric speaks against your god their right to contribute to public discourse becomes a subject of debate and as usual their propaganda channel shamelessly and incompetently brings it out to discuss and fill their zone Bees head with trash.
So what's the conclusion of the debate? I guess clerics should stay off politics going forward right? Rubbish

There are countless literature and treatise on why religious leaders shouldn't get into politics,I am surprised you feign ignorance of these just to push your warped anti tinubu narrative........it is a barefaced white lie by you to deny there aren't divergent opinions on this topic.

If a religious leader no matter how highly placed arrogates the privilege to thread the thin line of political opinion then he should be ready to take whatever flaks comes along that line.......if he can criticise he should also take his own without disdain......it is your imaginable right to make your stand and its only fare to recognise those opposed to that stand.....there is nothing you can do to stop the dragging!!
