I don't think being called "APC supporter" is the flex you imagine. Unless you think people should only support the party you support.

But well, you guys are Nigerians so you don't understand democracy not do you understand intellectual honesty.

nairalanda1:
Bad leadership, indeed, which encourages an economy dependent on oil sales, not one dependent on industrial productivity, and increased accountability, and better taxation regimen too.

And the result is the mess we have now.

That is why I called you an APC supporter, because you support the status quo. I dont and I am tired of our leaders, and our lack of willingness to face reality

And for a married man, you are rude and crude. Grow up. Your being married with children does not make you mature. And get off my mentions.

It's because people on this site think that supporting subsidy removal means you support APC...which is strange, because supporting subsidy removal in 2012 meant you supported PDP.

That's why.

I don't need to read your elementary reasoning.

You are older than everyone.

Nigeria is not a planet, the definition is as simple as quantitative so don't school me on the known.

nairalanda1:
You actually do not know what a subsidy is.

IN Nigeria, subsidy is the money paid to cover the difference between the cost of refining a liter of fuel and the cost the government sets at the pump.

In 2012, to keep fuel at N97, government was paying N2 per liter as landing costs of imported fuel were N99 per liter. And N128-131 per liter from the NNPC refineries that were operating at below 91000 BPD from 400000 BPD in 1987, caused by years of subsidy caused losses.

That means that for every liter of fuel sold in our refineries at N97...government was spending N2-35 per liter.

Now if subsidy was kept since that time, and fuel still cost N97 per liter today, the subsidy would have jumped up to about N1200 per liter to keep fuel at N97.

And that means that we would have been spending a large chunk of our debt, if not most of it, on subsidy by now. Our debt would have also been passing the 300 trillon naira mark. And there would have been zero refineries in this country.

Oga, this is the subsidy you like. The cost of subsidy always rises because your government does not control the cost of producing fuel. And when oil prices rise, subsidy costs go up because the cost of production rise.

See the problem.?

If you want subsidy, ask your senator to pass the laws to restore subsidy.

I am sure you think I am a tinubu supporter. In 2012, I supported subsidy removal, because I did my homework, and read , and saw where the issue was. And that is when I knew that the ojota crowd knew nothing about why subsides were bad for Nigeria.

I am even planning to vote for obi next year, and before that I was supporting and voting for smaller parties self.

The problem with consumption subsides is that their cost rises year in and year out because you spend more of your forex on the thing, which leads to the value of naira falling, and because costs rise, which means a bigger hole in the budget, which means more loans and even more loans to fill the hole.

Angola has subsidy. Angola also has a lot of uncompleted projects, including schools and hospitals, because they have had to take monies from those things to pay for the subsidy cost which rises and keeps rising. Angola plans to phase out subsidy soon.

Forget politics. Subsidy is not about tinupoo vs gej, it's bigger than that. Much bigger.

Okay cheesy

But what I have written is true, and you know it. Nigeria cannot afford a subsidy until we are ready to vote out tinubu and his people and vote in a government that would make us prosperous enough to afford a subsidy without going into debt.

Yeah.. it is what subsidy is.

We have had administrations who is abusing government and Tinubu doesn't know what rule and law are, he dominates and subject everything he touches under him. But, his blind followers with Stockholm syndrome are happy with their oppressors who are confidently mortgaging their futures and their children's.

Government officials who took subsidy from commoners and embezzling money to send their own children to countries that make subsidy available for every resident.

Well, where to start.

1. You seem to want a subsidy back

2. You rightly blast the corruption of tinubu regime.

TO respond

1. Subsidy was stopped because Nigeria could not afford it. Since i can remember, most of the funding for our budgets comes from oil, and the loans we take when the oil price is too low to adequately fund the budget.

Countries that can afford subsidy are oil producers with populations that are low enough to make subsidy make financial sense....or they pay hefty taxes for it, and the taxes are high enough to fund subsides, and they are not for everyone.

Infact the rich politicans kids won't be applying for subsides in obodo oyimbo...it's the poor hustling Nigerians that move abroad that would benefit form it the more.

2. Subsidy also wrecked our refineries, because it did not let them make the profits needed to pay for running costs...which led to massive job losses and massive foreign exchange flight, and a worsening of our debt.

I hate our corrupt and evil governments, but I have read enough to know that subsides as practiced in Nigeria are worse for the poor compared to the rich.

Finally, when government was doing subsidy on telephone service, phones were for the rich. IN 2001, subsides for phones went, and the country started paying the actual cost. Today, the poor have phones.

Yes let's save our refineries and wreck the Nigerian.

After all, the Nigerian creature is the most hopeful organism alive. Hopefully, they won't all have gone extinct by the time a litre drops back to 40 naira.

As one Nigerian politician said " You have no other country, keep your hope alive "

Price controls never work for any economy.

No one would sell fuel for 40 naira

So if oil in Nigeria is not cheaper than it is in all other African countries then Nigerians are being "wrecked into extinction" 😅

You think you were smart with your statement?

I see what game you're playing. You do not represent Nigerian interests, you represent the interests of some other African countries who want Nigeria to subsidise their fuel.

You make it seem like I personally want it for selfishness or as if I don't know what I want (if at all I personally want it). Tinubu goofed and he won't admit any mistakes... pride is his trademark

Everything you listed were the old rhetoric and I know the source.

nairalanda1:
USA is the world's leading oil producer and also has some of the most expensive prices for fuel in the world.

Countries that can afford cheap fuel usually have populations far less than Nigeria's and produce far more oil.

Nothing like cheap fuel.in the Nigerian context.
Countries like the USA had policies and actions which caused that problem. They were transitioning away from oil. Any oil producing country that has what I earlier outlined will not have expensive fuel. We must produce to meet our domestic needs. Population is not an excuse. The government is just incompetent and corrupt.

Yeah, tinubu is a bad leader. Fact. But removing subsidy is not one of his bad decisions.

Everything you listed were the old rhetoric and I know the source.

If you think I am defending subsidy removal because I think tinubu is best for Nigeria, or because I am apc supporter, then I am sorry to dissapoint you

My views on subsidy removal were formed in 2011. I did some reading , and understood a lot of things.

But the problem with guys like you is that you think that government should do free giveaway....because you are poor. And you also defend your side when they are in power. You do not want to think of the effects of the economic decisions made, because it is all about chopping money

People like me look at the big picture...which is why I backed GEJ when he tried to remove fuel subsidy. And I blame tinubu for not removing subsides on electricity and consider him a bad president for not taking measures to industrialize the country, and to fight corruption more aggressively.

What annoys me about people like you is that you think that everyone that thinks differently from you is a tinubu supporter. You do not take time to try to understand why they think the way they do. Your weapon is the adhomien and the abuse.

So, good morning, and no matter how much it pains you, subsidy had to go. If you want to abuse me and call me tinubu supproter, go ahead. But then again, I am not dealing with someone who wants to change and grow.

Are you guys deaf ?
In which language must I repeat for the tenth time that all African countries come to buy fuel from our local market when the price is below market value because our borders are porous and traffickers take advantage of this.
In your mind, is Nigeria supposed to be able to subsidise fuel for more than 1 billion people ?

You don't understand the arguments you are advancing, else you would be channelling your frustration to the appropriate authorities. Your role is quite obvious to me: defend and make excuses.

I defend the removal of subsidies, whichever government does it and since 2011, all Nigerian governments have done it because subsidies help other African countries and impoverish Nigerians !

Being in the opposition doesn't mean you have to oppose common sense as well. Your aim seems to be only about grabbing power and replacing corruption which doesn't enter your pocket with corruption which enters your private pocket. That shows you are not a real opposition, You're just an other kleotocrat. A true opposition thinks about how to better the lives of the people and supports what's good for the people ! Subsidy is not good for Nigerians !

Straw man. Has corruption stopped now? Where in my post did I even mention subsidies, whether in support or against? I stated what the government needed to do. Whose job is it to stop corruption or defend the borders? Is that why our refineries controlled by NNPC are not working? I'm not interested in repeating myself. You can continue to make excuses for the government.

Let me make it easy for your double faced speech: are you for subsidy or not ?

You keep dribbling, but there's no football, there's no fence to sit on, either you want subsidies either you don't.

All I see in you is a person trying to manipulate. Your only mission: grabbing power for your pockets. And this is what you want prope to vote for 😅

Translation of your speech: "Vote for me, that will put money in my pockets 👍🏿"
