This separation of apps running independently on their own in iphones, what effect does it have on users?
Asin why do you rally around the iPhone apps restriction so much? What value is the app matter to the general masses?
UrVillageChief:
Bro, tighter permission access isn’t the same as frameworks that implement sandboxes and open access OSes. Your Android apps can’t function in sandbox environment (I.e the one used by the IOs). Go and up your research. We are not saying the same thing. What makes Android to be Android is the fact that it runs on legacy or unrestricted environment while the IOS is a sandbox just like VMs.
Both OSes run on completely different models. On an iPhone, each app has its own container. It doesn’t share the phone root and directories with other installed applications.
Both of you are talking about how Apps access your files (which according to you, are now tighter) while I’m talking about the fact that Apps on Android use shared storage (the reason why I brought up that bucket and straws analogy)
On an IPhone, Apps are not only unable to see what’s on your phone root but are also not sharing compartments as every app runs in its on isolated space. This is another reason why it’s going to be extremely difficult for viral attacks to succeed on the IOS because each help is isolated from the root. It is for this reason that apps on IOS can’t even see what’s on your clipboard.

Lol but thanks for this. Well, the benefits and effects it has on its users is TIGHT SECURITY. No app runs in the background. No app can control what you never asked them to control. No app has the privilege to display over others and no app is allowed to read what’s inside even your ordinary clipboard🤣. If you’re familiar with torrenting using Virtual machines on Windows PCs, you would automatically know the importance of doing things inside isolated environments.
Even when you pick up viruses on these torrent sites, they are never going to get into your main system because both machines are parallel.
Now to iPhones, allowing each app to be restricted only to their own isolated space is the reason why the IOS is about the safest OS today. So the benefit of that to me is that I feel safer. If you were using both OSes, you would notice how easier it is to get malware through links and apps on the Android than the IOS and this explains why even all these loan apps conspicuously avoid the platform.
Away from that, since Apple makes both its Operating system and the hardware to run on it, it’s definitely not unexpected that Apps run more smoothly on the IPhones. Samsung would have been the best if it could just ditch the Android OS and worked on its own OS tailor-made to work with its own hardware just like Apple and Blackberry. Samsung will be the best if it stops releasing unrefined technologies to the public all in the name of na me do am first🤣

Black race and foolishness. Especially Nigerians , they will start giving themselves unnecessary pressure, because of mere phone...
That most them don't even how to use properly. Just to chat , take pictures and show it off as an achievement. 😏😏😏😏

Oga no place i generalised it rather na u dey generalised. U said nobody uses androids phone of 2013, which u don't have statistics to prove. I am just telling you my personal experience with hot 10t, I don't care whether I am the only person. I just saying the phone don withstand all abuses I gave and still standing strong, I can't say that with my s21 ultra
You should take your English classes seriously then my bro because how does hyperbolically saying that nobody uses something again mean not even one single unit still exist?
So if I said “who still uses a redmi note8 in 2026?” You would literally take that to mean that nobody in the whole wide world owns one in 2026?🤣
Yes, I generalized using statistics and that’s why I also had to provide you with that screenshot to back up my claim. So you took my word literally and told me you still had an infinix 10T and I can remember responding with “I still have a redmi note 8 and an MI11 ultra, does this mean that my redmi is among the phones with the longest longevity?” Or didn’t I say that? You wanted to use your exception (the fact that you still own an infinix 10t) to break the rule and I promptly corrected you that exceptions don’t break the rules.
And that led me to ask you to give me stats of those still using iPhones that were produced in 2019 compared to their Android counterparts today, 2026. I can also remember asking you if you could walk into a store to buy yourself an infinix 10T🤣 whereas, the iPhones produced in that same year that very particular phone was dropped are still everywhere on the market. So why this back and forth? Isn’t that enough statistical evidence to tell you that one phone has the longer lifespan and shelf life than the other?
Na me get time because this is just something everybody knows. People still stock up their shops with iPhones made some 5,6-9 years ago, can you try that with Androids without filing for bankruptcy soon? I keep repeating the same thing over and over again but all you could say was “I still own an infinix 10T” and that nobody has the statistics, that I was only making baseless generalizations.
You even claimed I was saying everything out of illusion despite me buttressing my points with stats and even screenshots of other people's and AI’s opinions. Why not counter my claims with statistical fact and not some “but I still have an infinix 10t” because me too, I still have a redmi note 8🤣

GeneralOuki:
The funny thing is that there's not much difference between the hyped up 17 proMax with 15 proMax, I challenge anyone to list 5 significant features between the two phones. The video quality, the camera, performance and screen are almost the same, you hardly notice any much difference. The only noticeable difference between the two phones are the design and battery capacity.

Pixel, Samsung and Xiaomi are far outclassing it in multiple departments and innovation. But Nigerians don't buy quality, they buy names.
The same issue occurs with pixel, Samsung and xiaomi

When you release a new model of a product (car, phone, pc) every other year the improvements or changes between successive models will be minimal.

You see?🤣 Many of you haven’t got past this “iPhones don’t have battery thing” despite not using them.
I was expecting you to mention a recent Promax iphone with terrible battery life but bro ended up mentioning iPhone 14🤣
If you were a phone enthusiast, you would have known why you shouldn’t have mentioned the 14 at all because who told you even the brand new one has good battery?🤣
About your battery health claims, you are able to know about this because Apple is the only maker that shows it to people, others hide them and you even need some terminal commands to see it on the Windows Os.

I want you to do one simple assignment. That your S10plus, can you get me the statistics of the units that are still in used today when compared to its closest competitor, the iPhone 11 promax and which one would people pick if the two are placed side by side for them to pick? I can tell you for free that there are more active 11PM than S10plus despite the former being more expensive than the later.
Androids generally get outdated faster and this is perhaps due to the fact that they churn out too many units and because newer models are always made to be significantly better than their immediate predecessors. A Samsung you bought today would make you see the one you bought 6 months ago to look like some piece of relic.
This is one area where Apple triumphs and this is to the advantage of consumers . An 11PM user doesn’t necessarily have any reason to upgrade to 12PM, 15PM user doesn’t need 16PM. The upcoming 18 series aren’t meant for those who own the 17 series if they aren’t the ignorant types who buy phones to follow trends🤣
You clearly aren't following my point. Of course proMax has a bigger battery capacity, it is what it's meant for, a phone for a professional videographer which is my entire point! If you're not a professional videographer there's no need going for it, if you're buying it just because it has a bigger battery then you're wasting money and under utilising the phones capabilities, and it also firmly puts you inside the apple capitalist cage control. Whenever you finally begin to see things from this perspective you will free yourself from all this manipulations. I mentioned 14 because it's the phone someone close to me is using, and it's funny to see you change mouth and start castigating an iPhone brand just after praising it a while ago. If my S10 is outperforming a relatively New iPhone product , does that not completely shatter your initial claim about iPhone longevity and durability?
My guy I've used iPhones, I probably started using iPhone before a lot of you did and I'm not trying to boast about it. I'm using the regular iPhone 15 currently and looking to port to pixel or Xiaomi, I'm not talking out of ignorance if that's what you think.

Seeing your battery health is not only an iPhone feature , OnePlus, Google pixel and Samsung have that feature too. You really don't know much about phones.

Look at this guy, you really know very little, Samsung S10+ is about ₦400,000 while proMax is about ₦250,000. Go to the phone shops and prices it, I import fairly used iPhones from Estonia whenever I come back to Nigeria incase You're not aware 🤣🤣. And there are more iPhones 11 proMax in circulation in Naija than Samsung S10+ and that's because of the overhype of iPhone and how expensive a fairly used Samsung phone is let alone the new one. Besides, I hope you know that apple have long since discontinued iPhone 11 updates? It is now very wonky and heats up when you watch videos with it.

Android is not a phone company for crying out loud!!! It's an OS, Operating System! They don't make phones, they create the operating systems that phones run on. Most phone companies have classes of phones they produce at a given time, unlike pixel and Apple , the rest produce phones for different ranges of consumers. There are the flag ship phones, medium range phones and lower range phones. Samsung's flag ships are the S series, and all their S series from 2019 can still hold up well today. And they don't churn out flag ship phones any more than iPhone does.
And it's a lie what you said about Samsung becoming a relic faster than iPhones, Samsung S23ultra still shits on iPhone 17 that came out recently. Even the S23FE is way better than iPhone of any year. You don't know much about phones that's why you're saying all these, you're the typical Naija phone user that I was talking about, you don't buy technology, you buy brand names. Imagine saying that Samsung becomes a relic within a year... My friend Xiaomi 13 series and Huawei 60 series and the foldable phones of 2023 are still bossing the tech Market, let alone Samsung. I'm very sure you've never seen any of these phones that I mentioned. I'm talking about phones that shits on iPhone 15-16 and to some extent 17 proMax.

I don’t even know where to start responding to these loads of trash. Firstly, where did I claim that Android was a Phone and not an OS?🤣 How? When? Where?
Guy, I’m not your regular IOS vs Android fanboy o. If that’s the argument you want, I’m not here for that. I’m on both OSes and did bro just say this: “S23FE is way better than iPhone of any year” ?
This forum ehn, Una no go kill pesin🤣
I don’t even know where to start attacking this your silly argument.
You also claimed I castigated an iPhone brand I was praising earlier, are you sure you know who you are responding to because I’m lost?🤣🤣
Where did I castigate an “iPhone brand” as claimed? You said you brother’s 14’ battery was heavily degraded after few months of use and I promptly corrected you that even a brand new 14 didn’t have good battery even at launch and isn’t that the truth? If you knew iPhones really well as claimed, you wouldn’t have made that blunder of putting the base iPhone 14 and strong battery in the same sentence🤣
That gave you away.
I would have erroneously assumed you knew what you were saying if you had said 14Promax instead.
I haven’t used a one plus or pixel before and as such, I won’t be saying anything about them since I don’t talk about the things I don’t have but you see that Samsung my bro, kindly show me that feature that tells you the Battery health in percentage as claimed, I’m waiting🤣
Una go just come online Dey cap nonsense. I have an S24ultra bought preordered with the galaxy watch at launch, an Mi 11ultra, a redmi 8, a legion 5ach6 and a 15PM, tell me where that your Samsung battery health feature (that is displayed in percentage just like it is on Apple devices) is or send me a screenshot of it so I can confirm it here and send you screenshot🤣🤣
I listed out all my devices so you know that I operate on almost all the major OSes. I’m not your regular Apple/Samsung fanboy.

Not here to get involved with any IOS/Android debate. However I want to mention that my old IPhone 11 that I just use in the car for Bluetooth music or when working around the house, just recently got an alert for upgrading to IOS 26.6, in preparation for IOS 27.
There is a statement somewhere in this thread about IPhone 11 no longer receiving updates, and that’s totally false!

Don’t mind them. They will just come online and be making false claims like the rest of us are cavemen🤣
He said Apple had stopped sending updates to the 11 series, I couldn’t argue with him because I don’t have one, so he got me there🤣
The same guy even said Oneplus, Pixel and Samsung show you your battery health just like the iPhones and I told him I can’t speak for one plus and pixel but that Samsung, na big lie because I have one and never have I come across such. He hasn’t responded since. I knew he was talking about the Samsung diagnostic🤣. I don’t know why these kids can’t just get and use both OSes and stop disturbing people's peace on which and which is better.
Why should you even call people stupid for what they decide to spend their monies on? This silly thing mostly comes from Android users esp. One even said Nigerians buy them not for quality but for hypes when in actual fact, iPhones have the longest longevity of all smartphones. More people are still using iPhones made 10 years ago than their closest Android competitors that same year. I’m on both OSes and even the windows OS and watchOS so I am not a fanboy to any one of them but even at that, I still so much prefer the IOS, its ecosystem and hardware in general.

Isn’t this just common sense?🤣

iPhone leads bro! Might interest you to know Samsung was once told by an American court to stop copying iPhone….

GeneralOuki:
if you're talking about Rolls Royce of mobile phones, then it Samsung and it's not even up for debate. They're in a stratosphere of their own, they far outclass everyone else in every category imaginable.
iPhone will be a Mercedes Benz S- class. iPhone is a very good phone no doubt, but the hype around it dies immediately you compare it with some of the phones out there right now.

Abeg shift go one side, you don't know anything about phones or what makes a phone better than the other. All you've been saying here are the talking points that people like you spew all the time.

Yes you earlier claimed that iPhone guarantees longevity only to backtrack and say that iPhone 14 has poor battery life, the very same thing I've been saying since. Not only 14, even 15 batteries are dying off and needing replacing. No matter how careful you use an iPhone, the battery health will surely die within 2-3 years. I'm planning on selling off my iPhone 15 and going for pixel or Xiaomi 17 soon.

Go and get a S23FE and compare it with any iPhone of your choice, if you can't get your hands on it then just go to any phone Benchmark site and compare the the phone with any iPhone, It will not give you the full gist but at least it will give you an idea if what you're dealing with.

If you want to see the battery health of Samsung open the Samsung Members app, tap Support, choose Phone diagnostics, and select Battery status, there you will see it. You can even check for Redmi but I will not be telling you how to do that since you claim to know about phones.

Lol... You're just listing phones that you don't own 🤣 Nobody, absolutely no body who owns any of these phones that you just claimed to own would ever be saying the things you've been saying here 😂 , you just ratted yourself out by mentioning Samsung S24Ultra and don't know how to check battery health. Which platform did you preorder from 😏? I wan check something.

You dey use all the OSs but don't know how to operate them to their full capacity, this is exactly why I say Nigerian don't buy tech, we buy brand names, that's why someone will be here telling me that iPhones are better than Samsung or Xiaomi.

God abeg, so you think I’m lying about owning an ordinary s24 ultra? A phone made 2 years ago🤣
I was going to ignore you but then I remembered that silence is not always the best answer for people like you. You need thorough schooling.
If you want to hide a piece of information away from an unlettered man boy, just put it into words, he will surely not read it.
I was very intentional with my choice of words and that’s why I specifically said “in percentage” and even boldened it but you still missed it as predicted🤣. That’s the trap I set for you because I knew surely that it’s the diagnostics you were sillily talking about. In fact, I dropped a screenshot showing mine for another person on this thread that same day, check the thread, you will find it. I did that because I rightly predicted that you would say you thought me how to check it🤣 You didn’t even notice because you don’t even know what the interface of the Samsung diagnostics centre looks like.
What you are saying is the diagnostics/testing where all the phone’s components are tested one by one, it’s not a dedicated battery health watcher like the iOS. This is the same with the Windows OS where there’s also no dedicated in-built battery health monitoring software other than using the command prompt (cfg). Babygirl, who told you iPhone doesn’t have that too? It’s called Analytics on iOS. So basically, almost every phone has the option to check provided they have analytics data but it’s only Apple (I believe) that makes your battery health visible in percentage without you needing to run full system diagnostics/analytics or using third party softwares and this is something and many users even hate Apple for this.
Ofui wan teach me about Sammy🤣
How old are you and how many Samsung devices have you owned?

Away from that, this S23FE seems to be your prayer point with the way you keep glazing it over and over again. Bro even said I should try to lay my hands on one. Like WTF bro?! Make I sell S24U go buy 23FE? God abeg🤣
Nah bro, I don’t need that, I got me an S24 Ultra (with the watch and galaxy buds as preorder gifts) and honestly, I’m shocked to read that you think I’m lying🤣
Is it that much of a big deal to you that you think an average Tom on Nairaland can’t own them?🤣 For you to think it’s a lie, it’s either you are projecting your own persona onto me or owning them just seems impossible for you. My bro, no be everybody life dey beat like you. Shebi you wan put talk for my mouth, me sef no get work and pettiness is what I do for a living🤣
So I should start proving to you that I own a phone made 2 years ago? Well, I’ll do that.
Grow up little kid. The S24 Ultra is no biggie and not everybody is a lowlife who lies about what they don’t own. You even lied that the 11 series had stopped getting updates from Apple only for someone to bust the lies that he got even the latest 26 on his own 11🤣
I didn’t argue that with you because I don’t own an 11. Why should I argue about what I don’t have? Why? To what end?
Lastly, how does having to replace a phone’s battery invalidate its longevity claim? I’ve changed my redmi battery once and the screen twice in 7 years and it’s still kicking today but going by your silly logic, I can’t say it has great longevity since I’ve changed some of its parts at some points. Does changing the parts mean the device itself hasn’t lasted long with me? In the end, school no be scam🤣
Again my bro, pray and work harder so that basic things don’t look like big luxuries to you
No be everybody dey follow una do all this una silly fanboyism. I buy the technologies I love regardless of who makes them. If Tecno releases a banger that meets my digital needs today, I’m getting it without a second thought.
I should normally not be having this conversation with you but two can actually play the dirty game🤣
I don’t mind getting dirty to teach a pig the lessons it needs. I don’t know why Seun keeps deleting my texts but thank your stars and Seun for not giving me the space to school you to my taste.
You are being ignored now.

Bro, this forum is a very crazy and toxic place to be but these kids need to realize that many of us are kings of pettiness😂. No small pikin go fit use me shine because I won’t let it slide.
I’ve come to realize that more often than not, it’s the Android users that start silly arguments like this. You will see them on threads about iPhones saying things like “Androids have had that feature since 10 years ago”, “iPhone users are buying trend”, “iPhones are for non-techy people”, “iPhones are for people who want to showoff and bla bla bla.
It’s annoying and condescending.
There was one here that said iPhone users are stupid people who are being brainwashed by the Apple hype then I responded to him thinking he would be sensible enough to listen. I told him I found that statement to be highly offensive because people use phones for different purposes. I said I for instance for security reasons, I feel more comfortable having my banking apps on an iPhone than on Android while my Androids are more versatile but when it comes to longevity, that the IPhones lift the crown. I tried to make it clear to him that my judgements weren’t biased because I actually use both but to my surprise, the silly thing resorted to trying to broke-shame me by saying I didn’t own any of the phones I claimed to have😂.
I know I’m petty because why even arguing with someone who sees an ordinary Samsung S24 ultra and MI 11 ultra as something so special that a total stranger on Nairaland can’t own?
Who knows if it’s even a secondary school boy I’ve been wasting my precious time on all these while?😂
It’s strange to him to see that there are people who use both OSes. Why can’t everybody just grow up and use what they love without disrespecting others? Use what works for you and end all these silly kindergarteners’ arguments.

Love800:
This separation of apps running independently on their own in iphones, what effect does it have on users?
Asin why do you rally around the iPhone apps restriction so much? What value is the app matter to the general masses?
I think the argument is being looked at from the wrong angle. The average iPhone user doesn't necessarily care that apps are "restricted" or "sandboxed"—they care about what that restriction gives them.

The separation between apps means one app generally can't freely access or interfere with another app's data, files, processes, or system resources. That has practical benefits: better security, less opportunity for one malicious app to compromise other apps, greater privacy, and a more predictable/stable system.

For example, if you download a random app, you don't want that app to be able to rummage through every other app on your phone, modify their data, or freely interact with the operating system.
Sandboxing puts boundaries around it.

So when people defend Apple's app restrictions, they're not necessarily defending "restrictions" for their own sake. They're defending the trade-off Apple has chosen: less freedom for developers and users in some areas, but tighter control over security, privacy, and the overall experience.

That said, I don't think Apple's approach should be treated as automatically superior in every situation. There are legitimate criticisms. The same restrictions can also limit customization, sideloading, interoperability, file access, and what developers are allowed to do.

So the real debate isn't "Do apps being restricted matter to ordinary people?" They absolutely can. The better question is:

How much freedom should users give up in exchange for the security, privacy, stability and simplicity that those restrictions provide?

And reasonable people can disagree on where that balance should be.

but bro, you dey write ooo. I doff my hat. Are you an author? Even my eyes don dey pepper me 😁.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone should be criticized for their choice of phone or operating system. We all have different preferences, priorities, and reasons for choosing a particular device or OS, and those choices should be respected rather than becoming a basis for unnecessary arguments and banter.

I also have to commend you for everything you said. You come across as someone who is genuinely knowledgeable and well-informed about smartphones and technology in general. I particularly appreciate the fact that you recognize the strengths and weaknesses of both ecosystems rather than approaching the discussion from a place of bias.

Kudos, bro. It’s refreshing to see someone have these conversations from an informed and balanced perspective.

sorry but me too sabi write oo 😂😆

Of course, it’s very evident😂
See as Shakespeare dey flatter me o. I think It’s just a Nairaland thingy. You write small thing like this, everywhere don full.
May God bless you richly for these. I just finished reading your other comments on the thread and I must say that you surely know your onions. They were highly intelligent takes and not some emotional outburst from a love-bound fanboy. These are the kinds of people I love having healthy arguments with.
Instead of broke-shaming and tackling ourselves over which maker is better, I think the right thing should be tackling all these OEMs without bias because their devices are never complete. There are always trade-offs. Take for instance the Androids. They give you freedom, varieties, versatility, big cameras and storage, yearly innovative technologies and designs while throwing your security out the window Unlike Apple, Android OEMs are notorious for selling to the public technologies that aren’t perfected at launch all in their quest to do “na me first do am” . A lot of people don’t even know that Samsung was the first to make what has now become the highly successful and seamless Iphone airdrop, it used to be called Samsung beam but it died off because it wasn’t refined. Android makers started what is now the perfected FaceID technology in Iphone. Now, rumors have it that the crease issues that many major OEMs have been struggling with on their foldables is likely going to be fixed by Apple on their very 1st generation of Foldable phones later this year. Mind you, this is something Samsung has been doing for over 7 years o. The first Gen foldables from Samsung was a massive fail. Apple will never release to the public, unrefined products and technologies; they sit back, take their time and study well before releasing them instead of gambling with our hard earned monies. Apple always comes late but always does it better!
Again, unlike Apple, Android makers are so greedy that they make your phone obsolete every year and OEMs like tecno, Itel and infinix are even worse😂They can release 50 different models of phones in a calendar year. You can buy the best infinix today and in a month or two, there are already 10 better ones from the same company ultimately rendering your beloved “latest” phone obsolete in a matter of few months😂
Only iPhone makes phone and makes it clear that it isn’t for you if you have the newer models and this is why if you know what you are doing and not just following trends blindly, you will naturally know that you don’t need the iphone 18PM, 17PM, 16PM or 15PM if you already have the 17PM, 16PM, 15PM or the 14PM respectively because Apple makes it devices in such a way that newer models don’t always render their immediately predecessors obsolete
I think Samsung is now following this same noble trend starting with the Galaxy S23 Ultra because it was a mile better than its immediate predecessor, the s22 ultra but right now, people using the S24U don’t really have any reason to upgrade to 25 while those on S25 ultra don’t really need the 26Ultra because they are basically the same (exactly what Apple has been doing for ages and I don’t know why people aren’t seeing that in actual reality, Apple phones save you more money because it’s almost never obsolete)
You can be proudly using an iPhone made some 5 years ago but we can’t say the same about its Android competitors made in that same year.
Now to the IPhones. Apple would give you Security, Prestige, Sweet ecosystem with seamless integration (when used with AirPods, MaC, IPad or an Applewatch), Great value-for-money, Refining and Perfecting of already existing technologies e.g faceID, Airdrop, Handoff etc) and Longevity then they take away your freedom all in the name of security Imagine in 2026, IOS still doesn’t have the split-screen functionality😂 It doesn’t even have ordinary clipboard. You can’t multitask. Its screen mirroring technology is shitty when compared to that of Samsung (Samsung DEX). In 2025, Apple was shamelessly announcing to us that we could now customize our Home Screen😂
In short, they both have their strengths and weaknesses and the best thing to do is to kukuma use both in order to enjoy the benefits of both worlds.
Don’t mind my epistle, boredom no be better thing but it seems you’re even worse than me 😂

Wow.

I understand now.

I really appreciate.
