Osun Election: Muslim Scholars, Imams Endorse Oyebamiji by Okerenla(op): 2:06am On Aug 11
With barely five days to the Osun State governorship election, Muslim scholars and imams across the state have endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, for the August 15 poll.

The Muslim groups, who gathered at the country home of the Asiwaju Musulumi of the South-West, Edo and Delta States, in Osogbo, said their endorsement was based not only on religious considerations but also on Oyebamiji’s competence and capacity to deliver good governance.

The groups included the United Imams and Alfas, Qodriyah Islamic Society, Progressive Muslim Teachers, Zumuratu-l-Mumineen, Imam Ratibi, Isale-Osun Zone and Alasaro Osogbo, among others.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the event, Chief Tunde Badmus said the groups were working in support of President Bola Tinubu and had resolved to unite behind the APC candidate in the state.

“As you can see, there are different Muslim groups here. As their leader, I had to communicate President Bola Tinubu’s position to them on the Osun election, and they are all here to endorse Tinubu’s candidate for the August 15 governorship election before we head to the 2027 general election next year,” he said.

Badmus also disclosed that more than 500 persons with hearing impairment attended the event and displayed their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, as evidence of their decision to vote for Oyebamiji.

“They came with their voter cards to show that they have decided to go for Oyebamiji in this governorship election and that they are not ready to sell their voter cards,” he said.

Representatives of the groups, AbdulGaniy Olaoye of Zumuratul Muhmineenah and Alfa Kamaldeen of Qodriyah, also endorsed Oyebamiji, saying their support was in solidarity with President Tinubu.

They pledged to mobilise voters across their communities in support of the APC candidate in the election.

Olaoye said the groups were supporting Oyebamiji because of his commitment to Islam and his previous contributions to the Muslim community.

"We follow someone who is dedicated to Islam, and he has been doing many things to support Islam in the past. That is why we are here, and we are rest assured that Munirudeen Oyebamiji will be victorious in the coming election,” he said.

Adeleke should hire a truck, buy traveling bags and suitcases and start packing.

It’s game over and it’s so guaranteed

These so-called religious leaders haven't learnt yet, but I'm sure they will.

They keep allowing politicians to use them every election cycle.

That was how my dad too (a prominent Alfa in Ajegunle) was running around to rally the support of other Alfas for Tinubu. When I tried to dissuade him, he said I don't know anything. That a Muslim president from South West will definitely fix the country and will be sympathetic to their "cause". I warned him then that hunger & suffering don't recognize religion. He remained adamant. To the extent that he labelled me "opposition". I kukuma held my peace.

Now, he has learnt his lesson. After fuel subsidy removal touch am well, increased electricity tariff hammer am, then came increased cost of commodities and endless tax. My dad began to realize what he got himself into.

Fast forward to last year when government stopped subsidizing education, that was the straw that broke his back because four of his children (my younger siblings) are currently in the University. My papa screamed to the high Heaven when he saw the school fees. Compared to those of us who graduated long before Tinubu became president. It was at that moment he knew the government doesn't have the interest of the masses at heart.

Firstly, he removed himself from their so-called "support group" and warned all his colleagues to never mention anything related to Tinubu in his presence again. I nearly tear my belle with laughter. Till today, I still mock him whenever we talk. I'll jokingly ask him if he still believes in Tinubu.

These Alfas will learn too! It's just a matter of time.

“ We follow someone who is dedicated to Islam, and he has been doing many things to support Islam in the past. That is why we are here, and we are rest assured that Munirudeen Oyebamiji will be victorious in the coming election,” he said.

Imagine the contradiction. The same said that their endorsement is not based on religious considerations.

Why do Muslims appear to deceive themselves all the time? They always play the religious card and turn around to accuse Christians of playing the same religious card. If Christians choose to support a Christian candidate, they begin to scream to the highest heavens.

Adeleke MUST and SHOULD use the power of incumbency, the same way Tinubu is using it at the federal level. Otherwise, he’s a goner.

Politics is not for the faint-hearted. He should learn from Wike, Seyi Makinde and the rest.

Of course it's expected. After all, APC is a party that clearly has Islamic agenda, hence the reason for adamant Muslim - Muslim ticket at the center. If Christians are not fools, here is their chance to rise up from their slumber and take the bull by the horn by voting for the incumbent who clearly is a Christian or else the right to be a Christian in this country would be trampled upon and eventually evacuated by these islamists going forward

What's so smart about it? It's simply a matter of being power-hungry and willing to play the game. Christians can be just as strategic when they choose to. Without the Christian vote, a Muslim candidate cannot win either.
