Why is it that everyone outside of delta state thinks the whole place is warri, meanwhile warri doesn't even cover up to 25% in delta state. I used to think I was a warri boy myself not until in my teenage years I realised warri I have been claiming I really wasn't from there in fact I barely even go there..okere,igbudu and the rest. I was born and bred in "EFFURUN" Uvwie the major entry point of delta state and yet for years I thought I was a warri boy and you wouldnt blame me. You'd blame our fore fathers (urhobos) who really didn't care that much because they were so accommodating that they accepted anything be thrown at them even to the point of accepting names that isnt geographically correct in the first place.

Realwarripickin cancelled show saga made alot of people realise that warri they have been calling they haven't even been there. When travelling to delta, you'd see the park writing warri but where they actually drop you is EFFURUN ROUNDABOUT or PTI JUNCTION in Uvwie local government area. that is not even close to warri at all, to get to warri you'd have to take a cab or keke that Wil drive close 40min plus passing all the neighboring Uvwie communities before you finally enter warri.

Now this isn't tribal war or discrimination is just awareness that Lot of people didn't know and that's how history got lost and children to come wouldn't even know their identity. This matter has been on ground for years now that people should stop generalising everywhere in delta state as warri.. you'd see someone travelling from Lagos and the destination is ughelli.. ask him he will say he is going to warri.. like come on does that make sense? Do you know the distance from ughelli to warri?

You'd see someone staying in SAPELE, you'd ask him where he stays he will say WARRI. all this have been going on for years and we've tried and tried to make several corrections, either we get insulted or people keeps saying it doesn't matter like they just don't want to know.


So my people to end it all this ongoing saga really sweet my belly very well atleast the whole Nigeria is getting to know that where they've claimed to been to or even stayed for years is not actually warri.

Whatever happens they settle it among themselves.


I didn't know that Effurun is not same as Warri till this morning. Just like Ife-Modakeke saga

Op I get you guys. But the truth is these comedians did well to put Warri on a positive trajectory with comedy. The likes of AY, I Go Die, Gordons etc were the top movers of comedy in Lagos and they decided to look back home. They discovered a lot of talents from there the likes of Ebo bomb, Destalker etc. Amaju Pinnick spent a lot of money sponsoring Warri Again for years. In all it was a win win for Delta State. But with recent developments, Warri and Delta State at large.
This is the reason companies left Warri in the early 90's and made the town a ghost town.
Unfortunately no lessons were learnt.

I struggle to see a more ridiculous issue that people usually concern themselves about. It's probably partly because the name is not from their culture and so they want to do away with it and propagate their own.

There are so many parts that claim London, that were never considered London even 50 years ago.

Same with New York city. Same with LA. Same with Paris. Probably the same with Mumbai.

In Nigeria, this is the same with Abuja. Same with Kano. Same with Abeokuta and so on.

As a Lagos boy, I have seen places that were never called VI, now called VI. Places never described as Lekki, called Lekki. Same with Surulere. Same with Yaba.

If it is very important for you people that Warri does not grow and the identity of other places are protected, then good luck....but human beings do this for a reason, maybe when you people have stopped your ethnic hatred and are left behind, you will find out.

Warri and war are like the first 3 letters. I used to stay around Airport roads, any time I visited then. Last year, I went to Warri, couldn't believe the ghost of a town it has become. Same warning we are sending to Lagos louts.

Please I would advise those that do not know the root of these issue to abstain from commenting because justice, fairness and equity is the only solution to true peace that brings security and development.
The truth is that Warri town, ogunu, okumagba estate, ubeji in Warri south LGA, Effurun city and perhaps the whole Uvwie LGA, udu LGA, otokutu in Ughelli south, jeddo, okukoko and osubi in Okpe up to agbarho in Ughelli north have become a conurbation.
Each of these areas have their respective kings and people's, mostly the urhobos, while the itsekiris have a king known as the Olu. Warri town itself has four kings, each with Warri attached to their name. But a set of people lay claim to the name and cunningly anywhere called that name, including the other two Warri local govt where the ijaws I believe are the majority. For peace to reign, there must be no more land grabbing tactics by all sides involved whether by changing of people's community names or otherwise, elections should be free and fair, leaders must resist ethnicism, divisive and insultive rhetoric like calling people slaves and tenants should stop. All the kings must preach peace to their people, both sides must make mutually respectful statements and finally the title Olu of Warri which has created a false sense of entitlement and ownership to some, should be changed to Olu of itsekiri Warri, or Olu of itsekiri as it was before independence, as the name Warri has expanded beyond the original location known as Warri, into neighbouring Urhobo areas while living most of the original areas of the old empire behind literally. This will bring a feeling of brotherhood between everyone and the term Warri will perhaps now be easily accepted by all. I believe with this suggestions the tensions will reduce.

Ps: some have advocated that if the title is not changed the surrounding areas experiencing a population and developmental surge should come to be known as wado city in the future.

Conclusion, everyone loves Warri but when a sect of people use terms like they own Warri, all other people there are tenants, the 3 Warri belong to their king etc. you can't expect people to want to associate with such. Thank you for reading.

The authorities has a role to play, in the 90s even in sign board in Effurun and Udu , Warri was written on sign post after writing Effurun or Udu Road , While growing up in Effurun in the 90s and early 2000, the authorities started changing and erasing warri from all sign board in Effurun, in Udu Road , Warri was replaced with Ovwian in most sign post. But you cant erase this in the mind of People. For me i think all this adjourning town like , Effurun, Udu, Usubi are all part of Warri Metropolis not necessarily Warri Town. So its not wrong still calling them Warri

Obviously there's no love lost. That's why they wouldn't adopt the name 'Warri'. Not all areas in the present Lagos were part of the original Lagos. Yet they all adopt the name Lagos with no fracas. But in the absence of love, there will always be a fraca.
