Governor Ademola Adeleke appeared on course for re-election on Saturday night as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the final collation of results from the 2026 Osun State governorship election. Results arriving from local government areas across the state showed the incumbent maintaining a significant lead over his closest rivals, strengthening expectations that he could secure another four-year term in office. The election, one of the most closely watched political contests in Nigeria this year, attracted national attention due to its potential impact on political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. As collation progressed, supporters of the governor gathered at various locations across the state to celebrate the results already announced, while opposition parties continued to express confidence that outstanding results could still influence the final outcome. Adeleke, who entered the election as one of the leading contenders, campaigned on his administration’s record in infrastructure development, education, healthcare and social welfare programmes. His supporters argued that those achievements played a significant role in the voting pattern witnessed across many parts of the state. The main challenge to the governor came from the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who sought to return the party to power in Osun. The contest also featured candidates from several other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam. Throughout election day, reports from observers indicated that voting was generally peaceful in most parts of the state, although isolated incidents and logistical concerns were reported in a few locations. Security agencies deployed thousands of personnel across Osun to maintain order during the exercise. The Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies maintained a visible presence at polling units and collation centres. INEC officials began receiving results from local government collation centres after the conclusion of voting and counting at polling units. Electoral officers worked through the evening as party agents, election observers and journalists monitored proceedings. Political analysts say the outcome of the election could have implications beyond Osun State, with major political parties expected to study the results closely as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections. While Adeleke’s growing lead has fuelled expectations of victory among his supporters, INEC has repeatedly reminded the public that only officially declared results should be regarded as authentic until the commission concludes the collation process. As the final figures continue to emerge, attention remains fixed on the state collation centre where INEC officials are expected to announce the official outcome of the election once all valid results have been received and verified. The momentum appears to favour the incumbent governor, who is edging closer to securing a second term pending the completion of the electoral process and official declaration by the commission. Lithiumite:Davido used his global voice to force Tinubu and INEC to maintain some level of neutrality even though they manipulated the election in some places but Davido put Tinubu and INEC on a very hot seat. Tinubu had no option. Adeleke should thank Davido for helping him. Davido is a one man squad bigger than all the criminal APC Governors and their evil mercenaries ![]() |

This is a prelude to 2027 elections. Yarimo, FSBoperator and Helinues are MIA. Nairaland has been conspicuously quite and free from their nuisance. |
