The re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the just-concluded Osun election is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country under the All Progressives Congress administration.

I called Governor Ademola Adeleke

earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.

I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.

I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land.

I must also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

May our democracy continue to thrive and be strengthened

Almost 1 million votes casted. This is the largest turnout in osun state history.

What is the essence of congratulating one who wins an election?

Congratulations to Governor Demola Adeleke of Osun state. He put up a good fight and won. That is what democracy is all about.

Kudos to INEC for conducting a free and fair election. Kudos also to APC for putting up a very close fight with the incumbent. In democracy, you win some and lose some. Unlike the usual bad losers who went to town badmouthing the process anytime APC wins, we can all see that APC is not blaming anybody for this loss. We are democrats and we understand we can’t win all the time.


Special congratulations to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring the will of the people is done. From Edo to Anambra to Ekiti and now Osun, Mr. President ensured a level playing field for all parties. That is what leadership is all about. Thank you Mr. President for being a father to all.

For Osun APC, I’m sure they have all seen their shortcomings. Adeleke begged to join the party but they rejected him. Oyetola and Omisore in particular stood firmly against President Tinubu’s proposal to allow Adeleke join APC. Now, we’ve all seen the outcome. It is time for introspection.

Overall, I wish the people of Osun State all the best. They’ve made their decision and it must be respected.

Good politicking there on the part of Tinubu who does not have my vote in 2027 unless he provides stable electricity and very much unlike the politically abrasive Atiku and the politically slimy Peter Obi. Bola Oyebamiji a few days to the election just remembered he also bears Munirudeen! He was playing religious politics forgetting that his opponents are also ---"deens" 😂. The real victory comes when the people can say: “We voted for him, and he delivered.”

Don’t celebrate the occupation of the office. Judge the performance in it. The ballot is not a trophy. It is a bill the winner must pay with good governance.

This is a testimony that if citizens want credible election, they fight to get it...I heard that osun voters apprehended APC thugs who want to disrupt the election...and seized the money they wanted to use to buy vote

Baba was open to Adeleke joining APC. It was local politics that schemed Adeleke out and prevented him from joining. So in that case Baba allowed a fair game. A Nigerian president is very powerful. I have always found it strange when politicians are congratulated simply because they won an election.

Think about it this way: contesting for an elective office is basically volunteering to serve the people. If you win, you have not won a trophy. You have been given a job and a responsibility.

So, what exactly are we congratulating you for?

In a country where elections are sometimes followed by corruption, broken promises and abuse of public office, congratulating someone immediately after winning can almost sound like saying:

“Congratulations on getting the opportunity to loot public money.”

That is not what democracy is supposed to be about.

The real congratulations should come later, after the person has served well, improved people's lives, built what he promised and left office with a good record.

Winning the election gets you the office. Good governance earns you the respect.

Until then, don't confuse winning a seat with winning the people.

During the election, most problematic tribal people identified as people from Osun State during ward counting. Others were posting results from their units. Since the election is over now, can we all now go back to being from Lagos?

Even Federal might could not safe APC. This is a signal to 2027 Election. The sufferings people are subjected to under this APC government is second to none. Kudos to the people of Osun State.
