WAFCON 2026: Cameroon thrash Malawi to win first ever title

Cameroon thrashed Malawi 3-0 in Sunday’s final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Indomitable Lionesses won the title for the first time.

All three goals came in the first half as they outclassed the debutants in Rabat, Morocco.


Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring before Naomi Eto made it 2-0 with a superb swivelling finish.

Ngah Manga then completed her brace to give Cameroon a commanding 3-0 lead going into half-time.


The triumph ends a long wait for Cameroon who had previously finished as runners-up in the competition on three occasions.

Their most recent final appearance before 2026 came in 2016 when they lost 1-0 to Nigeria.

There's nothing to be investigated here, Morocco invested heavily on their sporting infrastructures, I'm sure if you're a major decider of the hosting right and fair at it, after touring all the stadia in all the nations that submitted bid to host, you will surely vote Morocco, how many international standard stadium do we have in Nigeria, the so called giant of Africa? So, Morocco is reaping the harvest of the investment.

This results shows that the falcons did not really underperform but just failed to upskill while some other nations have improved their games tremendously over time. Personally, I never imagine any of these two teams in the final talk less of winning the title

Their goal keeper is a flying winch. She was their life saver in this tournament right from her first game against the super falcons

But truth be told they have suffered in the hand of Nigeria


1. In 2004, the indomitable lioness of Cameroon thought they have arrived in women's football and we're to play the super Falcons in the finals hosted in South Africa.

The lioness were so loud mouthed I thought that was the end of Nigéria.

But on the d-day only one player from Nigeria
Perpetual Nkwocha silenced Cameroon scoring 4 goals as we ended the game 5-0. In the finals.

Also in the 2016 edition hosted by Cameroon
They felt this time they are playing at home in Younde and so will do the magic

Yet again Nigeria won the women's Africa Cup of Nations for an eighth time after a 1-0 win over hosts Cameroon in front of a capacity 40,000 crowd in Yaounde.

A late goal from Desire Oparanozie was enough for Nigeria to retain the trophy they won in Namibia two years ago.

That victory silence Cameroon till date.



But kudos this year we just allowed them because we have won it 10 times already


But watch out the super falcons will be back
