Osun Residents Escort Election Materials on Motorcycles Amid Phone Call Concerns

Residents of Ward Okerewe 3 in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State were captured on video riding motorcycles (okada) alongside a vehicle transporting election materials to a collation centre during the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.

The residents reportedly took the action after observing the driver of the vehicle receiving multiple phone calls, prompting concerns about the safety of the materials. They followed the vehicle to ensure the ballots reached the collation centre without interference.

The election, held on 15 August 2026, featured a tight contest between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later declared Adeleke the winner.

The video of the residents’ vigilance has circulated widely on Instagram and X, drawing praise for the active monitoring of the electoral process by ordinary citizens.
