The person who actually was born in a village was my great grandfather in 1800's.
His own father was not born in that village either.

Late Buhari was buried in his compound.

Seeing how Muslims and Western cultures embrace cemeteries, I feel like every other culture and religion should do the same. If not a public cemetery, then at least a private family or kindred burial ground.Right now, many families bury their dead indiscriminately on their property. Then, 30 years later when the kids make some money and decide to build modern houses, they end up excavating skeletal remains.I actually saw a situation where a man was buried right in the middle of a family compound. A few years later, when the land was being shared among his sons, the boundary line went straight through the grave. The man’s headstone was on one son's plot, and his lower body was on the other's!In a case like that, what do you even do? Excavate the remains and relocate them? Relocate them where, and to whose side of the land? Setting up proper cemeteries is honestly the best way forward.

The body is like a clothe...a container for we to inhabit and experience life on earth m imagine burying clothes, or throwing expensive burial parties for containers.

The living should be celebrated while they're alive, not when they're dead
Once again, burial party is a mockery of the dead. Anything you can do for a person while they're alive, do so and halt procrastination. You can't really do anything for the dead, except you're a seer or a medium

Let the living celebrate the living, let the dead celebrate the dead smiley

go to osun where I'm from. Muslim even burry at home then the Christian.. I haven't ask people why they burry at home, but from my finding, some do so to avoid children fighting because of property. My let grandpa and his siblings build the house in our village, some of his siblings are Muslim.. just recently, one of my uncle, my late dad younger brother wants to build a church on the land in our compound, this said land, my grandpa siblings children who were Muslim were also using same land to dry palm nuts... It cuz alot of fight but elders in the family were able to settle it. If not people were buried there, they would have sold that land. So most are buried at home to avoid family problems.
They will land and nothing will happen. Na to remove the remains of the dead. Nothing new even happened on my street
So to do ourselves favour, cemetery is best.

Because most Muslims do it doesn't mean it's what is recommended.

May God give us good ending. Ameen

But this thread is from the culture section and not Islam section.
I have just made enlightenment regardless of wheat section.

Unsee it if it's not beneficial...

Well, that was not necessary because last time I checked, none Muslims were heavily restricted from commenting anyhow on the Islam section.

Exactly what happened to my brother junior who died in 2019 and was buried in his share of family land

In 2025, we wanted to build house for his wife and children, the building touched her grave. I told the excavator not to dig deep around his grave side to avoid exhuming his remains. They did so, if I wasn't there they might digged deep thereby exhuming his remains

Family cemetery is good idea, at least history will be also maintained because the date of death, burial and funeral will be written on gravestone

It is man made tradition of foolishness.
A colleague died recently, and veryone of us had to contribute money to transport his corpse to Maiduguri.

As a Muslim, we bury our dead wherever death meets us.

As a married woman no family will accept the body of their daughter to be buried in her paternal home. That is why we strong recommend every woman live peacefully with husband.

Only the body of the sons must return to father’s home. I have not see any father receive a married daughter’s body to rest in his compound . Only wives —-

We lay our deads in our compounds so that they can rest with our ancestors and enjoy the sacrifices we the living offer them from time to time without interference from other spirits.

Thanks bro. We took her to her town, hoping her family will help save her from an attack. So, while on our way to her town from Lagos, she died. At that point, as expected of anyone, my dad should have ordered the driver to turn and head back to Lagos, from Ibadan since we've not gotten to her town which was still far from Ibadan, but he didn't do that.

Taking her corpse to her parents nearly cost him his own life, too, as they were angry for seeing their daughter being returned dead when she was given alive. I didn't even realize the fact that she was supposed to be buried in my dad's house at that young age, but as I got matured the act bittered me. That it is improper for husband to take his wife's corpse to her father's house. The best would have been to call the parent for them to come see the corpse in his house and make arrangement to bury her in his own house, after all, he wasn't living in a rented apartment.
