It's quite unfortunate that the FCT Minister has decided to be selling off green areas and designated water channels in Abuja.. this is what you get when you ignore engineers, surveyors, town planners etc to be taking careless decisions for selfish gains and personal enrichment.

In 8-10years from now, Abuja might become a complete eyesore if they don't stop indiscriminate sales of lands outside the Abuka master plan.

Are you saying those that designed the city initially don't know what they are doing?.. or is it you that came yesterday that knows everything??.
It's the same way they spoilt Lagos that they have started with Abuja.

That is the problem...
Svoboda:
Much of the blame goes to the authorities. Most of the green areas developed to absorb and channel floods into the central drainage system in the city centre have been converted to residential spaces. This has greatly distorted the master plan which had been strictly enforced before the PH gang came by with their insatiable appetite for wealth.

Residential abi dem don sell all the places to people building plazaz everywhere

And these evil people do not even bother to construct a simple drainage in front of their plazaz o, Infact the even block the existing drainages and those in authorities are seeing them but won't say anything till something disastrous happens

The problem with you people is you are too local to know what's going on around the world.

Indiana is almost under the water currently. Would you have so many earthquakes around the world without tsunami following?

Imagine, you want to be blaming Wike for this
Under Wike's government green areas are being allegedly allocated and developed. It is simple. Green areas are the 'sump' of the city to mitigate against this exact thing.

I know tinubu is a bad leader. I do not like Wike, but saying that abuja master plan was strictly enforced before 2023 shows you do not live in Abuja.

The master plan of Abuja was being poorly enforced as far back as the 1990's...when Abacha moved in a mass of people into Abuja beyond the capacity of the city to hold it in the name of moving capital city properly.

EL rufai tried to restore the masterplan, and succeded a bit, but was not ultimately sucessful.

Plus the drainage system is not big enough for the whole city by the way, as it is.

Lookie old boy, NIgeria was not a paradise before 2023. All this giving a k9 a bad name in order to hang it is not an effective means of criticising the regime of wike and Tinubu.

Elrufai used to enforce the rules when he was minister. Demolished buildings even.

And everyone....abused him.

Once he left office, he was subjected to a panel where people whose houses he rightly demolished came to label him a evil person (then there was his beef with the senate at the same time).

Once he left office, normal service of distortion resumed.

Nigerians self.

Abuja is meant to be the glorious capital of Nigeria but look how much it has been degraded by greedy individuals.
The same path was toed by lagosians and the result is glaring to the blind.
You cannot build everywhere and cover the ground with concrete and bitumen and not expect floods…where will the water gohuh

The FCDA should insist on a complete EIA and a DIA (Drainage Impact Analysis) for all commercial developments within the capital.

Most of the SuDS features have been sold to build hotels to their fellow cronies by the people in charge. We must learn that development is a wholesome process and not by building a few roads and high rise buildings. We will learn the hard way… sadly I’m not even sure our leaders have the capacity to learn
I wonder why you guys are so quick to talk down on the country whenever there are floods and natural disasters. Major cities in developed countries experience floods from time to time. Wake up

Google is your friend

Double wahala for dedi bodi.

Flooded cars imported from abroad have now been flooded anew in Abuja.

Car buyers, shine your eyes very well before shelling out millions of naira.

As a city of hills and valleys with very little flat land it should have no business with flooding except if man interferes with the natural course of it's many streams and natural canals.
Re: Flash Floods Hit Abuja After Heavy Rainfall, Cars Submerged (Photos, Video) by 3kay945(m): 4:30pm On Aug 17
If this video or pictures are real, then maybe a dam is needed close by. Small drainages cannot handle this.

It is natural disasters so we have to be smart to tame it.

But, do we have the sensehuh That's question for another day.
