Osun election: Adeleke denies pact with ADC to win re-election


Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied a claim by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the party supported his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.

The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had attributed the party’s poor performance, which saw its governorship candidate secure 17,180 votes, to its decision to work for Adeleke to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the election.

However, Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the governor had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during or after the election.

Rasheed said Adeleke credited God and the people of Osun State for his re-election, while clarifying that the ADC was not part of the coalition that supported his campaign.

“Governor Adeleke credited God and the Osun people for his re-election win. ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed and supported his battle for last Saturday’s election,” he said.

The governor commended political allies who supported his re-election bid, saying their efforts contributed to what he described as a victory for the people of Osun.


“I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance,” Adeleke said.

He added that the conclusion of the election marked a new phase in which his administration would serve all residents of the state regardless of their political affiliation, religion or ethnicity.

“Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race,” he said.

I listened to both Bolaji Abdulahi and Dele Momodu recently and I was ashamed of the level of shamelessness the opposition ADC has descended into.

Your party put up a candidate for the election. Atiku went all the way to Osogbo to campaign for the ADC. After losing the election very woefully, you then came on National Tv to lie that you had an alliance with a party that had announced its endorsement of the reelection of Mr. President. That’s quite pathetic to be honest.

This again speaks to the incompetency, deceitfulness and lack of seriousness of the opposition ADC. There is no single credible and sensible person in that party. They just want power by any means possible. Those kind of character must never be allowed to get anywhere near Aso Rock.
