The end of open grazing is very near in Enugu State as Gov @PNMbah has embarked on an 11,000-hectare Livestock and Ranch Devt that will transform animal husbandry, keep cattle away from farmlands and streets, employ thousands youths, eliminate herder’s crisis & enhance security.

Will Fulanis benefit from the ranch? If yes, it is what it is. Don't forcefully take people's land and give it to "visitors" . |

A proposal that was vehemently opposed and rejected when PMB's FG introduced it more than 6 years ago? We are not serious in Nigeria as we attach unnecessary emotions to everything. Modified: Seeing so many mentions with excuses and wrong representations of what the then FG proposed. Sorry, you lot are not sincere. The FG then did not propose that ranches should be owned by the herders, rather to be allocated and operated as each state deemed necessary. Nigeria is not a united country, and this is a major reason we cannot achieve anything meaningful together. |

Every Enugu government always pays Nairaland to move useless topics about the state to front page. Enugu has been totally ungoverned in the last 3 years. Forget the optics |

Cattle rearing is a personal business, I see no reason the government should fund such project. Nigeria is not the only country where private citizens rear cattles, so why should it be any different ? I hope the government will also provide the same amount of funding for private citizens rearing pigs, fishes and dogs. Most Enugu folks I know are into buying and selling and mostly commerce. What percentage of Enugu people are into cattle rearing ? We need the data because this might be used as a template for other States. 11,000 hectares is a huge chunk of land |

Who are the people that would be managing this ranch. Who would provide the feeds for the cattle Whose cattle would be ranched here Why should ranches be in the south east and not in the north Whose land has been used taken to make room for this 11,000 So finally fulani has finally gotten there settlement in the south east, and legally too for that matter |

After all the initial hot-air and gra-gra. Gov. Mbah is a true progressive that has allowed reason to prevail over emotions. More jobs created + increased revenue + food production for the state. Kudos to the Enugu State Government. |

Very impressive let it be headed by an enugu person there's absolutely no reason why cows will be destroying farmlands, roaming the streets and littering it with their excretas in this 21st century when they can easily set up a modern ranch system to accommodate those cows. |

Ranching and animal husbandry is not the exclusive preserve of any ethnic group. So sad that other groups in the country have given the monopoly to the Fulani man. It is time other tribes train their own in animal husbandry, set up ranches and reduce the influence of the Fulani man in this business. State governments in the south should set up massive ranches for their people to do animal husbandry and feed themselves with milk and meat. No one will need to tell the Fulani man to return home. |

This is a good development. And this is clearly different from RUGA, RUGA is an Hausa name attributing the land to Fulanis but this is modern ranching, a life stock farm/market owned by Enugu, managed and control by the state government, headed by indigen of Enugu, open to all law abiding Nigerian citizens. The land belong to the state and the state has the right to move, modify, dissolve the market in the future, meaning all traders/farmers occupying the land are tenants. Kudos to the governor. |
