I think it is a good idea. I suppose the land is leased by the communities to the State government and the facilities run as a PPP....just like every other public facility such as markets, motorparks, free trade zones or ports of one kind or the other. |

Enugu state has the largest land area in the south east so that is the ideal place for Fulani ranching, besides Fulani have always considered Enugu as their home having the first mayor of Enugu town. As long as they don't bring that rubbish to Anambra, they can have as much land in Enugu for their occupation. |
| Re: Enugu Embarks On 11,000-hectare Livestock And Ranch Development To Curb Grazing by Reference(m): 8:23am On Aug 19 |
Slippy:It should not be like that. The land should rather be leased from the communities for a specific, long term period in a purely commercial transaction and subject to renewal. The government runs the facilities in a PPP mod l for efficiency. And just like other public facilities no one is given permanent residence or ownership. This should be made clear to all involved in the MOU to avoid future problems. I hope they have also done a thorough EIA study. Ranches not done well can be environmentally damaging in ways that cannot be ordinarily reversed. |

AsomughaChuks02:It is up to the state to ensure it is not a 'Fulani' thing. It is first and foremost a business, an industrial location not a cultural theme park. I don't know why we just cannot escape the tribal shackles holding us down. Anyone should be able to go into that place and practice, trade in the raising of livestock. Afterall the Fulani will tell you that a good proportion of the animals they raise belong to non Fulani. We can do better than to stereotype professions, vocations and business interests. The Enugu state government should encourage it's indigenes to venture into the field and practice animal husbandry alongside the traditional pastoralists. That may lead to trust, understanding and solidarity in the long run. |

Jayhome24:lol. so you really believe this news from the surface level ? your so-called governor peter mba is dancing to the tune of the jihadists in govt in Abuja, and you are here ignorantly praising him. Mr mba is bringing into Enugu state those infamous destiny killers aka Fulani-herdsmen, through the back door just to please his pay masters in Abuja. non of his sugar coating reothoric can deceive us in Enugu, and we are waiting for the outcome of this his mischievous adventure. we know immediately he joined APC evil party, he has a sinister motive for his own selfish- ends. what does an Igbo man know about rearing cattles ? if and when the jihadists' fulani-herdsmen killings increased in Enugu, we the indigines of Enugu will hold this clueless governor mba responsible, because you don't bring naked fire into the roof of your building and expect the building not to be burnt to ashes . this is a very bad news to we in Enugu state because, from history no any collabo with the fulanis has ever ended in a positive note, as it always end with sorrows, tears and blood-shedding of the innocent people, of the host communities . |

AsomughaChuks02:you are typical selfish Nigerian, possesed with the evil spirit of nigerianism. you have agreed it's a rubbish, yet you want the rubbish to be heaped upon your own brothers at Enugu, believing that it will not affect you, but you are wrong because it will surely affect you in many ways that you least expected. unchecked evils has no boundaries ! |

PassingShot:Let me school you. This Enugu's plan is a rental plan. The cattle owners will pay rent. Buhari's plan for ranching was named RUGA. Buhari was looking for permanent settlement(s) for Fulanis in the regions. They are to expound from that settlement. This was how the fulanis took over the northern part of Kaduna many years ago and now has become thorns unto Southern Kaduna. Is it the Buhari that started deradicalisation and reintroduction of terrorists in the community/police and army, prefers to buy expensive SUVs for govt of Niger and construct rail line from Kano to Njeminah when PH-Enugu-Benue-Maiduguri rail is down. Is it that Buhari you want Igbos to trust ![]() If only u are wise. God used Igbos to save Nigeria from Buhari's devilish plans. Only the SE rejected cattle colony/RUGA. |
| Re: Enugu Embarks On 11,000-hectare Livestock And Ranch Development To Curb Grazing by Moneyyman: 9:00am On Aug 19 |
The problem was his body language to his brothers! Armed herdsmen were killing farmers and destroying their crops, the president came out to force RUGA on states. Have you seen a non-northerner growing pigs in the north and killing the natives because they opposed them from destroying their farms? NO! So states were right to reject that solution from Buhari if he was not ready to confront the armed destroyers. And even now, they must fully ensure that the marauding terrorists disguising as herdsmen don't get involved. It must be purely for herdsmen who comply with local laws. PassingShot: |

I'm from Eti-Osa and I'm not from Enugu but I'm curious about the data. What is the percentage of the Enugu people that are into cattle rearing ? Cattle rearing is a private business, just like fishery, farming, piggery, fishery and the likes. I hope the data shows and justify the 11,000 hectares of land being allocated for cattle rearing, a personal business venture. If it's actually about job creation, we should see the data that shows the Enugu people are into this business. Mrexcell: |

PassingShot:This is quite different from PMB's ideas. Pmb was canvasing for cattle ranching route, in which they will have their route in all states and they can move through the route from one state to another which is still like a free range at which they can enter another farmers farm land. Unlike this particular one, you can not move beyond this 11,000 hactare of land . It's like a fenced environment. |

Iyobaba:The enugu govt is just doing their job of creating the enabling environment for profitable cattle business to thrive watch the video and hear from the enugu govt official explaining in details how everything will eventually work out even if enugu indigens are not naturally into the cattle business they can always go into the business once the enugu govt has successfully established the modern ranch where private investors can come in to invest. The cattle business is quite very huge and very profitable. |
| Re: Enugu Embarks On 11,000-hectare Livestock And Ranch Development To Curb Grazing by Iyobaba(m): 9:43am On Aug 19 |
I watched the video, it says it's about preventing open grazing, do the Enugu people openly graze cattles ? We both know the people doing that. I don't know any Enugu person that has ever done that, they probably rear cattles but to say the Enugu people are the major beneficiary is being economical with the truth. I hope it works for them.
