Judging by this metric - that is, retaining network - you will be shocked at the amount of signal and signal quality the ZTE G5F retains. In fact, that is the single most significant metric that makes it better than others, in my opinion.

Fwiw I haven't experimented with the Huawei model. I have had short term experience with X17U when a friend bought it. That time it gave so much problems that the guy stopped using it extirely till this day. But as I often say here, most of the problems stem from the specific Sim cards (internal or external) associated with these devices, which require fixing by Airtel. Outside that, all the devices are equal to the basic task of giving 50mbs Internet speed. But let me not digress further.

Before Airtel improved in my location, band 7 was very elusive here. I had ZLT X25 base model, ZLT X17M, and the G5F, the ZLT devices were struggling to get a single bar on all the cells and frequencies on band 7. But G5F was getting 3 bars and up to 20 SINR.

Right now, others get 2 to 3 bars while it gets full bars. Unfortunately, it's is hanging idle these days as I am primarily using X25pro, because the ZTE MC801A I used to use as IDU for the G5F is deployed elsewhere as repeater and LAN extension.

Please those using the MTN ODU or are well versed with it, please is their anyway solution or script solution for band locking? MTN is good here but because of the lack of band locking, it automatically locks to a congested tower.

Does normal sub on the sim work on the ODU?

Does anyone have any idea where I can get mtn odu in ilorin or ibadan.

I don’t understand what you mean by “normal sub.” However, converting the SIM that came with the ODU to a physical SIM has nothing to do with the subscription. It is still the same 25k plan, and converting it to a physical SIM will not affect your current subscription.

Airtel will not allow you to do normal subscription on the ODU Sim, and if you put your regular Sim with normal subscription inside the ODU, it will definitely work.

All Airtel sims should work in it. You'd need to go into the menu and select external sim for it to work.

You can sub small data if you don't want to spend big on unlimited 25k at the moment until you have enough budget to sub the ODU.

If your reason is because you want to be moving around with the sim (that is removing it and inserting in a compatible router while traveling), you should swap the esim for physical sim.
I am back home today to try see if this will work but this is what I am getting the apply button to change to the external sim is not applicable. Could it be because of the external sim I inserted because it's not a router sim is just a random Airtel sim

Omo I Dey find solution to this too, MTN good for my side o but that band it switches too during the day is very congested thereby slowing down the speed

My network now is 1 week on(Mbps), 1 week off (Kbps).

I planned to do a 3 months sub earlier but changed my mind. Thank God for Smartcash, I can easily transfer my money back to my bank.

I'll just go ahead and get a Starlink. I'm done with this nonsense.

Good for you If you can afford it bro.

Airtel is really scamming alot of subscribers in broad daylight and nothing is being done about by the telecoms regulating bodies.

Because this Mbps and Kbps thing is very intentional, it has lingered too long enough to be a problem that isn't fixable. And also why is my ODU 25k subscription being capped at 20Mbps ( no matter what time of day, no matter how good the network is, it's still the same outcome ). I read others also have the same problem.

I suffered this same thing last week. Reached out to Airtel and no one gave me any reasonable information. It was later that one of their customer service said I already exhausted my 1TB FUP.

What's funny is that I asked her what if I decide to do the three months plan and she said the FUP becomes 1.5TB for the whole three months.

I asked her what's the incentive to do the three months plan if I get only extra 500gb for the three months while paying significantly more. She had no answer.

I tried my MTN abandoned ODU and it happened that it's working. It is almost two weeks already since

"already exhausted my 1TB FUP" when after just a few days of subscription, you can start getting a max 30kbps. And then a week later, you'd get your normal speed.

Trust me, Airtel really doesn’t know how to properly fix a lot of the issues with the ODU. Many people have already gone beyond the FUP, yet their speed remains the same. Sometimes, you even renew your subscription in a new month and still don’t get anywhere close to the speed you paid for.

Honestly, I feel that statement was just a way to justify their failure, whether you believe me or not. Airtel needs to have a proper technical support line where you can speak to engineers who actually understand how the ODU works, instead of having everything handled by the regular customer service agents.

I don’t really blame the agents because they can only work with what they’ve been trained to do. The bigger problem is that Airtel doesn’t seem to have a proper escalation system for these technical issues.

And let’s be honest, where exactly is the FUP clearly stated in the terms and conditions or agreement? Capital NO.

This is an issue they still haven’t figured out, and it seems they’re not willing to invest in the right technical people to properly resolve it.

you're not wrong. It's just that I don't have the strength to be doing that back and forth with them. Before this, I have been having this issue. You can spend two days with the speed being bad and you wake up next day and it comes back to normal

Not that I can really afford it, but using Airtel cost me more overall in terms of precious productive hours. I need a plug n play internet.

I tried MTN but it didn't work out for me unfortunately. If mtn is good in your area you should give it a try.

Funny thing they're advertising this things as true unlimited with no slowdown but at the end they will always throttle people

The customer service doesn't have an idea what they're talking about. The 3 months plan is 1TB FUP monthly, that's 3TB overall. But if you exhaust per month it will be throttled (observation from a user here)

Going through this thread ,and seeing what you guys are experiencing, just to enjoy a stable and decent internet connection, I am like...WOW! All the settings and manipulations that needs to be done just to have what is, by most standards, a mediocre internet connection and experience. These companies need to be held accountable. AS I have mentioned in other threads, I have had my own issues with MTN during my visits. We need to really get past this mess in order to have progress in the country!
