MyExpression:That's the power of access but I'm surprised that people were not told who the family was. Queen Visits Nigeria | Oba Adeniji Adele of Lagos Greets Her | Major Ironsi Her Equerry | Jan. 1956 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v3abIuOxL0 The family belongs to the Lagos Royal Family. Ololade's great-grandfather, Sir Musendiku Buraimoh Adeniji-Adele II, was the highly revered Oba (King) of Lagos from 1949 to 1964. Some members of the family, such as Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, were highly influential political figures and commissioners in Lagos State and they crossed path with IBB. The Adeniji-Adele family had a significant connection to the political events of General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration, particularly through Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, the son of Oba Adeniji-Adele II. Prince Ademola became chairman of Lagos Island Local Government during Babangida’s transition programme. He became a popular political figure in Lagos and was involved in efforts to improve local transportation and other public services. The family’s political connection to Babangida’s government can be linked to the June 12 struggle after Chief M.K.O. Abiola of the Social Democratic Party was widely regarded as the winner, but Babangida annulled the election. Prince Ademola, a strong supporter of Abiola, opposed the annulment and became involved in the pro-democracy struggle. Prince Ademola was not imprisoned by Babangida’s government. He was detained later, under General Sani Abacha, for his involvement in the pro-democracy movement and his association with Abiola and NADECO. Anyway, the family was not only part of Lagos’s traditional ruling class but Prince Ademola had also been an elected politician under Babangida’s transition programme and later became an opponent of the annulment of the election. Around this time too was when they were moving the capital from Lagos to Abuja, IBB was president as he called himself in Lagos. Since the traditional institutions were strong back in those days and not as compromised as today, he definitely would know about them. For that reason, if Babangida recognized the Adeniji-Adele surname when he met Ololade Adeniji-Adele, the moment may have carried some historical significance. However, it would be speculation to say exactly what Babangida was thinking or why his attitude changed during the encounter. What is clear is that the Adeniji-Adele family’s history connected traditional Lagos, electoral politics and Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle. I don't know if I could write about some people's family this way. What do I know sef? Funny fact is that Adeniji-Adele is a bus stop on IBB bridge ![]()

ARISHEM:He was a manipulative thief/419er to most Nigerians. That is what earned him the nickname at that time. It was during the IBB years that 419 became a National industry! Tinubu, today, is rebooting the same playbook that IBB gave Nigerians. 😒😒

Emeskhalifa:Ur analysis is not always correct no one brought riches into this world those who are currently rich either inherited it from parents who started from the scratch or those that struggled from absolutely nothing to become rich. Where do u even expect an average nigerian from a humble background to see the children of dangote or elumelu to marry their paths can never cross because they are not in the same social class. Marrying a girl from a stupendous rich family as a poor man is not even advisable because it usually comes with a lot of insults. Two couples from a humble background can always become rich and successful later in life if they really plan well and are really very determined to come out of poverty we read about a UK based lady here the other day who came down to nigeria to marry an okada rider today the man is a successful CEO. |

Sleekfingers:Exactly, especially that Structural Adjustment Program (SAP), that was when the free fall of the Naira started. Before he introduced SAP,dollar was being exchanged for less than one Naira, but after taking advice from the IMF ,he introduced SAP and devalued Naira. |

And they finally recruited touts to take over the first generation of democracy in Nigeria because they knew that sane civilians will not allow the looting that took place to go unpunished. That grooming of touts is why we are where we are today with people who disregard Nigerians and will continue to steal and high Jack the rights of our people with boldness. The military left the problem behind, perhaps they will fix it someday. |

The example you are bringing is just 1 in a million, but my example? Just look around you, how many people that you knew when growing up that were building together have been able to break out of poverty? |
