They should debate it o. Let me see how Tinubu will defend his subsidy removal that is yielding no positive result. I want to watch him say more than coastal road and robbing Peters to pay Paul's salary as if 99% of the population of the country are government workers working under the government or will use that coastal road till they die ![]() See fact below and stop defending government payment of salary and coastal road blindly.

Tinubu must go, if not, Tax will make us regret. There's no single common wealth we are benefiting as Nigerian citizens, our condition is getting worse. Zero subsidy on fuel, health, transport, food, education (primary &secondary),insecurity, debt is after Nigerians life. |

I've done a thread as to why subsidy cannot come back...but in brief, the price of fuel fluctuates with the global oil price, which means that spending on subsidy could fluctuate several times within the year, sometimes surpassing the level that government budgeted for it. That means that government may be, in some circumstances, be forced to take money from other sectors to pay for subsidy for the year, or even borrow more. (That is why government does not subsidise food, or clothing...it would be a disaster). And that is why government has been telling us since 1997, that subsidy had to go. Tinubu self, if he had supported GEJ In 2012 on subsidy removal...or better still if GEJ had had an iron set of balls, by now subsidy would have been gone, and there would have been at least 3 or more refineries in addition to what we have here. |

With the way PBAT gives speeches and analyse issue in recent time, I don’t think anyone of the 3 major contenders can stand him in a public debate. Telling us that u r going to return fuel subsidy shows lack of creativity, so Atiku can’t find a way to solve Nigeria problem without taking us back. One step forward, 3 steps backward This is like a scammer throwing bait to the vulnerable. It’s all scam |

This is the sort of conversations campaigns should be built on, this fuel subsidy conversation is good for the benefit of Nigerians, there will always be a better way of doing things, it’s great Atiku brought this issue up, campaigns should be issue based, most Nigerians want this conversation around fuel subsidy |

Tinubu said fuel subsidy is bad and it’s a bad decision to return it. This administration itself after removing fuel subsidies are paying or paid subsidies on other ventures that ended up having zero impact on the population. Subsidy 1: CNG conversions and buses program. Shortly after fuel subsidy was removed by Tinubu, his administration rolled out CNG programs that aimed at addressing the effects of subsidy removal especially on transportation, this program failed woefully as the percentage of those that felt the impact is very minute when compared to those that didn’t even know it existed talk more of benefiting. Subsidy 2: Conditional cash transfers and palliative distributions; this also proved to have failed woefully. Whatever money was distributed to the “poorest of the poor” Tinubu administration identified made no difference and had no solid impact on the people. My question to Tinubu and Onanuga is this; Are they against subsidy, or don’t like the idea that government needs to subsidize fuel prices that has greater effect on the economy and people of Nigeria? |

| Re: Fuel Subsidy: Let Us Debate It In Front Of Nigerians - ADC Replies Tinubu by AMINDA: 12:52pm On Aug 21 |
Buhari paid circa 11 trillion as fuel subsidy all through the duration of his 8-year tenure. Tinubu paid 8 trillion as fuel subsidy in the first 6 months of his tenure and called it "energy security". Tinubu has outborrowed Buhari’s 8-year tenure in just 3 years of his tenure, yet, Buhari paid subsidies. These are all facts.

Where on Earth or in history has a demigod sat down with humans to debate? ADC should present their facts and figures on why subsidy should be brought back! Not hiding under the cover of a debate! So you they cannot clearly enlighten Nigeria to see reasons and only can do that in a debate? Incompetent minions. |

AMINDA:Buhari paid subsidies too and debt also rose under his regime, which, ironically is forcing the current government to borrow more because of debt servicing costs eating the revenue The subsidy removal was done to increase available revenue for spending. It would have not reduced borrowing. Only way to reduce borrowing is by taxation and also by diversifying the economy as well.(which apc has not done, which is why they have to go). Also, oil prices were very low in 2015-16 and again in 2020-22. That reduced subsidy costs at least. By 2022, they rose again, and ate most of our revenue Below is why subsidy may have had to go. Keep in mind that Nigeria's population is not static.
