Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu.

The Bayelsa State-born singer, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” made the announcement in a Facebook post titled “Public Notice” on Thursday. Ekiye described the marriage as a deeply personal journey marked by growth, experience and reflection.

According to the singer, the marriage officially ended a year ago, but he chose to make the development public only after taking time to process the transition. He did not disclose the reason for the end of the marriage.

In the statement, Ekiye said: “I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”

He added: “This marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves.”

The gospel singer’s announcement brings an end to nearly three decades of marriage, while he said he was looking ahead to a new chapter in his life.

Ekiye has been prominent in Nigeria’s gospel music scene and is known for his Niger Delta-inspired gospel music and performances.

See as celebrities now toy with divorce as if it is a poppers party stroll in a park. The sanctity of marriage is no longer respected. No self reflection on the ripple effects of divorce.

Whatever may be in between, a problem in a marriage that has lasted this long is solvable. Meanwhile what example are they setting for the current generation and how many problems have divorce solved abeg?

The older women get, the bolder they are. It's an inverse relationship. The man is looking for who will take care of him and give a damn about him while the woman is looking for final freedom. That's the paradox of growing older and relationships. Even if the man was older than her, she will get to a level where she don see you finish so there is nothing you as a man can do, you are vulnerable. She does not mind leaving, it's you the man that needs that thing she has there. It's a zero-sum game I guess because there is also the Invisible Woman Syndrome.

The irony of this is that we look at young women when they are at their most unformed and ignorant but vibrant then ignore older women just as they become truly complete and self-assured grin

Generally, men age like fine wine so if a man wants to keep up at this age, he needs to make sure he is making less mistakes in his 20s-30s so he will have less burdens to carry on in old age. No one wants that much baggage at that time. Women are done with childcare and want to enjoy life or take care of their grandchildren once in a while... What am I writing sef? I don't know anything about life grin

It is very important sometimes for christian women to all men marry second wife , maybe you did not born, the man can never take it easy with you because if the fault is from the man you will never take it easy for him either.

Instead of the man leaving you at the old age, why not encourage him to Have a second wife. Children is priceless in African marriage.

But the gospel singer didn't specify what caused their separation... adultery isn't always the main cause of separation.
