Kebbi Government Directs Creation Of Christian Matters Department by ManirBK(op): 8:25am On Aug 26
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has ordered the Ministry of Religious Affairs to create a Department of Christian Affairs, to be headed by a Christian director, in the spirit of equity and fairness.

He gave the order when the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kebbi State chapter paid him a thank-you visit.

He told the association’s members that God has put them at the helms of affairs, and they were doing their best to address all challenges facing the populace, with an emphasis on equity and fairness.

According to him, there was no justification whatsoever for the association not to have representation in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, or even to have its own ministry, as is the case in some states.
He thanked the association for their prayers for peace to reign in the state and the country. He also thanked them for their support in his re-election bid in 2027.

This is called equity – plain and simple.

If Muslims have their affairs department, Christians deserve one too. That's not favoritism; that's fairness. That's balance. That's good governance.

Governor Idris deserves applause for this move. It shows he's a leader for all Kebbi citizens – not just one group.

Well done!

Kudos to Mr Governor 👏. I've met with lots of Christians from Kebbi, particularly from Zuru.

Preach to the Muslim in the state to be tolerant. You don't need to be wasting money creating new department

Exactly! This is what good governance looks like – treating everyone fairly, regardless of faith.

When one group has had representation for years, it's only right that the other gets the same. That's not special treatment – that's equal treatment.

Governor Idris deserves credit for this. He's showing that leadership means serving all citizens, not just one religious group.

I hear you, but let me ask you this:

If preaching tolerance alone was enough to solve everything, we wouldn't need government structures for anything. Tolerance is important – yes – but it's not a substitute for institutional representation.

Muslims in Kebbi have had their own department for years. No one called that a waste of money. So why is it suddenly a waste when Christians get the same?

This isn't about preaching to anyone. It's about equity – giving both faiths the same access to government support and representation.

If Christians are expected to be tolerant, they also deserve to be heard. A department isn't about division – it's about balance.

What's the value or relevance of religion with governance?

Religion and governance are intertwined because governance is about people, and people are shaped by their faith.

Every society has values – and for many Nigerians, those values are rooted in religion. So when government ignores that, it's ignoring a fundamental part of who its citizens are.

But here's the key: Government shouldn't favor one religion over another. That's where equity comes in.

Creating a Christian Matters Department doesn't make Kebbi a "Christian state.!

There shouldn't have been anything close to bandits and terrorists if religion actually have value.

New churches and mosques are been erected daily in Nigeria yet the rate of crime have been increasing. Abeg who have they been preaching to

That's a valid observation, and honestly, it's something many people struggle with.

But let me ask you this – does the presence of hospitals mean sickness should disappear?

Of course not. Hospitals treat sickness, but they don't eliminate it entirely. In the same way, religion provides moral guidance, but it doesn't remove human free will. People still choose to do evil – regardless of how many churches or mosques are built.

The problem isn't religion itself. The problem is:

· People who claim to be religious but don't practice what they preach
· People who use religion to justify evil
· Corruption, poverty, and inequality that create conditions for crime

That said, you're right to ask: "Who have they been preaching to?"

The answer: Not enough people who actually need to hear it. Or maybe they're hearing it but choosing to ignore it.

The creation of a Christian Matters Department isn't about solving crime or banditry directly. It's about equity – ensuring that Christians in Kebbi have the same representation and access to government support as Muslims.

One step doesn't solve everything. But it's a step in the right direction.

Election is here and pressure is getting worser. This is happening just as president Tinubu congratulates hausas for Hausa day. No one has ever heard about hausa day until today. Not even the hausas in the North.

Gov Idris is very liberal and religiously tolerant like Uba Sani of kaduna... By the way do you think he can win Malami? Can Tinubu win Kebbi

Political solution, i understand many will like it.
What is Christian matter? Is it appointment or collecting money from government? Christian matter is the fear of God, doing God's will. To break it down, living and preaching righteousness, salvation of every soul, that every soul in Kebbi should know Jesus. That is Christian matter.

How a kit the traditionalist and Muslim department!

The people who cursed this country are working overtime to make sure we don’t break away from the spell.

Of all priorities, Christian department seems to be the most important at the moment.

As usually gullible Christians will be deceived. What we want is fairness and not favoritism. Cos they will ask for favours in return. Thats how terrorists operate

You have an objective perspective. I love your comments.

The problem of Nigeria in religious matters is not basically the religions we practice. It is with the religious people in Nigeria. They are religious but godless.

Thank you so much! 🙏 This comment genuinely means a lot to me.

I believe that even when people come with the intention to provoke, the best response is always calmness and clarity. Getting angry or defensive rarely changes anyone's mind – but a logical, respectful reply can make even the harshest critic pause and think.

At the end of the day, we're all here to learn from each other. Even the most provocative comments often contain a grain of truth or a valid concern worth addressing.

So thank you for noticing. It tells me that the approach is working – and that's encouraging.

Wow. 🙏 This is one of the most profound comments I've read on this thread.

You've hit the nail on the head. The problem isn't Islam. The problem isn't Christianity. The problem is people who use religion as a mask – who pray loudly but live quietly in corruption, greed, and injustice.

They are religious but godless.

They go to church or mosque every week, but their actions don't reflect the teachings. They quote scriptures to justify oppression. They build cathedrals and mega-mosques with stolen money. They preach love but practice hate.

And the saddest part? These are often the people in positions of power – making decisions that affect millions of lives.

So the question becomes:

How do we separate genuine faith from religious hypocrisy?

Thank you for this comment. It's a reminder that the conversation about religion in Nigeria needs to go deeper than just "Muslim vs Christian."

It's about heart vs hypocrisy.
