Redeemer’s Health Village unveils robotic surgery to curb medical tourism By Idowu Abdullahi Kindly share this story: Citing the need to curb medical tourism, health sector stakeholders have called for a stronger healthcare ecosystem to support the adoption of advanced surgical technologies in Nigeria. The stakeholders noted that robotic-assisted surgery could improve surgical precision, reduce blood loss, and shorten recovery time for patients undergoing complex procedures. They, however, stressed that sustaining such technology would require skilled personnel, continuous training, reliable infrastructure, and strong collaboration among healthcare institutions, government, and the private sector. The stakeholders made the call when the Redeemer’s Health Village unveiled robotic surgery services in partnership with RoboMed Global Inc., USA, to advance healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The partnership also combines robotic surgery services with a training academy to equip Nigerian professionals with the skills to perform and support advanced procedures. Redeemer’s Health Village is a faith-based 300-bed multispecialty hospital established by the Redeemed Christian Church of God. While commending RCCG leadership at the launch, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, said the addition of robotic surgery would advance healthcare services being provided by RHV. “The vision of robotic surgery that is being translated into reality today will no doubt help to save lives and add value to the country,” he said. According to him, it aligns very strongly with at least two of the four pillars of our health transformation agenda, which are to improve health outcomes and unlock the healthcare value chain. “It also resonates very strongly with our vision to reverse the dominant direction of medical tourism from outbound to inbound and save the country from scarce foreign exchange,” he said. Salako said the services introduced by RHV, which include a structured training program for surgeons in the country, would lead to appropriate certification to practice robotic surgery in a safe and controlled manner in Nigeria. “This is a commendable pathway to update the clinical skills of our surgeons for new medical technology,” he said. He urged Nigerians, particularly players in the healthcare value chain, to join hands in building “a fully functional health system, anchored on equity, affordability, and able to meet the health needs of any Nigerian at any point in time”. Also speaking, a former Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, while commending RHV for the giant leap, said robotic-assisted surgery represents another significant milestone in that journey of healthcare innovation. Represented by the First National Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Joseph Olayemi, Adeboye said that by combining surgeons’ expertise with robotic precision and fear of God, many lives would be saved. “We believe that knowledge, science and technology, when responsibly and compassionately deployed with the fear of God, are powerful instruments for preserving life and alleviating human suffering,” Olayemi said. That’s impossible! Anyone familiar with tech knows our infrastructure in Nigeria cannot handle medical surgery. It’s a big lie! I am not ready to delve into technicalities but can assure anyone who cares to know that it is a big lie and outrightly impossible! |

HacheNoire:So you don't consider your IMPOSSIBLE an imprint? Are you that negative as to not to mind what you submit? |
| Re: Redeemer’s Health Village Unveils Robotic Surgery To Curb Medical Tourism by HacheNoire: 6:56pm On Aug 25 |
HisaacPlus:Let me give you detailed clue to know why I said it is impossible. You can use any search engine of your choice. I want you to lightly research about what infrastructure supports precision robotics engineering It’s more than the hardware being deployed from US to Nigeria. There is more to it. Just do a 30 minutes research which I believe you will find and get back. |

HacheNoire:How can you say that 11 years of APC change and 4 years of Tinubu reforms have failed to provide infrastructure that supports precision robotics engineering and healthcare? What happened to your moniker? Who hacked your account ![]() |

HacheNoire:are you as a person possible, your activities on nairaland shows you are impossible. anonimi:that is just it, this comment of his just confirmed he's being supporting failure. ccollins:he is just impossible, if he tells us this will fail as result of infrastructural deficiency then it means the government he's cheering is a failure. HacheNoire:you are not just serious, I rest my case on you for now. |

HacheNoire:What is the impossibility there. If you are abreast with happenings in the health sector you will know that they are not pioneers of robotic surgery in Nigeria. I know of at least 3 centres at both Lagos and Abuja. |

So what happened to the olive oil, holy water, arm bands, crusade, fasting and prayers, all the powers and miracles of Adeboye? And most importantly all the billions in tithe, donations etc he scammed you?? So Adoboyer and his RCCG are now bringing Indian doctors to continue his scam with so called Robotic Surgery? No more healing through prayers? He now relies on robots to do the miracle? |

HacheNoire:Your allegation is outdated and a misinformation. If you are not current you can not be correct. You aren't in tune with present realities ![]() Nigeria can handle robotic surgery now but only at a few centers though infrastructure is a major challenge nationwide, the claim "it's a big lie" is no longer true. The tech is here Here’s the current reality as of 2025/2026: *1. What Nigeria DOES have right now* Nigeria has moved from "zero" to "operational" in the last 1-2 years: 1. *Lagos Prostate Clinic, Lagos* - First in West Africa to do robotic prostate cancer surgery with the *da Vinci system*. Prof Kingsley Ekwueme performed it. They’ve also done the first robotic gynaecological procedure in West Africa. 2. *Nisa Premier Hospital, Abuja* - Launched Nigeria’s first *Toumai robotic surgery platform*. NAFDAC approved it as the first in West Africa. Used for urology, gynaecology, oncology, bariatrics. 3. *Imo Robotics and Oncology Centre, Owerri* - State government + IDCL Surgicals signed a deal to establish Nigeria’s first Robotic Surgical Centre. They’ve now performed the first robotic surgery there and describe it as "fully operational" The goal is to reduce medical tourism and build local capacity through: 1. *Public-Private Partnerships*: Imo State deal combines government + Heartland Hospital + diaspora surgeon Prof Ekwueme. 2. *Training*: RoboMed Academy to train surgeons, engineers, nurses. Nisa–Garki already trains 98 resident doctors. 3. *Expansion plans*: RoboMed announced plans to partner with more hospitals across Nigeria. We have 3-4 centers doing it with world-class precision — smaller incisions, less blood loss, faster recovery. Redeemer is bringing an additional and this is highly commended Doctors involved say it directly: "This is real progress for healthcare in Nigeria... prepares the next generation of African surgeons" |

HisaacPlus:“The vision of robotic surgery that is being translated into reality today will no doubt help to save lives and add value to the country,” In my opinion, the bolden should be the main focus of this hospital, not curbing medical tourism. People are entitled to receive health care wherever they deem fit, so if this hospital is very functional, it will be another option added. |

HacheNoire:You are right but why I support these faith - based institutions is that they provide what the government says is unachievable. For instance, light and water run 24/7 in Canaan Land of Oyedepo as well as The Redemption City of RCCG. You need only two years to run a doctorate degree in Covenant University according to international standard otherwise, the school management would query the student and the supervisor. I have a friend that started a PhD in government universities, you spent aeons to finish it a times with material and body. How can we say to have an MRI machine is a problem in Nigerian teaching hospitals at this time? The money to buy these things is nothing compared to the extravagant lifestyles of our political office holders. I think this move can inspire teaching hospitals to acquire theirs. |

Iwin2:All you mentioned are hypes! Have you seen it? Can you show us a video of precision surgery. Ring done by robots? Politicians just hyping what’s not. By the time you investigate, it is just one lane tech or procedure they calling robotic. You know the easiest part of such tech? It is deploying it to site. So it can be there but can’t function. I repeat, it does not exist in Nigeria! |
| Re: Redeemer’s Health Village Unveils Robotic Surgery To Curb Medical Tourism by Clean2016: 8:34am On Aug 26 |
HacheNoire:It's either you are outdated or properly misinformed or outrightly ill-informed Robotic operation is existing in Nigeria. Google and AI even confirmed it in several hospitals. Just Google search it with needed infrastructure that supports it Kindly research more or visit lists hospitals to confirm. |
