not sure pace is what xabi uses for both his midfield pairings, we have caicedo for that valverde and palacio role and we have lavia a natural replacement and fit for xabi's usually pairing. Lavia no fast like that, see how Enzo played he sat deep more times. Wharton seems the natural alternative to xhaka we were chasing earlier and alternative to lavia in case of injury, (Henderson)

Is he though? While the eye test might give an illusion of not being rapid or explosive, the data suggests otherwise.

He's in the 99th percentile of PL midfielders with successful take-ons, even though volume of take-ons are not on the level of say a Kimmich. That's mostly a reflection of the profile of the team he plays for.

He also attempts more through passes per 90 than Guimares, Caicedo, Rice and Mainoo.

In the PL, these are crucial stats from a deep-lying midfielder. You will not get the time on the ball to accrue such numbers if one was slow.

I think he's not rapid or explosive, but he's intelligent, composed, quick at execution and has an elite level ability of space interpretation and exploitation.

Good luck to Liam delap. Never lazy, didn't stop running, but just wasn't good enough for us in a season of turmoil where we had 3 managers and finished 10th. £50m is crazy though. Transfer market is overpriced.

Never liked or rated Enzo for us. We've seen better players for us over the years. We're making profit on him so it's okay! He should F off. In 3 years at city he'll still be crying to madrid or Barca to sign him.
