Nigerian nurse gives details about the doctors’ strike in Anambra State during Peter Obi’s tenure as governor and how the state didn't notice they were on strike because all the mission hospitals are well equipped and active.

“Yes, doctors went on strike for 13 months under Peter Obi as governor. I was in school then as a student nurse, so I witnessed what happened.

Back then, the Federal Government introduced a salary structure called CONMESS and CONHESS. The FG said state governments should implement it based on the resources available to them.

In Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi said he would implement 60% of the agreement, but the state doctors rejected it and insisted on 100%.»

At the time, he said the healthcare and education sectors were in shambles, so he focused on improving mission schools, medical facilities and dental services, while equipping them to standard.

He also said there were no reports of mass casualties during the strike, meaning the absence of the doctors was not felt as much because mission hospitals had taken over healthcare services across the state.”

Just listen to yourself. Obi used the state money to improve facilities in the Catholic hospitals while the government hospitals were under lock and keys for 13 months.

Obi supposed to refund the money so spent on private institutions. That also explains why he took state money to his bank Fidelity Bank to shore up Depositors Fund and save the Bank from CBN sanctions.

No wonder the state Assembly impeached him. If you ask obi now, he'll tell you he didn't do anything wrong and his gullible supporters will start insulting their father's age mate.

He can't try that at federal level. Who born him.

Here's The Summary You Need:

FG under Yar'Adua implemented a new salary structure for healthcare workers. States had flexibility on full or partial implementation.

Peter Obi chose partial implementation, so that he could invest more funds on improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

Doctors disagreed. They wanted a 100% salary increase for themselves.

PO agreed to a 60% salary increase, so the state could invest more money on healthcare infrastructure and services. Doctors insisted on a 100% salary increase and went on strike.

PO couldn't do both at the same time, so he prioritized investing in infrastructure and service delivery, because the healthcare system was crumbling. He proceeded to renovate and upgrade facilities of mission-owned hospitals, schools of nursing, schools of midwifery, dental clinics, and schools of health technology. The schools got their accreditations within this period, and mission-owned hospitals were functioning effectively.

This is why, despite the 13-Month strike, healthcare service delivery in Anambra continued to function normally.

Excellent job. This is a leader whose number 1 priority is the people.
I would rather quit than responding to low people who lacked knowledge of governance.

Very interesting perspective. I also had first hand knowledge about Peter Obi when he was Governor having resided in his hometown, Agulu, in 2008 / 2009. There were a number of erosion ravaged sites that he pretty much abandoned, and locals kept complaining that his road construction projects generally did not stand the test of time, especially when compared with similar projects executed by his predecessor, Dr. Chris Ngige. Education was also abysmal, as he relied heavily on youth service corp members at some point to teach in secondary schools. Overall he seemed mediocre as a leader when he governed Anambra, but was better than Chinwoke Mbadinuju who probably took the prize for worst Governor in the entire south east from 1999 to date. I am all for an Igbo President, if at all we want to be fair and inclusive in this country, but Ndigbo must give us their best if that is to happen. Really surprised how Peter Obi was rebranded suddenly in 2023 as the best thing that ever happened since the invention of sliced bread. If I was to choose, a charismatic and strong leader like Dr. Chuba Okadigbo would have been a good pick.

What manner of rubbish is this from obidients this is the highest level of hypocrisy ever witnessed in this country.

Obi couldn't fulfil the agreements reached with the health workers and he had to make then go on strike fo 14 whole months, same way he irresponsibly refused to hold LG elections for 8 yrs and this obidients are trying to prep up the devil to look like an angel.

Can sanwo olu try that or zulum or mbah in enugu and obidients wouldn't be calling for their heads on a spike, same obidients are attacking tinubu for making it possible for govs to be able to pay workers salaries and pensions as at when due but obi can be excused for owing same workers salaries for years.

Another ludicrous airheaded thinking is making the retarded argument that mission hospitals were well equipped by obi while the state owned one's laid comatose, are mission hospitals the responsibility of the state govt......how many Muslim hospitals were amongst those obi equipped and funded under his calamitous policy of begrudging the doctors.

Are obidients these slow?
Govt functions to reduce untimely deaths of citizens through health institutions.
That's exactly what Peter Obi did through resort to mission hospitals

Your principal has presided over the deaths of tens of thousands of citizens through his unguarded economic reforms that he never considered possible impact on the citizens.

Stop hiding behind a finger. What about the teachers that went on strike for 13 months? Peter Obi is nothing but a packaged fraud. Ndi Anambrans rained curses on him throughout his 8 years as governor. The Internet never forgets.

It is easy to identify brainwashed individuals who can't think for themselves. He is equipping hospitals at the expense of the service providers and that's why strike should get to 1 year and a month. Sick people everywhere who can't reason anymore and that's why the politicians keep getting away with every rubbish.

The solution to Nigeria's problem still remains looking beyond all recycled politicians.

Mission hospitals that belong to the missions? Private hospital? Definitely Catholic Church hospitals?

So when public schools and universities go on strike the governor should abandon them and start equipping mission schools and universities abi? Which governor will do this?

This thing that is said here does it make sense to you. So when NMA go on strike as a result of disagreement with the FG then FG should abandon them and start equipping mission hospitals?

When ASU goes on strike then FG should abandon them and start equipping mission universities? When unity schools in Nigeria go on strike FG should abandon them and start equipping mission secondary schools?

hypocrisy kill you there , diverting public fund to private business (hospital) is impeachable offense. What about poor that cannot afford private hospitals? corruption in health sector was justification for his action. If he cannot control corruption in a state health sector, how can such person handle a country like Nigeria with all sections messed up with corruption

Bola Tinubu made his public declaration instructing Governor Babatunde Fashola to sack the striking doctors on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos.
The declaration was made during an official Lagos State Government stakeholder meeting with Christian religious leaders.

I’m sure she was cussing him out at that time. Even the doctors who were on strike are now Obidients likewise the numerous monikers that insulted him here and on other social media platforms.

If Peter Obi was contesting against two other men from same tribe as him, nobody would be Obidient today, yet the Yorubas are the tribalists.

13 months strike is proof that the then governor isn’t a good negotiator which is proof of a bad leader.
He isn't a good leader because he refused to compromise and negotiate a bad deal for anambra state?
