Cyberattack Hits Three UK Airports, Exposes Data Of 8.7 Million Customers by bestofnollywood(op): 6:18am On Aug 28
A cyberattack has targeted three major airports in the United Kingdom, compromising personal information belonging to about 8.7 million customers, according to Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the operator of the affected airports.

The affected airports are Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport.

MAG said an unauthorised third party gained access to systems containing customers’ email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes. Much of the compromised information was linked to airport Wi-Fi registrations, car park bookings, lounge reservations and Fast Track services. (The Guardian)

The company said it immediately contained the incident and brought in specialist advisers to investigate the breach and strengthen the protection of its customers and systems. Relevant authorities have also been notified.

MAG stressed that customers’ banking and payment information was not compromised, as such details were not stored on the affected systems. It also said the cyberattack had no impact on passenger safety, aviation security or airport operations.

Customers, particularly those whose email addresses and phone numbers were accessed, have been advised to remain vigilant against suspicious emails, phone calls or text messages purporting to come from the airports.

MAG apologised for the incident and said investigations were continuing to determine its full extent. The three airports handled more than 66 million passengers in the previous year, underscoring the scale of the potential data exposure.

Interesting 😎🤔

Attackers exploit technical weaknesses, human errors, and digital dependencies to achieve financial, political, or personal goals.

Laughable.

Who can't experience attack? If there's a pencil, there will be an eraser to clean.

I hope you were aware of how much was stolen in a Nigerian bank some days back, through cyber attack.

Your username is supposed to be akprata, ikoko, or mbejaga.
Even an amateur hacker will not waste their time trying to hack Nigeria airport system.
How many high net-worth individuals' information are they going to extract from there?
You probably don't know how much work they put into hacking those multi layered security systems.

Here is a cool fact:

Passenger information during check-in for international flights are sometimes written on with pen on a paper!

If properly investigated it might be human error that led to the attack. Human link is the weakest amongst all other forms of security or let's say in the chain of Cybersecurity. Very prone to mistake and error!

Re: Cyberattack Hits Three UK Airports, Exposes Data Of 8.7 Million Customers by TheStoriesOfMan: 8:46am On Aug 28
I believe it was a self databreach i.e localized data breach. This can only be done from internal systems, or from external systems if the hacker involved knows the ins and outs of the system, plus have sophisticated hardware.

Nevertheless, the breach will be contained in no time.

For those talking about the Nigerian bank breach, it took hours for critical systemsto detect and contain.

To be honest, Nigerian banks and government corporations needs advanced internal and external security programmers. This is the dearth that needs to be occupied by professionals, otherwise this breaches will continue.

Here is a cool fact:

Passenger information during check-in for domestic flights are most times written on with pen on a paper and this paper with passenger information is recycled to Akara and kuli kuli sellers!
