The Nigerian professional football league starts today with shooting stars sports club of Ibadan taking on Inter Lagos . The League now has a new sponsor for the first time in ten years signing a 7.9 million dollars deal with Euromatch. My darling club Bendel insurance takes on Warri Wolves on Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

All in one year: English Premiere League two or three times, FA Cup, Coppa Italia, Euro Cup, UEFA Cup, AFCON, Community Shield, MLS, Spanish La Liga, Nigerian Professional League, and sometimes the Olympics. There are other soccer competitions which I can’t remember. Children on Nairaland consume all of them religiously. Their broadcasts do not affect the country in any way. Somehow, when BBNaija starts, the world suddenly goes haywire. Children claim politicians use it to distract the masses. All those hours wasted watching soccer weren’t enough distraction? I watch. |

It's a useless league... You hardly win away match... |
| Re: The Nigerian Professional Football League Starts Today by anonimi: 7:29am On Aug 28 |
Amalekki:Shooting Stars ignited the rivalry and I hope we can win the game, otherwise the dragging and banter will be too much from the Lagos upstarts.

farouk2much:You have not been attentive to the league. We now have several away wins currently. Rangers of Enugu won away at Ikorodu City on the final day to clinch the league trophy. Go to the stadium and watch a live match and you will be impressed. |

It's so nice to see that the league now has sponsors this season and a lot of teams now have shirt sponsors. Slow and steady growth, with time we will start competing shoulder to shoulder with top clubs on the continent. Go sporting Lagos, go grab them 3 points! Lagos teams are here to dominate! |

I think president should not only investigate and review NFF board members, but entire football power house in Nigeria, reason why Nigeria league refuses to grow over the year still not clear to me. In Caf leagues, Nigeria's clubs would be struggling to make ordinary group stage in both champion and confederation, also in Caf tournaments, Nigeria will not be featured among the officials(refree). Yet we claimed to be power house in Africa. |

free2ryhme:As a Nigerian, what are you doing to bring it back to life. Is it by being an arm chair critic? Play your own part and support and you may be surprised your idea can be used to revolutionise the league .shalom. |

guobe:Do you know that it was refusal to upgrade and standardIze football in nigeria that made this generation of young Nigerians flow to support foreign football banter in other countries. What ideas did they not get since NFA not get before it became NFF that they have refused to grow? Did you know that there was time between 2008-2010 MTN wanted to sponsor the local league and the idea was destroyed by people bent on seeing it goes to the other "telecom from nigeria" and the voodoo practices in glass house discouraged people of value from getting involved in it. If i reveal things here you go fear |
| Re: The Nigerian Professional Football League Starts Today by guobe(op): 8:37am On Aug 28 |
free2ryhme:Yes I an aware of the ills in the NFF but we can't give up on them as it is a source of livelihood for several youths. We will continue to put pressure till we finally get it right. |
| Re: The Nigerian Professional Football League Starts Today by free2ryhme: 8:41am On Aug 28 |
guobe:Which youth?. They have destroyed anything relating to youth survival. Make every man hold the sons and daughters to get skills and competence to their own benefit. You can continue to put pressure. If you know what I know about NFA even when it was NFF especially each state coordinators you will not bother yourself about those wicked souls that have destroyed opportunities for local talents They will identify with you by day betray you by night Go ask davidson owumi |
