Nice one, we're just beginning. It's a very big deal for our economy, Nigeria is on the rise. FTSE Russell, MSCI and S&P Dow Jones Indices classify equity markets for international investors. Their three familiar tiers are: 1. Developed Market 2. Emerging Market 3. Frontier Market There is also a fourth category used when a market cannot appropriately sit in those investable universes: Standalone / Unclassified, depending on the provider. For Nigeria, 1980s → Developing economy / small capital market ↓ 1990s → Emerging/frontier-type market developing ↓ 2000s → Frontier market ↓ 2010s → Strong frontier-market position, with hopes of emerging-market promotion ↓ 2020–23 → Serious deterioration in international market accessibility ↓ 2023–24 → MSCI & S&P move Nigeria out of Frontier into Standalone ↓ 2023–26 → FTSE moves Nigeria to Unclassified ↓ September 2026 → FTSE returns Nigeria to Frontier This clearly shows we're back on the progress ladder. Things are getting better, not worse. By September 2014, Nigeria was firmly classified by FTSE as a Frontier Market. FTSE's 2014 classification table places Nigeria among Frontier markets alongside countries such as Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius, Qatar, Romania and Vietnam. In 2016, FTSE put Nigeria on a watch list concerning its status as a Frontier market. By 2017, FTSE decided to retain Nigeria as a Frontier market rather than move it out of the classification. Foreign investors don't just care about whether Nigerian companies are profitable. They need to be able to: invest → buy shares → sell shares → convert naira → obtain foreign currency → repatriate their money. When that mechanism becomes unreliable, the country's investability rating deteriorates. Nigeria's foreign-exchange liquidity and capital-repatriation problems became particularly serious from around 2020 onward. Foreign investors were having difficulty repatriating capital and that it had consequently suspended certain index-related actions on Nigerian stocks. In September 2025, FTSE put Nigeria on its watch list for possible restoration to Frontier status because the FX situation had improved sufficiently to meet its Frontier-market requirements. Then in April 2026, FTSE officially announced: Nigeria from Unclassified to Frontier. The change is scheduled to become effective 21 September 2026. FTSE says Nigeria now meets the five FTSE Quality of Markets criteria required for Frontier status, following improvements in FX queues and the ability of international institutional investors to repatriate capital. This is like a huge signal. Nigeria is reopening a major financial highway to international capital. More foreign investment can come into Nigerian companies. This can mean more demand for shares of Nigerian companies such as banks, telecoms, consumer companies and industrial firms. More demand brings potentially higher share valuations, and then companies can raise capital more cheaply. Suppose a Nigerian company wants to raise ₦100 billion. If international investors regard Nigeria as difficult or risky to access, the company has to offer a much higher expected return to attract investors. But if international investors become more comfortable with the market, the cost of equity capital can fall. That makes it easier for companies to expand factories, build telecommunications infrastructure, finance technology, acquire businesses, create jobs, and expand across Africa. It's why folks like us get inconvenient with opposition spoiling Nigeria or scaring foreigners from Nigeria. It's shooting the country in the foot, self-destruction. It's easier to destroy than build. But when we talk, they call us evil, paid, devil and whatever other name. Shooting Nigeria in the foot hurts us all, not just politicians or some political party. This beautiful development can help Nigeria attract long-term institutional investors. We're talking about institutions such as pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, mutual funds, ETFs, insurance companies, asset managers, university/endowment funds. Many of these institutions don't simply decide, "Nigeria looks interesting; let's buy Nigerian stocks." They operate within investment mandates and benchmark rules. If Nigeria is excluded from an investable index, a fund tracking that index may have little or no reason—or sometimes the mandate—to hold Nigerian securities. Getting back into the FTSE Frontier universe puts Nigeria back on the radar. It can improve liquidity on the Nigerian Exchange. This is particularly important. With additional FX supply, we strengthen the naira indirectly due to large and persistent inflow on the private side. For the average Nigerian, more international investment leads to more capital available to Nigerian companies, which leads to business expansion and investment. This brings more production + employment, which will cause higher tax revenues and economic activity, and then potentially higher incomes and living standards for the average Nigerian ready to work and tap from the opportunities. In church, we'd call it open door/breakthrough. The real prize is what Nigeria does after the door opens. |

Okay. Several Africans who are not Nigerians ( also other races), also want to invest in Nigeria ( equities, mutual funds, fixed deposits etc) but the main criteria is getting a residence permit first for which the information( steps on this) on this is vague( Ministry of Interiors and Information/ Orientation should work harder on this).... Besides this, it seems expensive to maintain. We really need a visa system that is more welcoming to investors whether they choose to stay or stay and return at interval months or years. |

Even if e later enter negative, I go still leave am BECAUSE the LOSS becomes REAL the moment I liquidate. it's reason one shouldn't put all eggs in a single basket + know what you doing or at least have idea.
