As much as i love the concept of Polystyrene for pop design because it is lighter, cheaper, faster, tidier and you can achieve the same designs with casted pop, the truth is that they are not water resistant.

This is a picture of mine. There was a leakage from the roof at the time, so it seeped through the Polystyrene pop and kept dropping to the floor until i had the roof fixed

But i do think it is actually a good thing because you will see the leakage and take action, and once you resolve it, the seepage point dries off and you wont even know it was there before. I believe this is unline the casted pop that will retain the water until it begins to buckle/cave in under the weight of the water

Using floating switch could have solve the problem for you but my concern now is that having two tanks in different locations. How do you want control the water using floating switch. The floating switch will only control one tank.

Of course polystyrene is not water proof,what I meant by water resistant is that, it doesn't retain water .

You can use both floating switch and floating valve. you connect the floating valve to the main tank receiving the water from the borehole, connect the floating switch to the second tank.
