One of the traits of successful men is their ability to go for whatever they want without hesitation. They have understood the principles of life so well. They know that people will always talk about their actions or inactions. Since life is short, why bother too much about public perception?

This appears to be the ideology of a popular Lagos-based relationship coach, author, and senior pastor of David’s Christian Centre who has done fantastically well for himself. By all standards, Pastor K, as he is fondly called, is a billionaire.


Pastor Kingsley has been in the eye of the storm over the years courtesy of his relationship views and advice. As a relationship coach, many of his unfiltered teachings spark viral gender-role debates online.

He has repeatedly spoken out against the culture of women expecting potential partners to pay for their lifestyle (bills, hair, maintenance) during the dating phase, arguing that courtship should focus on character and compatibility over financial transactions.

His traditional biblical stance on submission in marriage and headship often clashes with contemporary egalitarian and feminist perspectives, leading to ongoing social media criticism.

Additionally, he sparked backlash by advising women not to ignore men who reach out to them and suggesting they give receptive suitors a chance rather than holding out exclusively for their ideal preference.

These storms on relationship advice have been mild and local. Since the year 2026, Pastor Kingsley has been up to bigger challenges.

Getting a 50th Birthday Tattoo

Pastor Kingsley posted a video showing him getting a tattoo of the Roman numerals for John 3:16 (III:XVI). The act triggered backlash from conservative Christian circles who cited Old Testament prohibitions (such as Leviticus 19:28). Okonkwo responded forcefully, stating that no Scripture explicitly forbids tattoos for Christians under Grace, drawing parallels to how hair extensions, makeup, and denim jeans were once viewed as sinful by traditional churches. Further controversy arose when he dismissed criticism from younger ministers, stating there is "ranking in the Spirit" and that junior preachers were unqualified to judge his evangelical methods.

The ₦700,000 Matchmaking Platform Debate

Critics accused him of commercialising the search for love through his Christian matchmaking platform, Mentor to Marry. The controversy intensified because the platform's high-tier membership costs (up to ₦700,000) directly contradicted his previous public posts lamenting how relationships in Nigeria had become heavily "commercialised." Critics argued that setting such steep pricing created a financial barrier to finding a "godly spouse," while defenders maintained he was charging for legitimate professional counselling and private matchmaking services.

The matchmaking platform is the latest storm, and the positive is that he has managed the backlash better than the tattoo one. A couple of years back, Nigerian blogger Stella Dimorkokus used her platform to link up singles for free. Another influencer, Joro Olumofin, also offered a similar pro bono service before he started charging as low as N10,000 for the service. It is not clear if his price has been inflated. Lege Miami, a Yoruba actor, appears to be heavily milking the Nigerian relationship market as he rakes in money through his match-making exercise.

Where does Pastor Kingsley go from here? Will he abort the matchmaking project or unveil another controversial plot? Only time will tell.
