Recently, the media has been awash with sponsored reports and headlines claiming that the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has released so-called "criminal records" of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to a U.S. judge, Honourable Howell Beryl, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

These reports have since been amplified on social and traditional media by the President's political opponents, who have further asserted that the President is fighting to keep those records from the public.

These claims are untrue, and these individuals and their surrogates are using clever semantics to deceive the public.

Unlike some of these groups and media organisations, I physically went to Chicago, Illinois, between September 18 and 20, 2022, to investigate these claims and found them to be fallacious.

President Bola Tinubu has no criminal record in the United States, Nigeria, or anywhere else, and the FBI has not provided any criminal record on the President to anyone because none exists.

Yes, FBI records may contain his name, but they are NOT criminal records.

Please fact-check me: The US FBI regularly keeps billions of non-criminal files on American citizens and residents, as well as foreign nationals, through the FBI's Central Records Systems and Next Generation Identification database.

For example, if you have ever applied for a US visa, the FBI likely has a record on you. This is because the FBI conducts MANDATORY background screenings on behalf of the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security on US visa applicants.

Thus, as a US citizen or resident, or even as a foreign national, if your name is run through the FBI databases, it is likely to bring up hundreds of pages of records. This does not mean that the records are criminal. In most cases, they will be benign.

Such records may include personal biometric, biographical, and financial information, such as fingerprints, DNA, bank statements, and other private records.

Would you, as an individual, want your private records released to your political opponents, even if they were non-criminal?

However, on the specific issue of criminal records, the Nigerian public should be made aware that the FBI has itself stated that it has no CRIMINAL records involving Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

This was made known as far back as Monday, February 3, 2003, when the then Governor of Lagos, Mr Bola Tinubu, was having political issues with the then incumbent President. The then Inspector General of Police, Mr Tafa Balogun, wrote to the Embassy of the United States, seeking information on any FBI criminal records involving Mr Bola Tinubu, and got a response back the next day from them giving the all clear as regards any criminal records involving Mr Tinubu.

This was consistent with my findings when I visited Chicago in 2022, as a member of the opposition, to establish the truth about then-Presidential candidate Bola Tinubu's academic and other records.

Nigerians may want to find attached the response from the Embassy of the United States absolving the then-Governor of Lagos of any wrongdoing or criminal conduct, charges, or activity whatsoever.

1. Someone hired a lobbying firm to embarrass Tinubu in the US. The lobbying firm is rehashing old unverified stories to justify the contract.

2. This matter was discussed extensively on Arise News by David Hundeyin who insisted there must have been "some sort of criminal conviction" on Tinubu due to the matter. The record of the criminal conviction is yet to be produced by Hundeyin.

3. David Hundeyin told Atiku that Tinubu never graduated from Chicago State University (CSU). When Atiku invested huge sums if dollars to verify that claim, the registrar of CSU confirmed Tinubu graduated and showed that the replacement certificate Tinubu presented to INEC looked exactly like what certificates looked like in the 90s. The registrar said they could not possibly print the replacement certificate in the same format as the 1979 certificate. Atiku then started anotger ludicrous claim that it was a woman who had graduated, not Tinubu. A woman, whose name and picture was presented as Bola A. Tinubu, said she was not the one.

4. If you search your own name on Google and you have a digital footprint, google will return hits. Similarly, the FBI has records on everyone who either has dealings in the US or a high profile international figure. How do you think they found Hushpuppi? They have records on Tinubu's addresses in the US, medicals, bank accounts, work history, number of children, his associates, and so on. The FBI is also aware that Atiku needs the records for political advantage. They won't release those records. Infact, only a corrupt law enforcement agency would release records of someone else to a political opponent.

So why is Tinubu fighting tooth & nail to prevent the records from being released if they are harmless? He also fought to hide his CSU academic records that showed he went to a non-existent Govt College Lagos in 1970.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, has distanced the All Progressive Congress presidential candidata, Bola Tinubu, from being a drug baron who was involved in the traffic of narcotics in the United States.

Keyamo, who also doubles as APC Presidential Campaign spokesperson, noted that the former governor of Lagos State only shared a block of flat with drug barons about 30 years ago in the US.

His reaction is coming following documents of a Chicago District Court indicting and convicting Tinubu of drug dealings and money laundering in 1993.

The document which emerged online two days ago, described APC standard-bearer as a drug baron, adding that Tinubu entered a plea bargain, leading to the forfeiture of his assets to US authorities in 1993

It was also pointed out that Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460, 000 dollars in his bank account at First Heritage Bank to the US government.

Speaking on Wednesday on Channels TV, Mr Keyamo dismissed such claims, insisting that Tinubu was linked to drug peddlers who were his neighbours.

He said: “What happened was that Tinubu went to open an account. The address which he used in opening the account was the address used by these people. I think some blocks of flats. Maybe, he was happy to be in that block of flats too.

“So, they now link it that the other people they were investigating for narcotics are in the same address used by Asiwaju to open that account.’’

The most funny thing is that the same group of people who were seriously demanding to know the health condition of former president Umaru Yardua, even when PDP and the family refused to disclose it.
