I remember when some colleagues came from Lagos to Ilorin for a program. They visited the home built by their colleague who was employed same day with them, same salary and all. But because it is way easier to get a good location and land in Kwara he did and had built his beautiful home. All those in Lagos were still renting.

I know of someone who temporarily moved from Lagos to Nasarawa.
A few months later, he came back to Lagos and realized that he had been living his best life in Nasarawa (cost of living and all), he went back (to Nasarawa) and never looked back.

If not for insecurity, Jos, Plateau state is a good place to explore.
I agree with you, as a matter of fact, food & cost of living is generally cheap in the whole Northern region of Nigeria

I am talking from someone who was born in the north, schooled & worked briefly in the north, visited other northern cities as well but Boko haram and the useless Islamic terrorists & extremism has turned Northern Nigeria to a Slaughter slab, backed by the wicked northern elites and the confused state government/ Federal government as well, otherwise, Northern Nigeria is l think one of the best places to live minus insecurity and banditry oooooo sad

This is why we need a secure, working country. A country where we can travel and go on vacations within Nigeria instead of outside.

Nigerians shouldn't be receiving insults and chased away from all over Africa and beyond when everything we need to live comfortably is right here.

This is a country people should be begging to travel to, not running away from

But why are the northerners coming here(south) to live!

Abi are you not seeing dem in ur area! Some drive okada, keke, shoemaker, sell fruits, sell foodstuff at junctions or in the market!

This is why Northern Nigeria should be safe. It will be a haven for many southern Nigerians who cannot keep or aren't interested in the Uber-competitive nature of the south.

Again, another example to illustrate that Nigeria goes beyond Lagos, PH and Abuja. Ndi reddit/Nigeria should, hopefully, learn a thing or two.

Stop deceiving yourself - the quality of education can never be the same - the same North that you rarely see people excel in academics? Dey play!

Besides, the quality of humans you mingle and interact with can never be the same.

Let's not even talk about insecurity.
Opportunities are extremely unequal, and I can go on and on. Cities are not expensive for the sake of being expensive.
Except at specialist elite schools, the quality of education is largely the same nationwide. Is it the south where sex for grades is rife? How many times have we read that northern lecturers cajoled their female students to sleep with them for better grades? How many times have we read cases of ritual killings in northern Nigeria? How many cases of yahoo yahoo go on in the north?

The quality of humans depends on one's circle. Does Warri sound like a place with high quality human beings?

Lagos is overrated, right? No wonder your brothers and sisters gush there every blessed day to find solution to their livelihood problem.
Why don't they stay at upper iweka and the rest part of Anambra to make it in life, why Lagos? Sorry, you don't have enough land space that can convey them, right?

E gbadun rara.

People wey pass you pass. There's nothing you can do about it, so take solo.

The mariangeles intentionally inserted the Lagos diss.

She also knows someone who preferred South East Asian prison to Osun State.

Don't mind them. Lagos is the worst and overrated but they will sell theirmaales just to even visit

Most good and comfortable places in Nigeria to relocate to suffer from poor marketing
It should suffer that poor marketing so people don't cast the update. Once people in big southern cities understand this update they will flood these northern states and that will have a ripple effect on the cost of living and prices of things in these states.

So glad to see businesses bouncing back! We're winning the fight against insecurity step by step. We aren't fully there yet, but we'll get there a lot sooner than the enemy thinks. Progress is happening.

Nigeria is a diverse country like any other. And most people will agree that living in New York is not the same as living in New Mexico. Same difference with London and Luton, Toronto and Thunder Bay. There is always a difference between a big city and a small city especially in the quality of life.

Despite the multitude of economic opportunities that are concentrated in key cities, the cost of living is almost up to par. And for Nigeria, another elephant in the room - insecurity.

At the end, everyone should prioritise what works for them at each period.

No it is not. Having visited here since childhood, we have seen worse times.. lived here for the past year now and I can really feel the change in the air. Seeing businesses bounce back is proof that we are winning this fight against insecurity. We’ll get there sooner than they think! Areas they might be a bit worried about is Jos north but good governance is addressing this. Come down south

Bauch, Jos and nasarawa are very cool and calm places to stay. Peace of mind go finish you.

I understand your point. I think if you don't have a good job or a healthy trade, poverty could kill a person in the north faster than insecurity.

This is same thing I have been preaching daily here on Nairaland.
Northern Nigeria is the best place to stay base on standard of living.
Food is cheap, House rent affordable,

Dear Nairaland Life don't start and end in Lagos or in the entire South, Nigeria is so big that people still pay 200K for 2 bedroom flat with running water and constant light. In fact the population of none indigenes I see in some Northern state mostly from the South is alarming.

Note: Majority of the North are not affected with insecurities, only few pockets but as I said we all keep quiet to say the truth because we hate APC.

May God help us
Actually, Nairaland is better. The worst are reddit/Nigeria and TwitterNG where they believe the country begins in Lagos and ends up at Abuja.

Standard of living in Bauchi is not the same as that of PH. You cant compare a city with just food, education and rents, business nkor, marketability etc
You meant cost of living. Standard of living can be the same everywhere. Standard of living is dependent on the amenities and quality of life one has in a place. Cost of living is general costs it takes to live in that place. London has a higher cost of living compared to Kuala Lumpur, but the standard of living can be the same.

In Lagos and PH, almost everyone is a criminal of some sort. From the agbero in the park to the landlords, government agents, market women. Everybody is a thief.

I stayed in Lagos for 4 years, they increased house rent every year for two rooms(300k-500k). The noise and the enemities of neighborhoods....etc

I relocated to Gombe, paying 300k for 3 bedroom flat. The peace, the quiet neighborhood, the simplicity of life etc

If you are tired of Lagos or PH, Relocate this axis. The insecurity is over reported.

Food business...easy to do. Moving grains from north to south is very profitable.

Don't keep suffering because of Lagos Syndrome
Insecurity over-reported? I don’t think you know what you are saying.

all i will say is there has been an exodus of northern middle class to lagos over the past 15 years.

so much so that private schools have now been pressured into allowing girls to wear hijab [in the end money talks]

the problem with living outside lagos comes up when your purchase options are severely limited
what they see in traffic in lagos is what you will see in some high end stores at ridiculous markup
the obvious fakes you reject in lagos are often the only game in town

isps like swift, fibreone, spectranet are not available - so if you want to download call of duty you are paying mtn for 100gb+ data

I recently paid a visit to a cousin in Ilorin and realize that the 2 bedroom apartment they got at ₦400,000 goes for nothing less than ₦1.8m in Lagos State.
Even more than that bro. The expensiveness of living in all this pronounced cities makes it difficult for people to save, plan and accomplish.
