Building collapses in Abuja hours after FCTA sealing

A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, barely hours after the Development Control Department in the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA sealed the structure and directed occupants to vacate the premises.

The incident, which occurred around 8pm on Monday, has triggered a rescue operation involving men of the Federal Fire Service and other emergency responders who were on ground battling to reach anyone trapped in the rubble.

Three ambulances were stationed at the scene as emergency responders work to ensure prompt evacuation of any casualties that may be found in the debris.

Details of what led to the collapse remained sketchy as of the time of this report, but the development has again drawn attention to the safety of ageing and distressed buildings within the city, particularly structures that had earlier been flagged by regulatory authorities.

Efforts by rescue operatives were still ongoing as at press time.

It is well.

It should have been demolished before now since it has been marked.

That’s how the structure Apc is building will collapse

I am sure the builder was one of those "Real Estate Group of Companies" award-receiving boys who built it.

Yeah, Wuse is full of old buildings of dodgy quality, a good number built by civil servants in the old days of 'conquer and partition' of Africa Abuja....

Hope no casualty?
will the owner allow it collapse, the Land is gone!

The original owner is probably late and the new owner decided to 'renovate and occuoy' instead of tearing it down and seeking new devplans.

So sad. Asides strutural integrity, the rains might have a hand

Some buildings in Nigeria are on the verge of collapsing.
All it takes is the required vibration and moving of heavy equipments to that building.

Most buildings in Nigeria hardly go through the required tests from approved agencies.
These agencies just collect funds forgetting that one day any of them could be a victim of their own negligence.

A country with their institutions fully operational would have prosecuted & jailed the owner of the building, revoked the licence of the construction engineers and ensure the next building goes throught the requirements needed for erecting a structure.
