Nearly all the banking apps process transactions to betting wallet, opay case is different cos it advertises and pop up it's gambling platform on its app which is not suppose to be,also there is a section of the app you can go gamble without necessarily leaving the app, which is very wrong. They are a payment processor not a gambling app.If they want to venture into the gaming industry, they should come out plainly to do that, open an new app for it,so people that download those apps knows what they actually sign up for,not you using a regular banking app and you would be bombarded with all form of betting promotions, that's crazy work. They deserved be to sued. They have been moving funny.

What most of you dont know. Betting is what is keeping Nigerian youth and small business in hope of winning millions one day.
Take that away means no more hope. It will increase crime rate

There is a distinct between believing and hoping to be a millionaire one day and nothing at all to hope on.

Opay is bigger than traditional back. I have abandoned those bank with their charges.

Betting companies doesn’t accept Fintech to withdraw money from winnings. But accept deposits from fin techs.
Lie lie, who told you that

i think betting shouldn’t be allowed on fintech apps
let the betting stores fund the betting habit, thereby making them function like a mini bank. i recently time betting stores have been closing down. imagine opay giving me coupon to bet with ilot and sporty. in fact they should be sued and made to pay back all the transactions they processed through any betting platform and for damages
they promoted betting by advertising and giving coupons and discounts on bet. Most of them does, including palmpay. Even most web browser and streaming football apps does

I think most of us don't get this issue of betting, what the person raising the alarm is referring to is having a betting gateway/merchant on the default page whenever you open the app.
It's just like cigarette and alcohol, despite it being legal, there are still some restrictions as to its display

What determines the size is the operating license that determines your minimum capital base and not really clientele size. This is banking we are talking about.
Don't make this into an argument that shouldn't even exist. My words were clear enough.

Nigerians dey far behind oO! We are so selfish in this country, that we don’t care about the vulnerable in the society. Not knowing that the beast we failed to tame today, will tomorrow come to hunt us or our children. Betting or gambling is as addictive and destructive as hard drugs. And fintechs, especially the ones that cater to the vulnerable and poor masses shouldn’t be using their platforms and accessibility to the poor masses to promote gambling.

GtB smaller than opay? Are you aware that opay operates with MFB license? And in your view, it's the bigger bank.

Opay has more qualities so therefore it's superior to gtb and the likes .. wetin gtb get to offer us than agonizing pain when it's not needed ..

If you cannot be responsible enough to take responsibility for how you spend your money with opay then you are not matured enough to have a bank account.
Why no blame CBN for providing currency you use to play baba ijebu?
Re: Should OPay Be Responsible For What Customers Purchase? by Elsielamidi: 5:48pm On Sep 11
We aren't focusing on the real issue here which is the addiction to gambling, someone that is addicted to gambling doesn't really need to use a n OPay account to fund, I Stan to be corrected and there are even betting shops these days, would we blame the cash that is used to bet now?

The fault is the individual and not the account used to fund, because if you don't initiate the transaction, Opay wouldn't do that for you.

The bigness I'm talking about is in doings...
and not the structural framework.

Opay has 45 million customers,
GTb has 38 million customers
Zenith has 36 million customers

They are all small banks compared to opay.
You think it's by number of customers?
For example Gtb and Opay target different niche. While Gtb combined end user and corporate organisation, Opay mostly serve end users alone. Have you seen any corporate organisation with opay as account number? They use the likes of Gtb and they transact in 100 of millions and billions. Whereas most opay transactions are in thousands. Another angle, have you seen a reputable organisation paying salaries of its workers to Opay? And these transactions runs in billions Monthly. How about international transactions? A lot of transactions are there that you cannot use opay for. There is a reason for MFB license and Commercial bank license.
Re: Should OPay Be Responsible For What Customers Purchase? by phanie07: 6:10pm On Sep 11
Honestly, I don't think OPay should be blamed simply because people use its platform to fund betting. A payment platform provides the infrastructure, it doesn't decide what customers spend their money on

So, for me, the real question isn't should OPay be blamed for gambling? But at what point does facilitating an activity become promoting it?

I've been using GTB and have no issue with their transfers so far and I can say it's seamless, have offices I can have my issues addressed if calls and emails don't cut it.

You can say opay have freebies which commercial banks may not offer but that in no way translates to being bigger.

This is an interesting question, due to the fact that those who bet and fund their betting platforms using Opay or other fintechs are adults. First of all, they is an age restriction and grade that are allowed or capable of betting and even the betting platforms do their own part by giving warning like " Bet responsibly" so now it's your choice to decide how to act when in that situation. You can't blame the financial institutions that aid you in the very service that they are meant to because you feel like they are the cause of your betting problems. Those same financial institutions offer a whole lot of other different services that are useful to lots of people so everything boils down to the choices you made not financial institutions like Opay.

I don't think opay is the problem, they saw a problem and decided to fix, traditional banks have also gone the same way. Opay just made banking convenient and easier for the common man.

There has been a conversation on the internet regarding fintech payment platforms: should a payment company be held responsible for what a customer uses its platform to purchase?

The question sounds simple until we start thinking about it deeply: if I use my bank account to buy alcohol, should the bank be blamed for my alcoholism? Or if I use my debit card to pay for a movie subscription on Netflix, should the card issuer be responsible for the content of the movie? Then why should OPay be accused of contributing to gambling addiction if it is used to fund a betting account?

This is where the conversation around payment platforms and betting becomes complicated. In recent times, there has been criticism of fintech companies for making betting payments easier and more accessible. OPay, one of the most widely used digital payment platforms in Nigeria, has become a part of that conversation because of the huge role the fintech app plays in everyday payment transactions.

There is no point pretending that gambling addiction among young Nigerians is not a ral issue. For some, betting is simply for entertainment. They stake a small amount, watch football games and move on. For other it can become something much more serious.

The easier it becomes to fund a betting account, the less decision-making there is between wanting to place a bet and actually placing one. Fintech has made these financial transactions incredibly easy compared to how it used to be before people had to visit a physical betting shop to fund their accounts.

A payment platform is not the same as a betting company; this distinction is important. OPay does not decide what football team a customer should support or not support. Its function is to provide financial services. The same digital payment infrastructure can be used to pay school fees, pay for online shopping, pay religious center offerings, send money to your parents, buy airtime, or pay for flights.

The payment itself does not determine the nature of the activity taking place at the other end; this is similar to the role traditional banks have played for decades, as a bank provides an account and payment infrastructure, while customers simply make thousands of different transactions from the account.

If I transfer ₦20,000 to a restaurant and eat a not-so-great meal, I don't accuse the bank of promoting bad meals, so why should the standard suddenly become completely different when the transaction involves betting?
The “establishment” are trying every nonsense to wipe-off OPAY and MONIEPOINT.

Opay more especially.
They tried fake statement but it didn't work.

if chase bank process a questionable transaction, the law mandate the teller tell you that this account was used in the past to process questionable funds, if you go ahead they might flag the transaction, why do they do that. that’s all because of criminal liability if they get to process such transaction. i think such reasoning can apply in this case or instance
you are giving entirely different reference, but it is okay...back ward to no movement era (covid-19) ,if opay didn't come handy, you know many Nigerian that might have gone by now? Just so you know, hunger dey kill too, those banks made mistake then of not providing alternatives for people to have access to their money easily and boom, opay show face, for my area till now, we dey do transfer of 100# for pure water,
I stand on my point

It is your money and you can spend it however it pleases you, use your sense when spending it, that's your responsibility.

I literally don't mean you, I'm directing it to whoever reading this ooo,. Make you no take offence say na you I dey face.
