At the boldened, you can have dual citizenships in the US if EITHER of you parents is either American or Nigerian. He is entitled to both citizenships.

I was born in Nigeria but spent all my adolescent life here in the US. Both of my kids have both US and Nigerian passports just like me, even though their mom is only American. They have never visited Nigeria before, but Im frequent in Nigeria since thats my root.

So, this dude's story might be similar to my kids' - they simply can choose where they want to be identified with even though they bear both uS and Nigerian nationalities.
