the price is fixed, not driven by market noise
I hope so.
But you should probably take time to consider the offer multiple.
I think it's quite high. With the IPO price, they're valuing the refining at about 2.5x the publicly declared cost of construction.
The IPO also translates to about 18x the EBITDA.
The average for global refineries sits at about 8x to 9x.
I have the feeling that this IPO may have been overpriced.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

If you want to stay small, then that's fine. Very few business entities have the resources for self finance.

Dangote took loans to build his refinery
Nigeria takes loans to build infrastructure
Banks give loans to construction companies, oil companies.

Nigerian banks literally offer loans to people based on their income. Gtb has studied my cash inflows and are offering me loans at 2.75% based on this.

It is for you to do your due diligence and manage your risk. Eg sell at a higher rate to a higher risk customer.
Now you are talking like a business man. Your first comment was that as a business, you should allow some customers with liquidity problems take your goods on credit and I responded that if a business does not want good or bad debt, it can choose to do that. At least, it knows everyday when Oga Donatus asks how much we have, Bimpe can beat her chest that we have made #1,500,000 today not promissory notes from Adamu. I know what you are saying and I am not ignorant of reality. It is the popular maxim of no risks, no reward. I am just saying businesses can choose what they want based on their risk appetite.

Some people prefer to know what they have today than assume money in the exercise book is what they have when it is not true. There are certain jobs that they even do half payment and balance later but that is still a risk. Whoever promises to balance you tomorrow does not have the promise of tomorrow. Time only changes yesterday but tomorrow is never guaranteed, only what is in front of us today is what we know. What you call small is what some people can tolerate and they will grow small small that way. The ones that choose to chase after customers also have to pay with anxiety and worry. It's just how two of us can decide to exchange comments and you can decide to say I don't have sixseven's time, it's not worth it explaining myself to this anonymous person online. You can also choose to respond to me like you are doing now. Both are equally good, if the first one gives you peace of mind, you won't bother about the other option because you are happy to live with that choice wink

Edit: About Dangote, he shared his story with Peace before on his worst day

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIpGpSb4tC8
In 2003, Aliko Dangote started building a massive cement factory in Obajana, Nigeria. He wanted to grow fast, so his team skipped proper ground tests and used a fake report instead.

Once construction started, the ground began to fail. The soil was too weak to hold the heavy machinery. To fix the mistakes and buy new equipment, Dangote suddenly needed an extra $480 million.

At that time, local banks were too small to help. Each bank only had about $20 million in total capital. To get the money, Dangote had to combine a group of local banks and international lenders to borrow a massive $479 million.

Even after using that money to finish building, the factory could not make any cement for 18 months. This meant the company owed millions of dollars but made zero profit for almost two years. This mistake almost ruined his entire business.
What did he do differently for the refinery?

Aliko Dangote borrowed money again, but he changed his plans completely to make sure he did not make the same mistakes. Building the new $20 billion refinery in Lagos was much bigger and more dangerous.

Dangote could not pay for the whole factory by himself, but he did not want to rely only on loans. He paid over $11 billion out of his own pocket using profits from his cement and sugar businesses. He then borrowed $5.5 billion from a mix of local and international banks. Because he wanted to avoid long-term risk, Dangote prioritized paying back billions of dollars of that loan very quickly.

Dangote did not rush the project. He took extra steps to make sure nothing went wrong with the construction or the land. The new land in Lagos was a swamp. Remembering his past failure, Dangote hired global experts to dump millions of tons of sand on the ground to make it solid before building. He also paid $100 million in cash directly to the government to buy the land cleanly so no one could sue him later.

To stop local contractors from cheating him or delaying the work, Dangote bought his own construction trucks and cranes, training his own workers to do everything. Finally, to avoid taking more loans as the project grew, Dangote sold shares of the refinery to big global investors for $2.5 billion. This means other companies are now sharing the financial risk with him
What changed in his approach even though he could buy it off 100%?

1. Aliko Dangote put an his own cash into the project first, keeping the majority stake, and only used debt and new investors to fill the remaining gap. Because he put up the majority of the money as personal cash (equity), he kept over 90% ownership of the refinery for himself.

2. The debt was a smaller piece this time around. He only borrowed $5.5 billion from the banks. This means his loans accounted for less than 30% of the project, making the business much safer from bank pressure than his old cement factory.

3. New investors share the risk with him, instead of debt. When he recently sold shares to global investors for $2.5 billion, he did not do it to take on more debt. Instead, those investors became part-owners. They gave him cash in exchange for a piece of his stake, which means they now share the future financial risks and rewards of the factory with him.

Nice exchange my friend wink

How come he is selling at a higher price to the general public? Isn't this discrimination since it is still an IPO?

Re: Dangote Begins Sale Of Refinery Shares To Nigerians At ₦525 (Video) by IndexMode: 1:25pm On Sep 14
Contrary to some wild opinions that it will end up worthless or something like that.

No.
It's actually a very good investment.

The issue is just that this IPO will have them allocating very little number of shares to each of the people that apply. This exercise is to get a lot of people bring in small amounts each so that money is raised but no major shareholder emerges.

If you want to really invest. You have to buy more on the floor of the NSE. Better for you if you bid your timing to periods of low Or when dollar spikes up because right now the $ equivalent of your investment would be low.

You might later bring $5 into the country and use it to buy up to 7 units of shares.

As expected most of the platforms involved in the sales are crashing already.

I was in banks on Friday to make inquiries on the IPO, funny enough most of the bankers aren't show of the modality of the sales of the IPO. Bamboo had been crawling since morning because of traffic of people trying to buy into this, they aren't prepared for this huge traffic.

Well, let them put their acts together and see to the fact that most Nigerians can buy into it. It's possible after a few days now u will hear that all the shares had been subscribed and so, no more share to buy. Naija will be great someday.

How does Dangote not love us more than the master strategist of a-looter propaganda politicians who pays more subsidy illegally under a different name to Malta blending plant fuel importers, but ironically petrol price is super expensive and even roads are worse than when PDP gave us cheap petrol and less debt.

What is the usefulness of Tinubu to Nigeria and Nigerians? The balablu bulaba town hall clueless clown hates us and just loves himself.

Nice one from Danny Gee. The next step is global expansion outside Africa and in the process challenging the likes of Shell, Total and Mobil in the global energy markets.

Why does this sound like NMDPRA's labour in vain attempt to destroy this PDP licensed private refinery?

The destructive attempts continue with Tinubu paying subsidies illegally with a new name, to importers of fuel from their Malta blending plants. Thankfully, Dangote is a strong businessman who knows how to overcome these obstacles.

Base on what i have seen so far today being the opening day, this IPO is going to be very very over subscribed. Whoever gets 500 units will thank God.

The early birds did not pay 525# per share during the private placement..

So expect the price to drop below the IPO price eventually before rallying up again..

So this is a good buy

I am not buying this ipo.

At 525 per share I feel it is expensive and requires alot to give me 5x profit

For now I will stick to money market which gives me 17% annually and compounds the interest until an opportunity arises
