The river port in Onitsha is testament to how Ekwenme wanted to divert Nigeria's economic hub away from the SW to his SE.

It failed woefully .

If that port could function , I tell you that they won't be in Lagos .
Lies. Shagari was having problems maintaining roads in the country. So he wanted a direct route that could take goods there to the east without long hauls that will destroy roads. And save the country billions in road maintenance.

He created the National transportation master plan.

Note that Shagari also thought it was Igbos that were spoiling the roads 😂

He also built A port in Niger State to service northerners why is no one talking about that one?

It was under Shagari that the Lagos -Benin highway was dualized .

Try another lie.

The Onitsha port initiative was to divert imports that was planned ahead to flood the markets so as to transform Onitsha to Nigeria's main economic hub.

It failed woefully because of the high silt content of the river Niger estuary and because Onitsha was a one way port catering only to imports unlike Lagos Wharf that was handling exports from across SW and northern Nigeria.

This thread is going to show your true colours that you are a very big liar.

The construction and dualization of the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway (the core of the Lagos–Benin route) was actually executed in the 1970s under the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo, not the Shagari administration.

I want everyone reading this thread to understand that the port you see wasn't like that in 1970s
So when goods came in there was something called

1970s port congestion crisis.

You can google it.

So?

That means we didn't have a problem of bad roads as that highway was on good condition.

I just pity you guys, the kind of hatred and enemity you all are building up will be the thing that will destroy this country totally. My question for you guys, is that the Ekewnmen you are trying to accuse was never the president of this country, now tell me what happened to the president during this period you are accusing him.

While people of Kwara state focused on building materials, the people of Ibadan and Ijebus dominated spare parts and vehicle business in Lagos decades ago.

The Yorubas were displaced by the Igbos market strategy which involved selling cheap products, offering alternatives to original products.

The only place where Yorubas still have influence in spare part business is Owode Onirin. All other places selling spare parts in Lagos are dominated by the Igbos .

Now, that the Chinese have arrived. They should be allowed to set up there shops and offer alternatives to Nigerians.

Or the Lagos State Government should establish Chinese auto spare parts markets separate from the ones dominated by the Igbos.

The Chinese have overtaken Europe and the US combined industrial output and are outperforming western tech in aerospace, defense, tech, auto industry ,AI and construction and you are here saying you can compete against them on selling their own Chinese made products .

How delusional.

Nigeria did not exist 150 years ago so there is nothing like "Nigeria's economic hub".

there are over 100 ethnic nations within Nigeria that means there is the potential to have over 100 economic hubs..

SW is the economic hub of the "Y" people while the "i" people have eastern Nigeria as their economic hub and already have ports in PORT HARCOURT and Delta state...

besides they cannot divert the "Y" people's economic hub so all they have to do is start their businesses in the "Y" people's nation and have control over the economics and politics of the state and since the current set of "Y" politicians and states are not creating jobs for the "Y" people then the "Y" people will sell their lands to non-"Y"s because a "Y" president has destroyed the economy of the the ethnic nations within Nigeria.

The reason you guys are against Tinubu's reforms is because he floated the naira which inadvertently has slowed down imports.

Any President who discourages importation and promotes local production , is an enemy of the Ibo.

And the most annoying thing is that your region contributes next to nothing in FX earnings but are the ones calling for subsidized FX that will go into imports that will further drain our FX reserves and see to total deindustrialization .

I wonder how you guys will sustain such a model in your Biafra ?

How will your govt pay for imported goods when you export nothing ?
the reason they are against the self-acclaimed "Y" president is that he is not the same ethnicity as them..

the "Y" president also wants to tax every ethnic nation in Nigeria into poverty whether they are "Y" people or not.. so even honest "Y" people are also against the president...

Everyone will be impacted by the Chinese getting deep into the retail market.

They have the advantage of bulk purchase at different pricepoints.

When Nigeria was borrowing money from China, They got a deal to not get their goods restricted and even reduced duties.

Our agencies tend to extend punitive measures to Nigerians on all goods going through the port(entitled toll collector) at ports, roads, warehouses and markets, someone always harass/extort businesses for money.

We are all victims of the society we have created
