For years, Gateway International Airport sat quietly on the Ilishan-Remo/Iperu axis of Ogun State, a patch of undulating land that many doubted could ever host a functioning runway. Today, with an Interim Aerodrome Operational Permit in hand and an April 2026 commissioning behind it, the airport is no longer a rumour. What has now emerged, however, is a figure too large to wave away with ceremony: a reported $800 million price tag, translating to well over one trillion naira of public money. That number deserves more scrutiny than applause, Seunmanuel Faleye writes.https://applesbite.com/gateway-international-airports-800-million-question-now-faces-ogun-taxpayers/

The white elephant airport project is the reason why dapo abiodun stalled development in ogun for over 7 years. The interesting part is that the easily manipulated electorate will reward him for his incompetence by electing him as senator come 2027. |

Their supporters would say the “terrain” in Nigeria is different from those countries you mentioned that’s why it costs more to build. |

| Re: Ogun Airport’s $800 Million Question Now Faces Ogun Taxpayers - Emmanuel Faleye by nairalanda1(m): 2:46pm On Sep 15 |
LOL, any time I see taxpayers asking questions...the airport did not come from the tax monies. Ogun budget is as follows Total Budget: ₦1.668 trillion ("Budget of Sustainable Legacy"Only about 250 billion naira comes from the State IRS...ie is taxpayer money. Tax uptake in most states is very low to fund projects like these, hence the borrowing (Airport is not even neccesary...a better idea would be a railway link between the lagos airport and the state...but no). |

Nigerian governors are the main reasons why this nation can never truly prosper. What a single Nigerian governor loots from his state will make a Mexican Cartel chief shocked to his marrow. ![]() |

Samuels90:$40 million airport for $800 million. This is daylight robbery; that's why these crooks prefer conference centres, airports and flyovers instead of education, electricity, and healthcare |

nairalanda1:$800 million will fund between 500-1000 MW in electricity generation depending on supplier instead of wasting it on a vanity project. |

A bungalow-style terminal, one runway and a control tower, for a sum that rivals some of the biggest terminal projects on earth, is not a comparison that flatters Iperu.Lol. Am i dreaming or what? ....and no one is in jail for this? Well the FG used $3b to fix few dead refineries and they are still dead. |
| Re: Ogun Airport’s $800 Million Question Now Faces Ogun Taxpayers - Emmanuel Faleye by CodeTemplar: 3:48pm On Sep 15 |
Angelfrost:the governors did not create n maintain the states. The FG did and has refused to adjust this witchcraft structure that guarantees nothing truly inspiring comes out of all 36 states. Just flyovers, airports and some random projects like roads library and renovations. Very insane country. Tinubu is building Lagos-Calabar for his empire to toll. |

nairalanda1:I was even about to ask this. There's MMIA 1 and 2 in Lagos, what's the point of an airport in Ogun state when the state has bad roads scattered everywhere. Funny thing is that these men have supporters. He's definitely doing it because he knows that the opportunity to steal is enormous. I said it b4, and I'll say it again, majority of the politicians in Nigeria are not just greedy but are people with very low eyeqs. And, by the way, can someone educate me on y the requirements for a political office is so relaxed, that to be president or governor one only needs to have SSCE? Shouldn't these offices be for people who are well educated, of high level of integrity, people who were achievers in previous career? |

Has the "airport" been converted to a fellowship center like that built by that rambunctious, lousy, fake professor of engineering called Umahi of Ebony state? If it hasn't then there is still hope. "E wole fa gba" 🎶 Watching house of assembly members of Ogun state singing the praises of that credit card fraudster with fake educational certificates, made me sick to my stomach. I can bet you that $100m.wasnt used in building that airport. The rest has gone into buying white dye for his goatee. |

This stadium is a white elephant, a misplaced priority and not viable. A supposed cargo airport less than 50 kilometres to Lagos. Even the industrial hub of Ogun state that is located in the Ado odo- Ota local government (Agbara/Ota) axis less than 20 kilometers to the Lagos airport does not need an airport, but a wasteful government of Ogun state went ahead to build an airfield that is virtually unnecessary in Ijebu axis with virtually no industrial activities and call it a cargo airport. |
