Lol... I needa ask , how n what are we even benefiting from this dangote refinery brouhahahuh

The smuggling thing is an issue, yes agreed but I still maintain the fact that , I do not think the fight in middle east is affecting the availability of petrol in our country ... Coz the petrol we refine is from our country, so how does it affect the availability n price here?
Stop diverting the issues at hand .
Or which Smuggling did you See in Nigeria today, for it will not even pay the Smugglers not their bench backers.
The Iran and USA War will surely be over,as times goes on.
The problem is that we Nigerians should learn to absorb occasional shocks like this Global Oil 🪔🛢️ impacts but Peace will surely return back 🔙.

See this man just dey deceive gullible people. What has smuggling got to do with the fact that crude prices fell, but Dangote kept increasing fuel prices?

Mtchww... Gullible People who don't understand monopoly and somebody taking advantage of a corrupt country like Nigeria will say yes to this fallacy.

Was this not the same refinery you Nigerians prayed, waited and clamored for? How has it improved your life's and your personal economics?

Ok he should tell us why cement is so expensive, a commodity that has all raw materials here in Nigeria. Sorry Nigerians, our leaders are very wicked people.
..do not mind dangote..the high costs of fuel is due to the war between Iran and USA and the blockage of strait of Hormuz caused by the war.. where vessels, ships carrying crude oil normally pass this has caused crude oil price to rise 105 dollars to a barrel which has made fuel prices to increase

That's a direct indictment of our customs. Just like every other sector... there's massive ineptitude, bribery, corruption and general chaos. A serious government will tackle this loopholes.....need I say more?

Yeah, I'm not surprised there is smuggling, the only good thing about it now is that government is no longer paying subsides, so we aren't subsidising everyone and anyone. But at the end, the CUstoms needs to be up and doing.

Still Nigeria cannot stop smuggling, as most smugglers are a guy with a 50 kg keg of petrol...carrying it across the border. Not just the big tankers. Unless the government is ready to enclose Nigeria with the equivalent of the Berlin wall...the Berlin wall 2000 that the GDR leadership was planning for the 1990's that would have included among other things robot controlled guns operating by being triggered by motion sensors, anD cctv cameras everywhere...smuggling is going to happen. The fact that subsidy is gone means that it isn't being done at the expense of the treasury.

Still, a trick we could use is to charge tarrifs on petrol going out of the country...as much as 30%. Ouch.
Oga we're not subsidising Nigerians but we're subsidising our neighbours. This is because government isn't collecting any tax from the product. For example, road tax isn't collected! Therefore, deterioration of the roads by these trucks is borne by government alone to the favour of our neighbours. Another is pollution tax. After absolving all the pollution in our environment we now give it freely to our neighbours through smuggling! Do you now see that smuggling is to our detriment!

And he quickly introduce IPO to the common man in order to compel them into taking whatever he throws at us.

No matter what he did now, the 10 millions Nigerians expected to invest in his refinery are more than enough to defend him. He is just a smart man using monopoly advantage to increase his empire for his generations to come. How on earth will you be comparing the price you sell in Nigeria to far away neighbouring countries. Well, I don't blame him, I blame the useless government that couldn't outrightly acquired 40% stake in the refinery when it took off, instead, the idiots in power then were busy giving him subsidise dollars at the expenses of our common wealth to build his private company.

Óga, the bigger reason is because the country's leadership is inept.
If our refineries are working, this matter will be taken care of.

Then why can't he just make fuel available for everyone irrespective of where they are taking the product to. How does this affect the price.

It is not as if he was the only supplier of products to the economy. Remember we still import a lot...a lot of products at international market price remember....or is his fuel cheaper than imports?

The koko of the matter remains that since subsidy ended, it supposedly ended the fear of smuggling since it equalized the price across the border so how can there be scarcity when everyone in Africa has access to global oil at no additional cost to refiners, importers or government....or is there something they are not telling us....

ARE THEY STILL PAYING SUBSIDY....tok tru... angry
High fuel prices makes Dangote RICHER!

Pardon me, but am I the only one processing this explanation wrongly.? Is there PMS scarcity or why is the man giving what would would have passed as an explanation for fuel scarcity as the reason for fuel being sold at 1350 /litre. Why can't we buy petrol at 650/litre here locally and let us hold the border official responsible for our petrol being sold in neighbouring countries for like say 2100/litre . Was there not a time before the Iran war that petrol price was dropping to as low as 770 / litre or what am I missing ? Was there no smuggling out going on then ? What is Mr Dangote blurting out really? He sounded incoherent to me I'm sorry , and this seems like a weak defence of another exploitative business practice of conglomerate at the expense of the poor masses . Let us ask him while we are it why cement prices has also shot up to 14,000.

Re: Why Petrol Remains Expensive In Nigeria — Dangote by grandstar(m): 10:55pm On Sep 15
He isnt answering the question.

If it is high in Nigeria, how come it is being smuggled to other African countries?

The truth is that the "present high price" is due to the disruptions in crude oil supply due to the standoff between of US and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, which has adversely affected the movement of about 20% of global crude oil shipments.

If it is being smuggled out of Nigeria, it is because the price of petrol is still much cheaper than outside.

The price would have been more expensive locally but the vicious price war with Nigerian petrol importers has forced hin to drastically reduce his profits and the price he sells it.

TenQ:
No sir!

What he has just said is that it is dangerous for the price of petrol to be lower than it is in Nigeria because even at the pump price we call expensive in Nigeria, prices are between 25-30% more expensive across the border

Meaning that if Nigeria should reduce their own pump price, the incentive to smuggle the fuel out of Nigeria across the border would increase tremendously and this would lead to scarcity in Nigeria (potentially higher cost).

So, artificially, they maintain a higher cost in Nigeria to sustain availability.
Does this make sense to you as a right thinking personhuhhuhhuh?? You increase the price of petrol in your country so that people will not be incentiviced to smuggle to neighboring countries......Not all Nigerians are fools please

Sir,only very few Nigerians have sense. You wrote what you wrote becasue you have sense.
Smuggling should only lead to scarcity of the product, not increase in price.

What Dangote is saying in effect is that petrol prices will continue to increase even when crude oil drops to 60 dollars per barrel becasue there will still be smuggling to neighboringcountries...so it is no longer the Iran war againhuhhuh?

He can only say this nonsense because he knows majority of Nigerians are foolish

Dangote does not have monopoly on petrol. In addition to NNPC refineries producing since 2015 according to A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC, Tinubu is continuing to import petrol from their Malta blending plants and paying them illegal subsidies under a different name to sabotage the PDP licensed private refinery.

NNPCL’s subsidy payment jump by 47.9% to N7.1trn in 2024

November 26, 2025

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) paid a total of N7.1 trillion as subsidy for premium motor spirit (PMS) in 2024, this sum represents a 47.9 percent increase from N4.8 trillion recorded in 2023.

This is despite the government’s announcement of subsidy removal in 2023.

The company explained that the amount, which it termed ‘energy security expense’ arises when there is differential between the exchange rate used to freeze the premium motor spirit ex-coastal price and the prevailing rate at the point of import settlement.

According to the report, government had instructed that NNPC Limited cannot sell its PMS above a certain regulated price. It added that the cost of petrol import is usually much higher that the regulated price.

Are the most foolish Nigerians those who have reinforced APC failure since 2015?

How much do you think you have been FORCED to pay as subsidy for the massive corruption in APC’s oil industry in the past 11 years?

anonimi:
Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

What do we have all the agencies for?
Dont they have the data of Gas Stations in those border towns? Once too many tankers are going towards that direction that should be a red flag. And by now the agencies ought to have the record of how often gas station around border towns restock. Apart being economic sabotage, its a matter of national security.
