franchasng:But this same way was how US dominated the global economy too Subtle trade practices sometimes tied to aid and if refused may even attract sanctions. The US scared that China is going to use the same thing it used against others to edge pass them Tell me why will Only USD be used for global trade and especially crude oil trade ? Why? The same thing you accuse China of. Westerners and their puppets won't cease to amaze me , because China is paying you back in your own coins we no go hear wor Abegiii |

franchasng:But this isn't the issue or problem. The Chinese marketers in Nigeria are not the manufacturers nor the manufacturers representatives. They are ordinary Chinese citizens who saw an opportunity in Nigeria for trading. What was the opportunity? The prices of Chinese goods in Nigeria are like usually well above 100% marked up by the Nigerian traders. So, the Chinese trader come to Nigeria, BUY goods from the same Chinese market and sell at less than 50% mark up. Of course buyers will go for the Cheaper price which also comes with a better quality as they wouldn't negotiate that the manufacturer produce INFERIOR quality just like Emeka and Chisom would have done. Now, market is slowing down for the boys at Alaba and market is booming for the Chinese. The Alaba boys think that the Chinese are the problem BUT No! It is their WICKED profit margin that is the problem. |

sweerychick:at least they won't call us lazy n brag to our faces. They won't inflate prices because we refuse to vote their brother With what u lots did in the aftermath of the last election, nobody will want u to hold the monopoly of anything. Imagine inflating prices deliberately cos your brother lost election |

QuinQ:You are mixing up service providing and manufacturing. A servic provider like the airline can sell directly to the consumers irrespective of the fact that retail businesses are built around discounted airline fairs which the airline make available to these retailers like Nigeria's wakanow. Manufacturing is entirely different. Let me know if you wish to learn more. |

Their brother Peter Obi always quotes China as an example for Nigeria to learn from in building an economy. Now the China people themselves have come to show us the practicals of what Peter Obi has been saying, but Peter Obi's brothers are the ones angry about it and saying China must go, and Peter Obi himself is keeping quiet and not doing anything about his China friends being driven out of Nigeria. No be Juju be that one? |

Our people are too greedy here.... Chinese will sell their products for 5000naira our own will be 12000naira... For price sake Nigerians will want this kind of competition but from what the op is pointing ...it's not good for economics wise..... They the Chinese knows they can't do that in sane society, they are only here to exploit our corrupt system. |

Irony1:who send u to go to bank? Who send u to act as middle man? Guy nobody needs u again, go to your village n continue ripping them off. Welcoming Chinese traders is a way to get back to u due to the madness u did in the last election, imagine I people deliberately increased prices of goods cos we didn't vote your brother n u even bragged about it to our faces simply because I believe u have the monopoly. Now we are breaking that monopoly u think u have |

A trader in Nigeria brings in a product at a total cost of 2000 naira and sells it for 3000 naira. Another trader goes to China, imports a product at a total cost of 1000 naira and sells it at 2950 naira. The consumer looks at the 50 naira difference and says "It's just 50 naira. I'd rather not buy a Chinese product because of 50 naira". Chinese manufacturer set lowe prices to gain advantage over their competitors form other countries, but the greed of the traders wipes out that advantage. If you were the Chinese, would you fold your hands and continue to endure low volume of goods leaving your factory warehouse or go straight to the consumer and sell at the RRP? I wish the Chinese can take a bold step and establish their automobile assembly plants in Nigeria. We need to buy Chinese cars at a reasonable mark up price not the rip-off we are currently experiencing from the car vendors. |

It appears these "miscreants" as described by the Lagos police are against capitalism. The South West operates an open and free market economic structure because it gives room to competitions and innovation. If you're afraid of competing kindly step aside because we are expecting more countries to come in, not just the Chinese. |

PulaPower:Ordinarily will ignore this. The only reference I made to any location was the syndrome observed in my time in Port Harcourt about the sub-cultural attitude of retailers on almost every street in almost every community which I don't find comfortable with. The Chinese have been retailing in Nigeria since the 80's. Nigeria, Nigeria as a whole, from north to south and not only in your enclave so there is no need to feel threatened by my response. I don't do tribe or language or geography. I always speak nationally because the economy of this country is firmly anchored to our political structure that lends.to a unitary system. Unbundle that system and no one will care where you are or where you come from. |

LadyExcellency:u dey mind them? People with little or zero knowledge about business go just come here dey cap careless out of hatred for a particular tribe. A manufacturer is not supposed to engage in retailing. You're just suffocating the retailers who buys from u. |

In today's digital age and era, the brick and mortar lock up shop is already obsolete. Amazon has replaced most retail outlets in the US with only big stores like Walmart and Costco still barely holding on because they offer a shopping experience which most Americans are addicted to. Other than that, manufacturers are now selling directly to their customers or through digital middlemen. Playstation has finally said they will soon scrap selling digital disks and that all their games for the proposed PS6 will have to be bought through direct digital downloads from their sites. The most annoying thing about this whole saga is that the Ibo guys source these goods from Chinese warehouses located within the market. They do not pay any extra cost to move their goods from the warehouse to their retail shops within the markets but they will be adding up to 100-200% profit on their goods. Is that not madness and greed ? |

| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by FSBoperator: 10:34am On Sep 17 |
Reloadedisraelp:And what is most annoying is that the Chinese warehouses are located within the same market. It costs the Ibo guys no additional money to move the goods from the Chinese warehouse to their shops but they will be placing premium profits margins as high as 200% on those goods. The Chinese also have their own targeted sales margins as they might have gotten a deal with the main supplier to buy a specific quantity to get a specific discount. If they can't move their goods quick enough to order more from their suppliers in china , they risk losing that discount. So overall, the greedy Ibo traders are an impedinent to Chinese sales and consumer purchasing power. They are not in anyway needed . |

BATified2023:You are really filled with hatred in your heart and you think you are doing igbos they definitely are saying this to let people know not because there is no contingency plans. You are so filled with hatred, you are emotionally unwell, go and seek help. Those that did Rwanda genocide all faced firing squad, if you think you will escape when similar happens in Naija you are joking. |

LadyExcellency:Simply say that's P&G choses to operate but nowhere in a free market economy that Nigeria operates can you say a manufacturer can't do retail! Dangote comes to mind: when marketers like you wanted to frustrate him...he brought in his CNG tankers and all is history! When VDM dragged BLord cause of his phone specs and outrageous prices, people like you said he was envious and should compete if e easy, he has put his money where his mouth is and Nigerians have another option-the more the merrier! Let everybody compete for the attention of 120million plus Nigerians. |

franchasng:GOD BLESS YOU FOR THIS POST. You said the absolute truth. The uninformed think it's just about buying things cheaper, but it's much deeper than that. If Nigeria was working and we were producing most of what we need, who are the Chinese to come and start retail trading here? |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by FSBoperator: 10:36am On Sep 17 |
Irony1:Liar. In Onitsha you will never see a non Ibo trader in your market because you guys will never tolerate it and when pressed why there are hardly any non Ibo trader in your markets you will say they can't compete with you Ibos in trade. The Chinese have come prepared for you guys and you are now telling us crap about how you are not allowed to trade in china. Can you tell us that there are no Ibo businesses in china ?
