franchasng:Chinese are not foreigners again? Hmm Oh because you cooked up that tales by moonlight story that "they are sponsored by their governments" without any proof, we should believe you? Please don't start feeling me stories about the Chinese nation trade strategy and mind you this isn't exclusive to the Chinese! Every country seeks such whether overtly or covertly! This your "government sponsored line" is blatantly false abeg! Wait, isn't this the everyday bread and butter mindset for the average Igbo business man! We want competitive market prices-period and if anybody (whether foreigner or not) will deliver that, so be it! |

franchasng:Hmm perhaps you are the one not understanding the topic you brought up. And let me tell you as a person who has lived all over Asia for the past 14 years, the whole business environment in Nigeria is a bunch of cartel like villains who are purposely out to exploit the average Nigerian. There is no stopping the Chinese from being retailers as long as there are proper guard rails and barriers to entry like adequate consumer protection, business visa for such individuals should be based on number of locals directly employed by them, industries and things they are allowed to trade should be explicitly specified by the government (which is easier to track if the corruption which some people have benefited from for years do not exist in our ports). The way forward is not to fear change but to adopt change and set boundaries accordingly and making sure we protect the core tenants of society like our agricultural sector, land, and security infrastructure. I have personally seen how this cabal gang up against any Nigerian national who dares to import things and sell it at a fair price rather than price gouging the consumers, this can’t keep happening, I’m telling you I buy imported American products in Asia far cheaper than Nigerians buy goods produced cheaply in China. In what world is a 300% percent mark up even ethical? You people call it being smart? Well this is the result. Next sector mark my words is the Nigerian Aviation sector, greed in all our sectors must be addressed, if Nigerians are going to continue extorting fellow Nigerians, foreign nationals are more than welcome to take over the sector. Where we not in this same country when some people were changing dollar rate based on the side of the bed they woke up? Or we don’t know what happened to the price of rice once FG decided to open up importation again. There is the banter and there is reality, the market might not change today but it’s 100% going to change. |

erad:You saw him supporting extortion and you are surprised? Go through the OP's post history of like two, three months ago. In an exchange with another user, you'll see where he was making a case for why one of the leading presidential candidates from his ethnic stock had to hide taxes from the UK government. He said the UK government charges too much tax. You can fact-check me on this. Is like you don't know these people. They share similar idealogy with the northerners. That is why I have always maintained that both should have been sharing a country. You will recall our NSA some months back calling bandits our brothers? It is the same with them. Once it is anybody from their ethnic stock or it has anything to do with their ethnicity or its interests/agenda, they just defend it, regardless of how ridiculous they come off in the process of doing that. |

franchasng:The truth is, some yorubas hate for the igbos will consume not just the southwest but Nigeria if care is not taken. This is how they celebrated Buhari victory and later Tinubu, today Nigerians buy goods and. Services more expensive and life have become harder. Celebrate the Chinese invasion today but don’t cry tomorow because china can never mean well for you entirely. Mark this words. China will be glad to see gain more space in Nigeria since we have opened the door wide for them to come and take over. The govt have continuously make life difficult for Nigerians but no it is always pointed at the igbos instead |

Consequences of a free market. |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by ZoomTravels: 12:14pm On Sep 17 |
zinowealth:Apparently only the Yorubas hate you, why not try Kano market? Better still as you don claim port harcourt (igweocha) is there with a functioning port (Onne), all it takes is one Igbo businessman like Dangote to expand the port in Delta which is also functional. If you really feel the hate of the same people who have been your customers for decades, you can move to these places. Yoruba decision to stop buying goods at 300-400% mark up shouldn’t bother you too much, I’m sure in a country of 250 million people you will find new consumer base. E come be like say this government no Dey favour some people, imagine complaining that things are expensive and yet blaming people who simply don’t want to be extorted by money na water folks? Wow the cognitive dissonance is astounding |

| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by Osanoghodua1: 12:19pm On Sep 17 |
Trash write up, very trashy, and this made it to FP? I can manufacture and still do marketing myself if I have the will. This is what Dangote is doing in terms of Cement and trying to do in the petroleum sector to avoid sabotage like we currently have. Our people should come together and manufacture cheap products that can compete with the Chinese products too or our people should stop the greed of fleecing consumers like they're currently doing. Nigerians are just too greedy, they want to make all the profits at once. VDM raised this concern and he was heavily insulted and threatened and the Chinese are just now exposing this wicked greed of our people. I don't like the Chinese because they're crook but anything to bring down the prices of things is welcome. |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by Lovit(m): 12:20pm On Sep 17 |
Don't cut your nose to spite your face Some Yoruba commenters here are making this look like an anti-Igbo issue. Yes, it is a free market but we should be weary of the Chinese. There are Yoruba traders in Lagos too! I pray we don't start behaving like the South Africans in a few years to come when the Chinese completely colonize our economy and labour market |

FreeStuffsNG:When we intentionally destroy ourselves because of hatred to others, we soon find out we lost our control. Even in the same China, you cannot establish retail store to complete with locals. Tomorrow, what you support for myopic political reasons will hurt you. Today, it is ASPAMDA, tomorrow they will grow into other markets and chase out all those selling laces and other clothing material in Isake-Eko. I hope you won't complain. The Igbos are resilient people, they can easily metamorphose and break out, I hope the woman in Isake-Eko can. |

erad:Oga just keep quiet. This format of lying is stale, look for another scope to use. You are the fake one here. Lying about about entering importation just to sell a bigoted agenda. |

Rebelutionary:So are the igbos staying too and have a nice days as well. |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by ZoomTravels: 12:30pm On Sep 17 |
Lovit:Hence why the government will provide guardrails like making visa dependent on how many locals you employ ( this is a reciprocal visa policy as the Chinese also apply the same law), consumer protection policies to curb any excesses and restrictions on sectors they are allowed to delve into. If you call it an anti-Igbo issue well that’s your opinion but as in their usual style they have failed to properly come out before Nigerians united under one person to articulate what will be done about the prevalent price gouging. Are we just meant to live under a regime of ridiculous mark ups just because we don’t want to offend the precious igbos. P.S the only thing wrong with South Africa is the lazy blacks living there, South African economy is still much better than the Nigerian one despite the ANC mismanagement, Nigerians are not lazy. people |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by erad(m): 12:33pm On Sep 17 |
Irony1:Lol... You know importation is now rocket science that only certain people can do. Nah only una sabi do am. As China sef don come, nah only them sabi do am. If you think anyone will create new laws to protect economic vultures and unethical saboteurs, dey play. |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by ZoomTravels: 12:35pm On Sep 17 |
Validated:I think we will anxiously wait for the day then, I don’t know Yorubas are so loved like this? Suddenly everyone cares about the plight of the Yorubas. If your brothers are serious in China, there is nothing stopping Africans especially Nigerians opening up a business in China, follow the rules, employ locals, pay their social security, and rent a suitable spot. No be to Dey move around Asia selling you know what |

sammiewrite:It's very easy to know where they belong once they open that mouth to amplify their rotten mindset. They don't care if Nigeria burns and Nigerians are feeding on sand, as long as they can cash out. Very warped and wicked mentality. |

| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by 3rdeyeNigeria: 1:30pm On Sep 17 |
franchasng:I assume you are an educated person. Give me data where let's say Igbos went to another African country and out compete locals and it led to mass poverty. Rather it has shown to create mass prosperity via new opportunities. The fall of Nokia did not equate fall of smart phone. If I follow your argument, let's Ghanian compete with Ghanians, let South Africans compete with south Africans it will lead to mass prosperity. News flash, it won't. Igbo traders need to evolve. Let's the Chinese players play. At the end it favours Nigeria as a whole |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by Mccullum: 1:33pm On Sep 17 |
If you go to the Republic of Benin, there are so many foreigners selling goods there, like Lebanese, Indian and others There's nothing special for Chinese traders trading in Nigeria. |
| Re: Protest Against Chinese Traders In Nigeria: The Untold Truth by 3rdeyeNigeria: 1:34pm On Sep 17 |
Atheistan:Igbos should compete with Chinese. Chinese should come and build refinery and compete with Dangote. Nigerians tend to love oppressing their fellow Nigerians. You will be shocked that Chinese refinery can be selling fuel for N300 and Dangote selling 1400 will be shouting they are taking our business. |

franchasng:Yorubas are celebrating with the mistaken belief it will affect only Igbo traders. The first people to suffer it are the few of them that don't have the financial and other support most of those Igbo importers have. In most countries in the world, there are laws against foriegners opening retail shops, it is to protect the local economy. The level of tribalism in this country is unbelievable. This Nairaland has become the number one platform where people can express their hatred, sometimes protected and promoted by the MODs. How can people be this naive to the extent of supporting something that will hurt them? |
