A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aliyu Farouk, has said President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to be happy with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, over his recent attacks on governors elected on the platform of the ruling party.


Farouk stated this while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday.

Wike had recently described some APC governors as “politically lazy” while defending his Rainbow Coalition, which he said was aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.


His comments came after the APC Governors’ Forum, led by Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, rejected any political alliance capable of weakening the APC or undermining Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Reacting to the development, Farouk said the APC was working towards establishing a unified campaign structure at the national and state levels, with governors expected to take charge of the party’s campaign activities in their respective states.

He said the party would not prevent Wike from expressing his views but would not be pleased with his remarks about APC governors.

“We do not want any situation where it becomes vote for APC, vote for PDP, or vote for any other party.

“As far as we are concerned, we want a unified APC campaign structure, which is exactly what we are setting up at the national level and across the states as well, and the governors are going to be in charge of the states.

“You know, so we cannot stop Wike from speaking the way he does or saying whatever he wants. But as a party, we resent that kind of comment.

“We are not happy with the way he called our governors, and I’m sure Mr President will not be happy either,” he said.

Farouk also questioned Wike’s claim that he had held discussions or reached an arrangement with President Tinubu concerning his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

“And if he said he had meetings or an arrangement with Mr President, well, we in the APC are not privy to that. I’m sure he’s not privy to what we are also discussing with Mr President,” he added.

He urged APC members to refrain from engaging Wike in public exchanges over the matter.

“I call on my, you know, party members not to join issues with them,” Farouk said.

Wike has maintained that his Rainbow Coalition is intended to support Tinubu at the presidential level while allowing opposition parties to field candidates against APC candidates in governorship and legislative elections.

Tinubu encouraged Wike to make that statement thinking it will spur the governors to rig the elections in their states at any cost for him the way Wike did but it will rather achieve the opposite. Tunubu is sending out the impression that only his own re-election matters. He expects the governors to support him while he continues to empower Wike to field candidates against them? How selfish can that be?

Wike has positioned himself in such a way that he's going to take credit for any efforts that's put in by the APC governors. This will rather make them step aside and wait for Wike to come deliver Tinubu in their states. They have nothing to lose as long as they can negotiate their own re-election. Afterall, defection na water. They can easily defect to the party that wins the election or even remain in the APC because the incoming president will not be as insecure, overbearing or paranoid as Tinubu.

Part of the deal that made many decamp to the ruling party was the assurances they got that all opposition parties will be destroyed to pave way for their smooth re-election. Otherwise, governors like Plateau, Taraba, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom and many more would not have decamped. Tinubu failed to keep to his own side of the bargain by encouraging Wike to field strong candidates against them. It doesn't help their case that the ADC and NDC has also emerged to be formidable opposition parties in most states.

No be Wike again. It's a matter of time he will reveal how he rigged the 2023 Rivers presidential election in favour of the drug lord. Go and ask Atiku and Iyorcha Ayu. Even Amaechi that made him chief of staff is not spared so, the Chicago drug master will soon face Wike's madness. Wike's loyalty is always dependent on what he gains.... Time shall tell.

This is politics. If they didn't anticipate all these things, they have no business being there. They are truly politically lazy. There will always be opposition. They are only jittery because they haven't performed well and mishandled their primaries. They should sort out their issues and stop looking for who to blackmail.
